I would walk. Seriously. Not only would you get their quicker...think of the awesome exercise.

You're right, it would take less time walking. I often think about taking my bike, but that is dangerous and I'd be competing with the motorcyclists zig-zagging between the cars. Only problem about walking is that 9 months of the year is the rainy season and it's usually over 80˚ and very humid - your strongest deodorant wouldn't last the first half mile! I'd have to take two changed of clothes; i.e., a raincoat if it rains, and dry, clean clothes to change into when I get there, plus my computer and it's accessories. Granted it'd be a good workout, but impractical for me.

You have to realize that suggestion came from someone not living in the tropics.. ;)

Hmm...motorcycle. I'd go with that.

You could not pry me away!!

My wife was in labour for 18 hours. She came down hard with a fever about 5 hours in and Chloe's heart rate started getting erratic. We went with the epidural at that point, and had to get her in an ice bath to lower her temperature before things finally slowly stabilized. We were touch and go for a while..

Watching those spikes on the monitor that keep track of contractions was the scariest thing I've experienced.

Hats off to her team, because we got there when her doctor was finishing her shift and she stayed back with us from 5:30 in the morning till 11:30 at night.

That was also my wife's 30th birthday!! Chloe and she share the same birthday..

It was a horrendous experience that I would never want to repeat, but at that time, I would never have left her side..no way, no how!!

DH never left my side... I am among the fortunate; 4 and 5 hour labors.

The heat and humidity in the Carolina's during the summer will compete with any tropics. I've had people from AZ and FL here and they thought they were gonna die. George Washington lured the Redcoats to the Carolinas to fight in the summer because he knew his boys could stand up to it better than the pansy Brits. :)

I've done my share of Motorcycle in Bombay. It's not always the lesser of the two evils. Nobody watches for you and you have a choice of watching traffic about to take you out, or watch the road. You cannot, just cannot do both together. You're generally riding by "feel" most of the time..

We get the crazy heat and humidity here too, but not the smog and pollution that I experienced growing up in Bombay. Bangkok is no different. It's BRUTAL..

You need a shower about 10 minutes after you leave your home..

I was in Los Angeles and it is lawful for sickles to ride between the cars (at least it was then). Of course, the traffic never moves on the LA Freeway system so these sickles would be tooling 60MPH between the stopped traffic. I'm like, you gotta be crazy!!!

The father of our kids would not be in the room with me.
Good for you for being there for your wife and daughter. That is something I would have loved to have......support.

I was in the room with Sue when her time came and I believe it helped her. She had induced labor because of her history of hypertension and it was over 10 hours. Got to cut the cord and all, I only cut an inch off what was left, but it was still significant and a special moment for me. After she got back to her room, my older brother arrived and I took him to see the baby. On the way over to the nursery, the come down from all that excitement finally hit me and I felt lightheaded and had to stop for a minute to catch my breath!

Tiffanie was weeks premature, but you'd never know it looking at her now.

I know. Everything is in reverse here compared to when I lived in Chicago. In Chitown you go (and stay) indoors from Nov thru Feb. Here you go (and stay) indoors from June thru September.

I looked her profile up about a week ago. I saw she had just posted on the NT thread after being gone for a long time. Scarf was heavy on this thread for a long while then kind off fell off. Cripes, I haven't been on that NT thread in months. And I was there fairly early on that one.

Good for you! There are days I wish it would go back to the old-days when dads and family sat in the waiting room.

April, my dad was a farmer all his life. When my mom went into labor with me, my dad dropped her off at the front door of the hospital and went back to the field and worked. He came back that night after I was born.

These days, I think most wives would sue for divorce if their husband did that.

Hell, when we were born, Dads NEVER went in the delivery rooms. They weren't allowed. I'd rather plow a field than sit in a waiting room. No?

Man, it got so bad so quick today. Just unbelievable...and it wasn't supposed to happen to us. There are people stranded all over the place. I bet there are fatalities tonight due to the single digit temps and people being out in it. I got a lonnnnnnnng way to go. No way I'll be able to sleep here. I thought about working just to pass the time. I don't think I ever remember children being stuck at school. I am so thankful for my loving family!!! My son is lucky to have them. They had to go around barricaded roads to get to him.

My mother in law shared her story, about how you were assigned a bed, and a nurse would come help clean the baby and mother once delivery was complete. In contrast Chloe was born in a room that had more gadgets and monitors than the original Starship Enterprise's deck..

Edit: There was no mention of my father-in-law. Maybe he went back to plowing a field too.. :)
