Ive come to the conclusion that Ive gotten WAY TOO OLD...
to do automotive engine work... started stripping down the original engine from the blue smart car ( since the one in the blue car is now toasted which came from the yellow one the wifey wrecked)
I set up a tarp to work on ( in case I dropped nuts/bolts etc) and hung another one to create a shady spot.. my knees dont bend like they used to, my hips cant take the 180 degree bends any more, my eyesight is terrible... and the finger tips on my left hand have no feeling ( totally numb from that table saw incident) so I cant "feel" the bolt heads and stuff... and after 4 hrs in the heat and humidity... I had to end the day shorter than I had anticipated... o_O

plus... I have to remove the entire front of the motor to get the head off of the block... and I have to remove the cams since the head bolts are under the cams... wasnt expecting that.. o_O

other than that... beer time and alot of Youtube video watching to find out more about what Im getting into...

looks like Ill be taking about a week off from work to get this done... did the costs estimate and taking a week off is 80% cheaper than having a shop do it...

the Smartcar shop ( Mercedes Benz) wants 8500$ to do it... a "friend" ( a certified SC mech) of the wifey said he will do it for 5100$... I now understand why its so expensive... you have to pull the entire engine assy out of the car and remove just about everything off of it to remove the head....

Yep. Working on cars sucks. The contorting alone makes it a horrible task.

Saw a truck today that reminded me of you. I'm behind this tandem dump truck. I'm looking at the four rear tires. The far left one had zero tread. It was a slick. The far right one had next to no tread. Mostly a slick with an occasional outline of where the tread once was. The two middle ones had tread all around on about a quarter of the tire. Tread missing everywhere else. Mud flaps chewed down to the nub so they were worthless. One brake light did not go on. The other was just a bulb. The cover was shattered and mostly missing. The gate would not seal so he was spilling gravel the entire time. Why do passenger cars require an annual inspection and these trucks do not? And how does a cop not pull this guy over? That truck has no business being on the road.

Happy birthday Papaw! Hoping Mamaw fixes you a special dinner!

I am cooking steaks on the grill tonight. In fact, I will be starting shortly. Dug up about five pounds of red potatoes from the garden late yesterday, so grilled steal and roasted potatoes for supper.
Mamaw is heading to Food Lion because she is out of eggs, and wants to bake me a cake !

Steaks and potatoes are on the grill.
Cake is in the oven.
Did manage to mow the lawn before my feet started screaming.
And I have heard from loved ones and old friends.
Nice, peaceful day.
Liked this for everything but the feet screaming. Maybe you should scream back at them?

Just add corn on the cob and scratch biscuits, with sweet tea.
(and a touch of Worcestershire Sauce )

Those red taters look delicious. Nice meal Pop!

A recipe I got off of allrecipies.com. 1/4 cup olive oils, two clove of garlic, lemon pepper and rosemary. Fork and microwave potatoes for 2 minutes, then cut and bathe in olive oil mixture. Grill 15 - 18 minutes.

FranC you have been having it rough for sure. I am so sorry to hear this. Sometimes life can be difficult, believe me I know. I always like to have hobbies that keep me busy when times are hard. (even when they aren't rough, it still helps me) Mutual hobbies make for great friends often times.
