Well again, everyone is different.

And yes, there have been many people who used vaping to get off cigarettes and then later gave up vaping. Some still stay on the forum, most don't stick around, which makes sense.... so you're not going to get a whole lot of feedback from people who have quit vaping. They have probably moved on.

Some people want to vape forever and it works for them. Others, not so much. That is why everyone must evaluate for themselves, what they vape, how they vape, how much they vape, etc. There is even a SNUS topic area on here, so not everyone chooses vaping for their harm reduction.

YOu might want to check the "what's under your nose" in a search whick will take you to the SNUS forum. That may be an option for you.

Surely there are some people who quit vaping for awhile and then came back . I'll keep this thread active a little while to get some more input.
I simply want to quit all negative habits . Even without my issues I wanted to quit . I didn't want to be dependent on nicotine anymore as it was taking over my life so this is another major reason I'm quitting

I am really glad you are posting your experiences here on the difficulties you were experiencing prior to quitting vaping and how things are going for you now afterwards and I hope you will continue to do so as I think most who stop vaping probably just stop posting here too. My ultimate goal when I started vaping and quit smoking (same day) was to also quit vaping too but now it is 4 years later, I really just traded one habit for another.

My son has a friend who was also a sub ohm vaper going through 10-15/ml/day that had a similar experience to yours with the difficulty breathing, sleeplessness and extreme dryness, I am not sure if he actually saw his doctor like I highly recommended him to but he did tell me a few months later that he had stopped vaping, his breathing felt back to normal as well as his sleeping but he still had the dry mouth issues, I think I will ask my son today to see if that was ever resolved as it has been 5-6 months now since then.

I'm glad to keep everyone posted on how my quiting process is going for reference.

Also would be greatly appreciated if you find out . I know the sleeplessness is from sudden lack of nicotine in the body. It really messes with me and I wake up with my mind racing and body nervous as hell

I'm glad to keep everyone posted on how my quiting process is going for reference.

When I started vaping to quit smoking my plan was alway to quit vaping, too. I am at a little over 3 years now. I started at 18mg and 24mg, went to 12mg in 2nd year. Last year I went to 9mg then 6mg. This year i moved into 3mg and 0mg. I also went back to "tootle puffing" so I would get used to less inhalation, etc. as well.

I agree that for some the nicotine thing often takes a lot longer to adjust to than we think. I mean, I was not having CRAVINGS or anything as I was dropping down. No, instead it is smaller more subtle things, like my body was used to nicotine for some many decades and while I wasn't having any cravings when I dropped, there were other things.....very subtle things in mood, sleep, etc.

I guess I'm like you.....I just want to simplify my life as much as possible and not having any habits I have to feed. There have been a few times I just do NOT have the time to fiddle with vape gear....and have had to leave the house quickly or had an emergency .....I just hate the idea of having to be *wed* to my vape stuff the same way I was *wed* to my cig pack (always making sure I had lighter and cigs on me).

It's just a freedom thing for me.

So yes! Let us know how your journey goes!

Hello all , just joined but not because I started vaping but because I am 6 days free of it . I was vaping for about 2 and a half years and I'm 25 years old.

I used to vape about 9-10 ml a day and it was taking over my life and costing me as much as cigarettes . I would stay around 3-6MG . I would be dehydrated no matter what I drank and my nights the past 2 months have been troublesome due to waking up from dry mouth. Eyes are always dry and tired from lack of sleep. These problems pretty much began from sub ohming. I never used to vape this much until I bought my first sub ohm set up.

The last 5 months or so I have been having breathing difficulties , not being able to catch my breath and I attribute this to vaping so much. I would wake up with the breathing problem being small and as I vaped throughout the day it would aggravate and I'd have trouble catching my breath. I thought it was pg or vg but I tried low nic and different types of vg pg concentrations . I figured it was just the amount of vape that was going in me (8-10ml). This is the main reason I had to quit.

I am now 6 days free of vape and my breathing issue is virtually non existent. The issues I am dealing with are still dehydration and insomnia. Withdrawal symptoms were and still are crazy . Everything I do I can relate to vaping so it's hard . I know that will subside .
My main concern now is the dehydration , I'm getting paranoid that I permanently altered by body and that I'll be dehydrated like this forever .. still as thirsty as while vaping.

Now before you say it could be some other issues . .. about a month ago I was lung x rayed and tested and I have no lung issues . I told them about my breathing issues and they said give vaping a break. Blood tests are good to go .

So my question is has anyone here quit? How hard was it and are you still dehydrated ?

Thanks
anything in excess is not good. I was a heavy smoker for 45 years and did give sub-ohming a try but did not like it. in the 7 month i've been tobacco free I have seen dramatic improvement in my health. if you still have symptoms after 2 or 3 weeks you should consider seeing a doctor. it may be something else besides vaping thats causing it

I haven't been on this forum long enough to speak to how many people report quitting vaping here, but over on reddit, the the ecr sub page, there is usually 2 or 3 people a day posting basically saying "thanks for helping me quit smoking, but I don't need vape anymore, I'm done." Almost all the replies are along the lines of "congratulations, glad you made it." So yes, you can quit, lots of people do it, and if that's what you feel is best for your health, I wish you well and hope the best for you.
The dehydration should go away. Make sure you are getting plenty of salts along with your water too. Those get washed out with the water.

Actually slept better check it out
woke up with a mouth dry as a desert . Apparently I woke up twice but don't remember it . Hope it only gets better .

Was out last night at bar with a smoker . Had urges but didn't cave in .. it was tearing me up inside all evening though. Morning cravings aren't as powerful today

Does Vaping dehydrate the body or just the mouth , because my urine is always clear lol
makes your mouth dry, therefore you feel thirsty... vaping dehydrates a person about as bad as 7 pretzels....
in best conditions, VG will absorb about 40% of its volume in water ( this is the "best case" senerio most effective situation) so if you vaped 10 ml in a day, you would loose 4 ml of moisture/water due to the VG ( PG absorbs even less than VG)
4 ml is about a teaspoon of fluid.....

I found when I vaped commercial juices I was literally parched all the time, I couldn't even spit cotton. IMO its the added sweeteners cause some of those juices were mighty sweet and react badly with me. Not so bad with some tobaccos but still it would dehydrate me and I would drink gallons of water a day. Now that I DIY my own juices (mostly Hangsen tobaccos) and don't add any sweetener I'm not as dehydrated but still have to drink water but now where near as much. I'm not much for the super sweet vapes to begin with so all my mixes are plenty sweet to me.
I had bouts of insomnia back in my early vaping days from higher nic juices too late in the evening and mint flavored (not menthol) juices. Now I'm careful to what I'm vaping, depending on what part of the day it is. With DIY its easy to regulate your nic intake and haven't had any sleeping problems since. My days of high nic juices are long gone cause of a good delivery system with 9 and some 12 nic homemade juices.

I'll take this First post from a Former Vaper with a grain of salt.

Most notable is the assertion a Dry Mouth is dehydration. It is not. it is simply a Dry mouth. Dehydration is a loss of fluid body mass.

We have several member that have fully quit and still check in from time to time.
None so far have posted such complications as a reason they achieved their goals.

While I am glad cold turkey is working for you, I think less Vape abuse would have had the same results. Lack of personal control over a habit always comes with risk.

Over Vaping
Over eating
Drinking to much
whatever

I developed dry mouth and eyes at about your age. Its called Sicca syndrome. That was 20 years ago so I wasn't vaping then. We don't have an answer really for why I have it, but its some underlying health condition, possibly autoimmune.

I do think you should talk to your doctor about it. You may not ever have a diagnosis, but s/he should be aware of it. If not vaping doesn't cure it, its possibly not from vaping. Just wanted to chime in.

I use Thera Tears during the day, and right before bed put in Refresh Tears. The Refresh Tears are very thick and help me get through the night. For the dry mouth I've found artificial saliva actually makes me drool, and I hate that worse. Hard to go from overly dry mouth to drooling  I just continually drink water to help it. Especially while your eating, its important to keep sipping water so you don't choke trying to swallow. I also drink a large glass of water before going to bed.

So my question is has anyone here quit?

Welcome and congrats on quitting vaping! While we're mostly all here for discussing vaping and getting away from tobacco, not all intend to be lifetime vapers and I've seen many members give it up over the years.

You might be interested in this sub-forum. It's not very active, but you might find some useful info if you browse around in there: Zero Nicotine Vaping and Quitting Vaping | E-Cigarette Forum

@Formervaper, just wanted to pop in real quick with some personal experiences of myself and some of my friends. Out of the 3 people I know that have quit vaping, they all did it for different reasons. My brother, who I got started on vaping to quit smoking, quit because he didn't need it anymore. He'll hit it every couple weeks if he feels like it, but that's it. My coworkers both quit recently (2 months or so ago). One just wanted to stop using nicotine and one just started using snus because it's easier. The one who switched to snus used an 18650 box mod and a dripper exclusively. He disliked making coils and wicking, but didn't want to switch to tootle puffing or even using tanks.
