There is only one ideology to which I subscribe, its primary belief and primary product is liberty. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, I am a member of a dying breed.

Speaking of which, I fear that Retired1 will soon arrive deleting posts he finds offensive and letting us know that liberty ends at the portal to the ECF. We could take it to the "outside" but I have been found too offensive and hurtful to go there and have been forever banned.

Just before I posted, I remembered that we aren’t in Kansas anymore. Had to stop and re-read to make sure I wasn’t crossing any lines. Life is so many rules and so little ability to avoid triggering someone. ;)

It’s very hard to picture you being ungentlemanly. You must have a side I’ve not seen, eh? Glad you’re still hanging out here though.

The Outside changes people. Typically not for the better. :)

I love hearty debate but avoid hateful conflict like the plague. I’m a peace-maker at heart.

We all need a strong filter on ourselves. It used to be called “self-control” and was a key component of “good character.”

Now we just all wait to be brain-chipped. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, LA, I must confess that on rare occasion, when faced by the band of jackals inhabiting the Outside, my ancient reptilian brain may have userped control over my more modern cortex.

Remember, in our world, your right to speak freely ends where someone else's feelings begin.

Before that statement triggers any moderator, I fully recognize that this is Smoky Joe's playground and he gets to set the rules. I would prefer that the rules be equally applied rather than differentially applied. However, in no case do I have to financially support the differential enforcement of his rules. Consequently, I will end my 'supporting member' status at its re-newal time.

I was reading through recent marketing articles. That’s not as interesting as it used to be for me, but that’s another story.

One article talked about how brands can manage comments on TikTok. Many brands just don’t allow comments because it gets too ugly. Expert marketing consultants were quoted saying, no, you have to allow comments! Just have a strategy for dealing with it. After all, Gen Z is a highly vocal segment with strong opinions that they are used to “expressing” and you mustn’t “deprive” them of that if you want them to buy your product.

Oh my. I may be too old-fashioned for my field. Then again, that particular opinion/feelings affliction has hit every generation.

When you add the “correct speech” dogma, it gets so much worse. Feels to me sometimes like all the world is someone else’s playground and I don’t understand the rules.

Only if you allow them the opportunity to gain some sense of superiority. Telling them "£π#¥ #¢÷π" usually sends them on their way, although the ECF frowns on telling some people exactly what they need to hear.

I can see how that could work. But remember the golden rule: Don’t feed the trolls. To me, that goes double for real life. I’d rather not feed their sense of persecution and victimhood.

My feet do the talking. (No, not up anyone’s backside! As in walking away!)

Big fan of this truth from Proverbs: “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.”

Kinda like Twitter, no? That place is such a sewer. I'm glad I never signed up for it.

I signed up for Twitter when it launched because of clients using it. I had to get familiar. Then I never used it until I managed HHV’s account and got into using it to keep up with vape news and info. It really is an awful place overall.

Me too. No use for it. Or facebook.

Ten years ago it was fun catching up with old friends and distant relatives on Facebook. Another instance where I signed up because clients wanted to make use of it, so I had to know what it was about and how it worked.

Got old fast. That one turned ugly too.

A few weeks ago, Heather told me her daughter, Emily, was expecting a baby after 2.5 years of trying. They were waiting to announce it. Sadly, Emily had a miscarriage just before the July 4 holiday. I talked to Heather yesterday and they are all heartbroken.

Please pray for Emily and Conner and Adam and Heather. Emily worked at HHV, and is truly a lovely young woman.

So anyhow, most of us likely saw clips of that Virgin Galactic. It reveals a lesson that I'm sure few people pay attention to. Capitalism works! This space adventure would never happen without rich people. In this case, a zillionaire. Soon we will see a couple more zillionaires doing similar things. Are most of these zillionaires egotistical jackasses? Yep. But irrespective of that, they are funding these crazy adventures. Or what we think are crazy adventures. As these adventures become commercialized and industrialized they will become more and more frequent and affordable (economies of scale) meaning the pace of things we learn will reach hyper-speed. What will we learn? Who knows! I'm sure many things we do not even know about. But whatever it is we learn, it is likely going to serve the populace to improve our lives (and yes, the military will use it for the opposite purpose). Just remember, this adventure would never happen without rich people. So when so many are so willing to vilify rich people, remember the means by which you vilify them likely came from an invention funded by a rich person. :) Wealth is a technology propellant.
Although personally I could wish that particular jackazz a one way ticket.

Funny you mention playgrounds. Other than here, I spend no time on "social media" at all. The older I get, the more the entire internet - of late - has become a specially built sandpit for 15-30 year old brats going on 5 years old, to fling cat turds at each other. Juvenile and ignorant beyond belief. I've always said that if Karl Marx had lived the reality of his "philosophy" he would have slit his throat before committing that pile to paper.
