Hi friends,
I posted this yesterday over on the Heron tips thread, but didn't get any feedback, so I thought I'd put it up here where there is more action and see if anyone has any helpful advice for me. I should add that the Heron was shipped to me the beginning of April, so I wouldn't think I'm experiencing the old Heron bell issues.
I could use some advice for my newish Heron. (I've been traveling and decided to leave it home where it'd be safe and sound, so haven't used it a great deal since its arrival.)
I've got a simple loop wick with silica, 30g Kanthal, 5 wraps, around 1.7 ohms.
It's running hot and spitting: I don't feel the spit when I vape, but my tongue does afterwards. I lowered the coil a bit to see if that helps, but it really didn't. Using my Sophia instead right now.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Have you tried disassembling the Gpin to see if there is any liquid build up under the deck? Is there excessive liquid build up on the deck, under and around the coil? You can tell if the bell has been updated or not by looking through the hole with a light source on the other side. The bore should be straight through and not step down to a smaller diameter...
You have 'over-wicking' issues my friend. Increase the fluff density a bit and you should be good. Meanwhile, check what 9Ball suggested, clear up the deck & below, use a syringe to suck back some of the juice from your fluff ~ and you should notice the difference.
You have over wicking issues due to improper density of the filler or you have an old bell. Check please the interior, in the rare case we gave you a Heron with the previous bell. The Heron thread was off topic for 3 pages and I missed your post, sorry.

Running hot should be addressed first imo. The reason I ask is because 1.7 in a Heron should be very pleasant and not too warm. How is the coil heating up? From the inside out, as it should? And, do you have a hot spot or hot leg? Does the juice taste normal or burnt?

Agreed, I obviously enjoy brief spurts of randomness but, we all owe King P a Thank You. As I have mentioned some builders and suppliers don't want anything but their products discussed.

This made me laugh as my arms are killing me....had my little granddaughter this weekend who wanted to see saw at the park..well she might weigh 25 lbs and lets say grandma weighs a little more...so like getting water from a well, I pumped and pumped and pumped..I'm really out of shape
I have spent 3 long weekends laying a patio out for us, getting an 8x12 raised bed garden ready from scratch, and getting the better part of 12 barrels, pots, and buckets ready. Gonna be growin our own produce.
Add to that painting trim and eaves, typical spring time clean out, and other non sense, and I'm whooped. I have braces on my wrists as I think I've strained them offering up carpal tunnel symptoms. I've never had them so I'm assuming strained. Sigh.

So Yankee when you're done at home want to come work at my house. You probably have strained your wrists and using the braces especially in the evening should help

Yeah we do. I've frequented a couple of other threads in my reincarnations in ECF. They got more than a little regimented, bureaucratic and over zealous.
