Well over 20,000 in my area are without power. Southeast Texas and Louisiana have been getting hammered too. Yesterday we had about 81 deg for a high, but today it will be in the mid 60's for a high. It looks like the south will have rough weather this weekend. Mother's Day should be clear here. My mom got her power back on about 3 hours before me. Her main concern was getting to watch tv, and now she can do that. I saw her yesterday, and she was very bored. She has a lot of windows in her house, so even without power it was light in her house. I have one large window in my living room, so it is very dim even with the blinds open. She did have her generator cooling her fridge though. The stuff in my fridge is going to have to be thrown out for the most part.

The dogs were very happy last night, because things settled back down to normal. My big dog was especially happy. She knew things weren't right over the past couple of days, and it upset her. She was panting very hard and it messed up her stomach. Once the lights came on, and I turned on the fan she cooled down. It was 73 in here, but she was still hot. Now it is so cool I turned the fan off. I like the cool weather, yesterday was very hot and humid. The mosquitoes were out in full force yesterday. With standing water that problem is going to get worse.

How long were you without power? We've been getting hit pretty hard by storms up here in fort worth but luckily we haven't lost power yet. I think they're calling for more tonight and overnight. Just ready for it to be done so we can mow and the ground dries up so my dog isn't a mudslick when he comes back inside.

TheProphet, I was without power for 28.5 hours. There are still a lot of people here who do not have power though. A lot of people had power on by 9a yesterday. But there are still well over 20k who do not have power still. We had terrible winds that knocked down trees all over here. That is what caused the outages. Poles down, lines down, transformers blew. We get Sunday clear, and maybe Monday. Then it starts raining again probably on Tuesday.

looks like that weather made it here.... woke up to thunder and pouring rain at 10am...
another wet one ...

I've been watering the lawn and flowers for the past two weeks. Our best shot at rain is a thunderstorm.

We had thunderstorms here yesterday, but I don’t know how much rain. Nothing even close to what the folks in Texas are enduring.

There’s been a tree service for the past few weeks working on the palm trees in our community. Man, those trees need a lot of TLC! They shaved the bark of the ones growing by our balcony and around the pool area.

Then yesterday the regular community maintenance crew was doing cleanup. The guy started before 7:30 am with the loudest gas-powered leaf blower I’ve ever heard! It went on and on.

By 1 pm I was ready to go Crazy Old Broad on him! Shake a frying pan in his direction yelling, “Get a rake! A shovel! Use your hands! Just make it stop!”

I’m glad I didn’t do that. I sure was tempted though. :)

I caught the “bake something new” bug. I decided to give myself a treat today to make up for the noise ordeal yesterday. And I needed to make up for all those calories I burned exercising self-control. ;)

These ain’t pretty, but they are tasty! I made my sourdough biscuit recipe, then turned them into cinnamon rolls. I read in a grain recipe book that biscuit based cinnamon rolls are really good. I agree!

They were messy to make, but I’m a fairly messy cook. This used up my morning’s sourdough discard. Other than the butter, which I buy cheap brands of, this used a small amount of sugar and cinnamon. They aren’t crazy sweet, which I like.

You could jam them in your ear hole and block out the leaf blower.

mmmm.. cinnamon rolls! very nice Lori!

I went to WV last weekend. DH was off Fri-Sun so we got to go to Pittsburgh. We went to the strip market (International food shopping) and had lunch at Rolands Seafood grill. It was a really great experience. The meat market is crazy. Rattlesnake anyone? lol, not for me!

My youngest switched his major to High Voltage Lineman. He's loving it and I'm just glad he isn't complaining. Kal finished up at JuCo and starts OSU in the fall.

It's graduation season around here too. I'm glad we aren't having to go, just dropping in for a party or 2.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
