Can a DIYer help me out?

When I first ordered my PV, I got two bottles of juice and five cartridges. I really like the flavor.

Later I ordered five more bottles from two different companies (two from one vendor, three from another) and they all have "something" I don't like. I don't know how to explain it. Its almost a sensation more than a flavor. Its something other than the flavor I'm getting and I don't care for it at all...

The first bottles I ordered didn't have any description of the ingredients (side note: I HATE THAT about this industry. Seems very amateur). The second order, two of the bottles are marked "VG" and another has an ingredients label that lists Glycol and Glycerine.

I went out and bought a small bottle of Humco brand glycerin and mixed a bit with the juice I really like and get a bit of that same sensation, but I'm not sure if its just because I need to burn off what in my atomizer or if I just don't like glycerin.

All VG will be dramatically different from all PG - I think most people buy blends.

PG is thinner, less vapor, less sweet, lets flavor and TH through better, and may irritate some people's tongue/throat at 100%

VG is thicker, more vapor, more sweet and smoother so it cuts TH and cuts flavor somewhat

Popular blends are 70pg/30vg, 80pg/20vg, for for a smoother vape 60/40 and 50/50

Some people are very sensitive to PG and they usually vape all VG, though some are fine with 30%+ vg

Interesting...that "something" is mostly gone from one of the bottles now. The others are just as strong. I wonder if its caused by alcohol based flavors. Maybe the alcohol needs to evaporate. I'll let them sit for a while and try again in a week.

You could be on to something there. Apparently, some fresh made liquids may need to 'steep' even if there is no alcohol. Also, you might try dripping a few drops of pure VG to get a handle on how it tastes. To me, it isn't flavorless, but there's nothing there that tastes bad either.

What was mentioned above was mostly true. However, You cant discuss this "sensation" alone without having in mind nicotine levels of both the old cartridges and each of your new juices. Nicotine is what makes the "sensation" (assuming that you are speaking about throat hit but i'm not entirely sure you were) A better description of the sensation might help (more viscous vapor?, throat burning/itchy sensation? etc.

100%PG with 24mg Nic will have a harder hit that 100%VG with 24mg Nic for sure if we follow the usual tests/beliefs. Still, it doesnt mean that VG has no throat hit... It is less but still there.

Not throat hit. These were mostly 0 nic juices from 2 different vendors. 0 nic menthol, 0 nic vanilla, 0 nic caramel and 0 nic "big chill". The "big chill" and vanilla are labeled VG. I decided to actually read what was on the site where I ordered Caramel and Menthol (great idea this reading!) and found its labeled on the site "pg". I was trying not to post links, but I think its for the best: No Nicotine Menthol 10ml. I also ordered a 8mg nic RY4 and it had the same "sensation". I think what I'm trying to describe...others have been calling "perfumy". I can't call it an odor - but its something strong that hits my sinuses. Open a bottle of rubbing alcohol and take a wiff. Ignore the scent...I'm talking that feeling it gives your head. Its similar to that.

When I got this order, I also received new 3 new atomizers. I first tried the RY4 in my old (dirty) atty and while I was enjoying it, I felt it was strange. I want to call it too sweet, but its not a flavor or a scent. Its kinda frustrating to not be able to describe it.

Then I dripped a bit of caramel and it was worse. Then vanilla and it was just as bad. Same with the menthol.

I switched to a different atomizer (brand new) and had the same sensation. I dripped my old juice and it lessened that...that...whatever feeling.

I tried the RY4 again the next day and "it" was nearly gone. I didn't leave it uncapped or anything. It was just sitting in my ever expanding juice drawer. I hadn't really tried the others again...I've been too busy going through this RY4 (and the Lemon and Pineapple and Orange I ordered) :). The RY4 has gotten better and better. Such a shame its half gone now :(

I just now tried the menthol again...and its lessened (but its in a "dirty atomizer" and now I have an awesome menthol RY4!). I didn't leave the bottle open or anything (struggling to get the dripper part off this one).

I have the Caramel sitting with the cap off (can't get the dripper part off of it) and the vanilla sitting naked. I'll try them next week some time.

Kinda sucks to get a new juice and have to let it sit. I bet vendors will start up-selling "aged" juices. Vintage October 2010.

Short answer, no.

What's the best vehicle? Depends on the individual situation.

How much do you want to worry about your PG/VG ratio? Is that your major concern? Do you need VG at all?

Use any simple calculator and it will have lines for nic liquid of X strength, flavor(s), and non-nic volumes. I don't complicate it any further.

I have some bottles labeled 80/20, 70/30, and 50/50. In those bottles is no-nic premixed in PG/VG ratios as marked. When I want a bit of VG I use the 80/20 as my no-nic base. More VG is the 70/30 and lots of VG is when I grab the 50/50. What the final ratio is, I don't care.

VG gives me some more vapor and helps to give a bit of body to some flavorings. The final ratio is just not that important to me. I fret about the flavoring percentage. I double and triple check my nic strength. PG/VG final ratio is not that big a deal and I'd rather try new mixes instead of giving that another thought.

I'm sure some are very exacting with their final ratios. There are many who only use PG or only use VG. I'm different. If you need only PG or only VG, that is one thing, but I don't understand why the final PG/VG ratio is that big of a deal.

Close enough will get me juice and time to try out another mix.

(The real point of DIY is to have fun. So, have fun already.)

OP, since you're having some luck with steeping them, you may want to try a simple way to speed that up.

Run some hot tap water into a bowl. Throw your bottles, with the caps on, in the bowl. Let them sit for a bit then take them out and shake them.
Sit them off until they get to room temp again. Since there is no nic, cap off is fine, if you like.

I've already started vaping them. The menthol is @#$%^ awesome. Its not a menthol/tobacco mix. Its straight up dip your body in a jar of vap-o-rub. No throat hit...a head hit.

I might try it with the caramel and vanilla. Not too keen on them. The headache inducing "it" is gone now, they just don't taste like caramel or vanilla. The RY4 is all but gone. I was using to let some friends try my eGo. (doubt I have to tell anyone how that went). I now have another bottle stashed away.

I'm not sure where RY4 came from, but they need to make an RY4 candy bar. On second thought...no. They should ban it. Nothing should taste that good.

Bottom line to this thread: whatever I was sensing was not due to VG or PG. I just have to be prepared to let the juices sit for at least a few days before I bother with them. That truly sucks. More reason to DIY I guess.
