Ok, got up this morning and made a cup of coffee to enjoy with my morning vape. Grabbed the Lux, unlocked the ring, fired the button....nothing. Tried again....nothing. Scratched my head, unscrewed the atty, screwed back on and still nothing. I know it was a newly charged battery because I put it in a couple hours before I went to bed last night, but proceeded to check anyways. Unscrewed the bottom firing button and noticed some black looking ink substance on the bottom of the battery and on the center nut of the firing pin. I wiped it with a moist paper towel and it came right off.

Worried that I messed something up and possibly melted my battery or even worse...the Lux, I checked the battery with my multimeter and it is right around 4v. Put the same battery back in and now it fires away. Chained vape for a bit and the battery seems normal, not hot, no venting, or any negative signs of a bad battery. I will check again later to see if I get that black substance again, but in the meantime, I was hoping someone could chime in on this for me.

Is it possible that the gold plating was melting off from the bottom firing pin?

I dunno about the gold melting off since gold melts at like 1900F+
I would be wary of the battery myself

Yeah...that's what I figured too, but I'm just baffled because I have four AW Imr batteries in rotation (3 18490's and 1 18650) and have never seen this in my other mods.

Logically, you are correct. Since it is only on the bottom of the battery and the connection that makes contact with the bottom of the battery, it can only be 1 or the other. Since we know that the gold plating would take way more heat to melt than what the mod could produce, it must be the battery. I'll do some research and see what I can turn up.

I'd remove the Atty... then remove the top-cap of the mod... unscrew the 510 contact part of the POS a bit... reconnect the atty to the top-cap... screw-in the 510 contact till it connects to the Atty (NOT tightening it, but slightly screwing it till it stops). And things should be hunky dory once again.

Ps.: While at it - I'd also clean up the contacts a bit. Just a li'l rub with a kitchen towel.

Thanks for the advice qorax. That is exactly what I did and trust me...I'm baby-ing this thing so nothing is being overtightened (scared of scratches and stripping), but I'm that way with all my mods. My concern was the black gunk on the bottom of the battery.

@pokerplayer - I agree with you about disgarding bad batteries and I'm not one to be worried about getting a $12 battery, but I'm just perplexed because the battery looks "perfectly" fine. The bottom where the battery had the black inky substance looks normal after I wiped away the black ink. It is normal in silver color and doesn't have any signs of scorching or anything like that. I also thought that it might have been the black delrin on the bottom button, but it is also normal looking. It's just weird.

My bad, I didn't read ur complete post. Just the first few lines... and responded with that Centre Post suggestion - b'coz many had gone thru similar situations earlier - and thus, I just took ur post with premonitions. As regards that 'black gunk' - our standard AWs / Efests / Pannys usually won't cause that. May I know which battery r u using?

I'm with you on this, regardless of my "unexplainable" issue of the "black goo." I might have to call Ghostbusters for this one.

The rest of the battery was dry? If nothing on the mod or the battery is amiss, that has to be juice. Or Psychomagnotheric Slime. You crossed the streams again, didn't you?

@Kataphraktos - Yes, everything was dry except for the bottom of the of the battery and the center of the bottom button in between the hex nut. I'm hoping it is juice but I'm not sure how the juice got down there with everything else being dry? Unless I had juice on my fingers when I put in the battery in and screwed in the bottom button. Hmmmmm....

Anyways...it's been fine for the past couple hours, so I'm not gonna fret and just enjoy this beautiful device....unless it happens again.

I'm with Kat, I believe and suggest that the next phone call you should make is to a Priest at this point.
someone just had this issue and for the life of me I can not remember the cause but, we do know that it is not your GP.
But this is a perfect example for the new comers to get familiar with a portable multi meter to check your batteries as this would be the first item to check if you were alone and and had not access to ask friends on the internet. Batteries are not to be questioned and it is not appropriate or safe to guess if you have a healthy battery.
Also for our new friends - Please clean your PV's upon arrival and on a schedule(you will be surprised of the build up on threads and contacts after use) and PLEASE check your battery charge often when taking them off the chargers!
Be Safe

My Lovely LUX - had a Shower!

Well, it is 2.5 months now since I received my Lux... and it was put into some use indeed. Thus, today morning I thought why not give this beauty a shower... it was about time, wasn't it?

No Polish used, just deep cleaned with common stuff from the kitchen...

Washed and scrubbed it with Dish Detergent and Scotch Brite. Then kept it dipped it in a warm solution of Salt & Vinegar for 10-15 minutes...

Made a paste of equal parts of Salt & Wheat Flour with some Vinegar...

Rubbed the Lux with that paste, all the time rotating it in its horizontal plane, for about 10-15 minutes...

Washed it under running water, dabbed it with paper towel and...

Rubbed it enough with some Mothers Microfiber Cloth...

It came out with a nice 'brushed' look...

I'm avoiding using compound polish for as long as I can b'coz I feel it's sheen stays longer without its use. And once touched with polish - it'd need it's frequent use - else it'd look drab IMHO.

I'm quite satisfied with the results... what do you guys feel?

just wondering, what does it smell like now? i once used ketchup to clean some of my brass pv's a while back, they ended up smelling like a sammich for about a week

Raymond Post!

Bout time! Great vid/review.
You are correct. Having high end atomizers, my Spheroids are my go to and hands down favorite. I found with the others, I cycle in and out. But, the Spheroid is always in my rotation and used daily in my vape world.
You could not be more correct about the flavor and the vapor production is fantastic. They are a snap to set up with many successful coil/wick variations available. They are also easy to rinse(wick and sera wool), dry burn and refill when needed. The maintenance is 1/2 of what a genesis style atomizer is and the price is incredible.
I liked that you included the design as it is portable, artful and tough as nails with nothing to break when you wake up and find yourself face down on the sidewalk in front of your home with an empty bottle of Ouzo next to you...:)

Again, Great Video.
