I'm gonna say one more thing about mass produced american beers , AB , Miller etc. The large american breweries were and still may be using something called fish finings to clarify their beer quickly , it's essentially mucous from fish and snails that is pumped in to the top of a tank of beer and as it settles to the bottom it collects microscopic particles and clears the beer which is then pumped off the top and filtered , In homebrewing I used something called Irish Moss which is a dried seaweed that takes days to clarify the brew but at least there is no animal by products in my brew , The major breweries produce millions of gallons of beer and they want to do it as quickly and cheaply as possible . Budweisser also uses rice in their beer which is a lot cheaper than malted barley so I give it the ultimate in crap award , if AB tried brewing it in germany they would have gone to jail because of the purity law in germany that was on the books there for hundreds of years , they have dropped that law in germany so they can mass produce crap like us but at least Beck's and some of the other german breweries still adhere to that law . Know what your drinking !

Well, mass produced beer does make it more affordable.

Yeah, I use the same principle to refill my Huntsman T2. I have a right ol' "sour dough" type thing going on in there. LOL
You're not far from the truth Hula , a very old bakery that makes french bread burned down and they had to move into a new building , they lost their yeast culture that they had going for 150 years and the breads never been the same , even the air in the old building had yeast spores that evolved over that length of time , absolutely irreplaceable and a dam shame , it was a loss for everyone in NOLA .

So does making you're own once you've got the equipment , kinda like vaping in a way after you catch up with startup costs , I should said if you catch up , after you get setup all you need to buy is malted barley , yeast , and hops , cost under 20 bucks to brew 5 & 1/2 gallons , vaping has too many toys for me to catch up with , brewing excellent beer is cheaper .

That may apply to the U.S but certainly not to the rest of the world. Well known fact that most U.S folk that appreciate good beer, come up to Canada to buy it. ;) :p

No offense meant, and hope this is taken in the same light as when I have to endure the Lion's ribbing. :D

They're pretty good, agreed. Two that I can remember right off hand are Labatt and Molson. Not saying those are the best, (#10 & #9 on top ten) just remember they were available in the US. Local brews are usually a darn sight better than national brands - drank quite a few Stroh at the end of high school up till I joined the Navy.

I love Molson. One of my all time faves. I get it every time I go to Canada.

I wouldn't put Labatt , Molson or Moosehead on par with Samuel Adams , but they're definitely better than Buttwiper IMO , I have no respect for AB knowing what I know , they're kind off the Big Tobacco of beers .

    What's going in army.
I pop in and out and by the time I read posts its a day or more behind so I never bother to reply. Works busy, all I do is OT so no time for much of anything lately. Me and my lady have almost killed 200ml of shadow since late December so I need to reup for sure.
For Valentine's, I picked up my girl a new MVP to replace her old one I tossed the other day, and a bunch of aero tanks. How's that for love ...
My uncles dogs got out the other day and were turned into the shelter. The shelter rather then follow the 3 day protocol of waiting KILLED his healthy dogs within 2 hours. Its even been on the news here and he's flipping out. Not cool at all. If this was me I'd honestly be in jail.
Well that's about it over here. Hope everyone is healthy and in good spirits. Enjoy your day folks.

OMG, that sucks big time! Thoughts and prayers going out to your uncle & all related. :( Otherwise, it's good to hear you & your lady are doing ok. :)

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of our proposal - it'll be 29 this year. :toast:

EDIT: MP, I didn't have a chance to follow up on the posts, just wondering if those dogs were tagged, or not?

While you folks are dealing with stuck cars and shoveling driveways, this is what my helper and I have for the day... 77℉, water service dig through oak tree roots. Sweating our butts off!

You all north of Florida, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!

roots must have started at the first elbow from the sidewalk??

I know that in England ale was the drink du jour literally through to probably the 1850's - because water had so many impurities that it could give you dysentery or cholera. I guess the fermentation ridded water of some of those bacteria. It was weaker because it was a replacement for water.

not the fermentation...it was the boiling :)

What is called "beer" in the USA, up till recently with the advent of ale and micro breweries is commonly known as "lager" in Europe - and that is considered a woman's drink over there. Bud, Coors et al have a rather poor reputation in GB. :)

ale and lager are the 2 different ways the beer is fermented... lager being a longer colder fermentation time ( up to several weeks)... ales within days and there are also different types of yeasty beasties too... top and bottom fermentation types

    Hell of a day.

Maybe my subconscious wanted to try to keep up with Robin. Or maybe misery just loves company.

Went into work with no issues around 2. Around 2:30, I started having a pretty intense pain in my upper abdomen. Now, this isn't my first time. I had a significant gall attack in December. But with the absence of stones, they couldn't exactly say why it happened. This pain was familiar.

I have an antispasmotic medication for if I get an attack. Never needed it. After 10 minutes of pain, I'm seriously considering leaving work to go take one and lie down. Good thing I didn't...

I told a coworker I was feeling a little light headed. He said "Yeah, you look kinda pale."

That's the last thing I remember.

I woke up with my boss anchoring my head and telling me not to move. The ambulance is on its way. Apparently I blacked out and SLAMMED the back of my head off the concrete floor. Opening a 6 inch gash. They say I was out cold 30-60 seconds. I do remember dreaming. The odd thing was, my stomach didn't hurt anymore. Go figure. So here comes the ambulance. Collar on, back brace, strapped in tight like a sardine in a can and off we go.

Spent the next 7 hours in the ER, first for tests on my head and spine, then for tests on my abdomen. Of course, they can't find an obvious cause. Good news is, my head and spine is ok (although a concussion is probably likely). They believe it was another gall attack and the pain triggered a response that caused me to pass out. More doctors and tests on Friday.

And all this with the storm of the year heading our way too - depending on who you listen to, anywhere from a foot, to 30 inches of snow, 30-40 mph winds (drifts sealing you into your house are always fun). And I'm not supposed to exert myself for no less than 48 hours. >.< At least I'm home and warm.

Did someone say beer? :) I'm mostly a Guinness man myself. Draught when I want something refreshing. Extra Stout when I want something heavier. And Foreign Extra Stout when I want to be kicked in the throat. On tap is always best, but in my podunk neck of the woods, good luck with that. I've had some good smaller brewery beers too. My favorite might be Founder's Double Chocolate Oatmeal Breakfast Stout.

Worst beer ever? It's no contest at all. Iron City. Seriously. If you're ever in the Pittsburgh area... don't. ;)

Although my son has been "cooking" things for a while...(he can make toaster oven pizza rolls and an awesome PB&J sandwich)...I have been stepping it up a notch with him because of Robin and Retic mentioning it. I mean sometimes it's easier to just do it myself. But he made his entire bacon, egg and cheese sandwich this weekend with my direction and he puffed all up with pride!! Tonight I made him help me. It offers us some one-on-one time together and it's been awesome. My son is an awesome cook! And he's learning from a good one I think. ;) And she learned from the BESTEST! My Mom cooks her hiney off...........and she learned it from HER Mom who was the best cook around until she had my Mom! And she even admitted it...that my Mom blows her out of the water. My son is really enjoying it.

    :)

Way to go RJ. It doesn't hurt to know these things.
