Both trees were alive, Maple and they are wet inside. I will need the spare sharp chains. The trunk is about a third larger than my bar. I had not thought of renting a large one, Oh Boy, I can see Mrs CMD's face when I drive down the hill and pull that baby out of the bed. I'll raise it over my head and holler, "Beer, Woman!"
Maple, wet...gonna kill you. Opt for something else.

Do you sharpen your chains? Lots of You Tube vids to show you how. It's really not that hard. I have about 7 chains and I rotate them. Doesn't take long to dull out. Depending on the tree specie I will generally sharpen the chain after every two tanks of gas. Beats the hell out of spending $20 on a new chain. Oh, and you need to file down the guides too (for cut depth). Again, easy to do and plenty of vids to watch.

Yep, get one of them testosterone-sized chainsaws. Mrs. CMD will be turned on and rip your clothes off right there in the driveway. It will remind you of when you were 25 year old bunnies getting to know each other.

I do sharpen my own, i have a guide and all that. I've done it several times and I am going be doing it a lot on these trees. It is so much easier with sharp chains. I've never filed the depth guides, may I would be wise to watch a video.
As to the rest, ahh, the memory! She was 25, I was 34, good memories. However, I fear that, as I yell, "Beer, Woman", she may look, laugh gloriously and then return to the house.

Yes, filing the guides is critical to maintain proper chip size. Too deep a cut and your saw bogs out. Too shallow and you just polish instead of cut. Simple little tool and a file.

The studies that are out now say that breast conservation surgery and mastectomy has the same outcome. Also, you can still develop cancer on the chest wall. The mastectomy was freaking me out, but you know how it is, they never really know till they get in there and send everything out. I’m still back and forth but I think it’s reasonable to start small. I’ll see how I feel next week. I asked the surgeon to tell me what to do and she said she can’t , it’s my body and I get to decide what happens to it. I really appreciate that, but at the same time I’d like someone to decide for me :)
For what it's worth, I think you're absolutely right. It sounds so drastic a measure if they really don't know what they're dealing with, and a removal of some tissue to figure THAT out sure beats the removal of all tissue in that case. Have you had an ultrasound yet? I will however, be so bold as to say to you and any woman, that if your breasts are changing colors to a purple, dark red, extremely painful, the texture looking like an orange skin, and/or you occasionally lost control of an arm to do what your brain is telling it to do, I'd say get into the ER, and refuse to move till you get a definitive answer. And if you don't get one, then go elsewhere till you DO get one..

I’m so thankful that your options are less drastic and for your surgeon’s optimism about the extent. Given the same outcomes it is reasonable to start small. With the melanoma on my leg the surgeon was describing how much tissue he needed to cut and that he’d do as little as possible while still being sure to get it all. I was so scared I just wanted it OUT OF ME. Cut more! In recovering I appreciated that it wasn’t more tissue damage to heal.

You will make the best possible choice for yourself. It’s just emotionally overwhelming and hard to have clarity. But clarity will come. :)

We saw a roadrunner on an adjacent roof yesterday morning. They make me giggle when they trot along and not just because of the cartoon. Then I read up on what they eat and I’m even happier that there are roadrunners ‘round here. :)

poor snakes.... ;)

On a less positive note, I am getting old and decrepit. My time with the chain saw was fun and invigorating. However, my body had to quit before my mind was ready. (I think I am much younger and far more handsome than I am.) But I got a lot of limbing done and some wood cut to fireplace size. I have more to do there.

Man, those were two big trees, getting those trunks cut is going to require some thought - time for that younger mind to take over. I am thinking that I make a slit cut down the center of about ten feet of trunk maybe 1/3 to 1/2 deep into the trunk. Those trunks are wider than my chain saw bar is long. THEN, I will pound a wedge into the slit cut and split the thing to a manageable size. As I continue to whittle down the upper branches and get them out of the way I'll keep thinking on this.
General, any thoughts?

high explosives!!!! and a long fuze :)

Nature is harsh! Balance is needed. ;)

yup balance... road runner eats snakes ... mice and rats overwhelm the apartment complex... ;)
mice and rats eats roadrunner eggs, no more road runners, rats and mice prevail, snakes eventually come back due to the excess rodents, so... in reality its not balance but a sine wave of rise and fall. :)

This dude shows two kinds of depth tools. I use the first one he describes. Works fine and is good for dummies like me.

Very helpful, I've just been winging it. I've got to get a depth gauge. Thanks, General.

PS It turns out that I have a depth tool, I have over looked it because I had no idea what it was. Today - sharpen and check depth.
