I like Heron a lot (as compared to other atoms I have). I like the way it vapes with cotton, but I really like the taste with silica, which I somehow did at first instance when I received Heron.

Can someone point me to pictures (or pictorial setup would be the best) how to setup Heron with silica and ribbon kantal which comes with Heron?

Thanks

Any Spheroid tutorial build with Kanthal or nichrome wire from the tips and tricks thread here, can be applied with ribbon Kanthal wire, the latter is easier due to the flat surface of the wire. However I noticed that Qorax's pictorials have lost their images, you have to click to see them.

Idaho and Qorax, please send me the missing photos in the correct order for your pictorials below and I'll upload them to my paid account in the postimg.org web hosting service I use (maybe it is better to upload all the photos there), to fill in the blanks :)

Perseas,

Thanks for info. Is my understanding correct that in case of silica or similar setup the reducer cap (with hole for the wick) should not be installed at all?

There isn't really a need for it no. You could use it if you want to the choice is yours. But as mentioned just use a tutorial for doing double loops in the spheroid and that's basically the exact same build for the Heron without the topper.

Chad is correct it is not needed but,
One benefit of using it is the wick hole on the cap aligns the wick to the fluff whether you are using a single or dual silica based wick.

Edit - I forgot a very important feature of the cap, it also reduces the chamber size for flavor enhancement.

It is quite optional as it is already answered, it depends on the build. We designed it having in mind the cotton builds.

Well... I've been using a fluff-less / cotton & micro coil build on my Heron for about a week now. It has been flawless. No leaking, flooding or dry hits and the tank capacity is massive.

Thanks to Chad for pioneering this setup! :thumb:

I'd really like to get a glass tank section, but I am not a fan of IBtanked's 1mm walled stock due to its fragility. I am in negotiations with another supplier to stock glass specifically made for the Heron that will be more durable. Keep your eyes and ears peeled! :)

Thanks. Once you get the wick density right it's a great build. My Heron just sat with half a tank of juice in it and no fluff for five days. When I picked it up last night for a vape the wick was exactly as I left it, there wasn't a single hint of it flooding during the week.

As for the glass being thicker , you'd have no choice but to do 1mm around the orings but I guess you could cut the walls thicker just like the SS tank , assuming that's even possible.

I don't want to make it thicker, the glass I'm looking at still has 1mm walls, but for whatever reason is more durable. Speaking from experience. It will still be fragile as all glass is, but the Ibtanked stock is quartz, this will be pyrex. We are just in preliminary talks at this point, testing will need to be done and I could be wrong in the end but I have high hopes...

Ive always wanted to try this method, but I'm also afraid that I'm gonna pull the tank off like i normally do, and dump the juice everywhere lol

It really does take some care to not do this by accident. But getting in the habit of turning it upside down to pull the tank off didn't seem to be much of an issue for me...

I was getting less than stellar performance yesterday. It seemed like my battery was dead even after putting a fresh one in. I figured some liquid had gotten below the deck, so I pulled it apart to inspect and there was only a drop or two... nothing to worry about, but I cleaned it all out anyway. Turned out one of the coil screws was loose. Tightened her up and all was well again in the land of the Heron. :)

That happened to me the other day with my Origen. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong, turned out the top post nut that holds the wires tight was lose. It was a face palm moment for sure after a good 10 minutes of trying to figure it out.
The same for me. Could not figure it out till I read your post. My wick ( too much of it) setup seemed to be the problem. My cotton build works best for me. Kind of like the fluff setup. Real nice consistent favor and draw. Don't think I will ever leave the fluff setup.
