Independence, which I have been told is a really bad place now. We left in a covered wagon many years ago and I've never had the opportunity to go back.

yeah independence has gotten bad in some parts, but not all! just like anywhere else. I live about 10 miles from there.
in a covered wagon LOL

Hmmm...how's the JW Blue Label?
Inside that Stanley flask in my pic is some 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon that I thought I'd try. It was pretty damned good actually!
I'm still new to Bourbon but have really been enjoying it and am always open to some good recommendations.
In fact I still need to thank faitaccompli for the Bowman Brothers recommend. Really good stuff man, thanks!! It's awesome that it's brewed right here in Fredericksburg. Already thinking about going on a tour of the distillery :)

*ETA: Ok, now I feel like an idiot, JW is Scotch...

Hey, tell me why you like your Spheroids better than your Herons.
The Spheroid is very tempting to me, though I still haven't mastered the Heron.
Hey, sorry I never got back to you on this.
For one thing, the size and weight of the Spheroid. The Heron's kinda heavy but it does really shine on the Ti X since the weight balances out better for me.

The draw is another big part. Funny thing is I used to love a real airy draw but to me the Sphero has the closest pull to an actual analog. It's damned near perfect... not too tight and not too airy. Even closing off the air slot on the Heron the inhale just isn't the same. I almost use the Herons akin to sitting home with a fine cigar. Something where I'm not worried so much about the draw but the flavor and everything else.
For day to day life I love my Spheroids to death.

Lastly is it's just so much easier to deal with the coil and wick on Spheroid. I haven't tried the Heron without the cotton topper but it's a pain to get to the wick and coil without having to break down the whole base. It's still miles above my experience with the KFL+. Friggin KFL had to be totally dismantled every other freaking tank for me...

ETA: Just got my v1 Spheroid in the mail and was not expecting a wire inside :(
Is there any way to upgrade the base to a v2 type connection? It looks like the v2 510 pin would fit.

It's ok, there is a lot to learn whiskey vs bourbon, single malt scotch vs blended scotch...
It depends what mood I'm in...

I borrowed (no, I stole) my girl's wooden cuticle tool. It has a sharp point on one side and a flattish other end. The flattish other end worked well for me, without nicking or scratching the metal.

hmm... is there an easy way to get the delrin insulator out of the X switch base?

Mines in there pretty tight. I tried, briefly, to nudge it out with a precision flathead but got a few nicks as a reward...

Thanks JR, that was very helpful. And I completely agree about the KFL+.

Never had an interest in 14500 sized mods but the Piccolo is really starting to pique my interest.
Wouldn't mind seeing what the VW Picc looks like but think I'm gonna hold out for the new version when it comes.
I think I'm gonna take a break from buying second hand GP gear for awhile and stick with the new stuff :)
