Paul, I took some pics for you, this is how much my pos pad sticks up

20150719_211927_zpsmgazc134.jpg

and this is how much the screw can be raised to touch the upper chamber. in this shot it's just touching and shows shorted

20150719_212550_zpsbzcozdz3.jpg

and this is 1/4 turn in and doesn't touch at this point

20150719_212714_zps9ezo2vvm.jpg

here it is with a 30ga coil tightened down

20150719_214632_zps8mqbsokz.jpg

I've done 28 too and one time I thought the coil was too high, but looking at this now I don't think it was actually the coil too high, I think it was because I wrapped the 28ga around the screw so it didn't tighten down low enough, as long as I don't wrap the wire all the way around the screw then 28ga works

also, I vape all VG, I played around with wicking in this thing and to get a good feed I wind up having a very loosely packed wick, so much so that it was sporadic, so I winded up drilling out my 2 feed holes... original holes were a loose fitting #52 bit, I went up one size to a #51 bit and it's better but I'm still finding that I want a little more feed, still doing primer puffs from time to time so I might drill it out to a #50...

Many thanks turbo for the info,

Your screw doesn't appear any different to mine but wondering if perhaps my posi pin that the screw threads into is marginally high.

Since filing my screw I have had no shorting issues. I was disappointed that I probably can't use 26g but actually don't feel the need now to drop down from 28g.

I was also expecting to have to open up juice feed holes but on 50/50 juice I am not having any wicking problems.

With all my other little OCD "issues" she'll understand but won't care. lol. Usually when she says "is that new?" I respond with "that? Nah I've had that forever" but she's onto that and calls bs now.
Usually I put the new stuff in a drawer for a week or so - then when I pull it out and she asks, I can believably say: what - this old thing?

Best Regards,
F2V

To be honest, the only thing I would probably give up is the metal tank

I've been running the steel tank exclusively and am loving it. It looks so sexy hybridized with the WAE2.

It is very easy to tell when it is time to refill.

I cannot comment about the GEM as I have never held one (until FedEx arrives tomorrow :) ) but I have other MB products with the same finish that I used hard but carefully. I have never had a single finish issue other than my oldest Chalice from 08/2012 used daily has become smoother .... still looks great with no scratches but its smoothed out considerably from daily use for nearly 3 years. As it becomes smoother it makes the grey color seem lighter in color IMO

Would love to see pics of the finish issue you spoke of.

Finally, my GEM is properly paired. 18500 WE2! :hubba:
Ooo, WE2 M were serialized...I'm so jelly, I'd kill for an 18500 Wizard anything [emoji14]

Disregarding that last statement, we should meet for coffee in a dark alley sometime ;)

I got the SS one thinking I will mod it to a side by side type thing like this :)
never wanted to hack up a Ti one to do it :)

No need to hack at all. Just need to drill two holes in an ellipsoidal-esque piece of steel, run the electrical for the center pin, and then add a cover.

yeah, the real problem is the threading. I've done this before on a semovar but there I was able to buy spare tubes and cut the end off for the female threading and used a hybrid adapter for the male threading, but here I can't find anything with the threading to match these.

I'm considering cutting and welding the mod itself. either that or try to get a tap and a die for whatever size threading is on the we2, not sure if it's worth getting the tap and die to do just this. also by welding to the body it'll be a bit more compact than the first one I did :) I want to make this one as tiny as possible

these are both 18650

don't know that it would be much more compact, and this is more than twice the battery life as an 18500.

doing this you wind up with a very short mod. if you look at the first pic a few posts back you can see that side by side the 18650 tube is at the height of the top of the gem tank. this means a dna40 18650 mod that's only a little longer than an 18650 with a drip tip. very short and pocket friendly, almost a whole atty shorter than even an 18650 mech.

Ok, so you're trying to build your own version of the xvostick? If it were me, I'd probably just sell the wizard to cover the cost of the xvostick. I realize though that takes the fun out of modding it yourself. ;)

Btw, is the Wizard Evolved any more difficult to upgrade to a DNA40 than the WAE? Seems to me like it entails about the same issues.
