Veggie cage nearly complete. I just need to add the netting on the front. Thinking about how I want to do it for easiest access. It turned out okay for being quick and dirty — and low cost.

There’s hardware cloth lining the bottom and curled up a couple inches. The sides are wrapped with it too, and then zip tied to the bottom curls. The top and upper sides are wrapped with a high quality netting.

No idea how well that netting will protect, but I’m giving it a shot. My hands suffered only three stabs and a knuckle scrape thanks to the hardware cloth. Nasty stuff! (Had to remove my leather work gloves to do the zip ties.) Still… happy with the result.
Nice bit of engineering. It's a bit beyond my level of enthusiasm, though.

When you're done with it, give it to Mamaw. She can throw Pop in it when he becomes intolerable.

What can be more exciting than caged up aphids?

Anyone here know what the value is of having a medical panic button? How is it better than just dialing 911? It looks like it’s a service you pay for monthly and all they do is basically call 911 for you.

Is it for people who live alone? Elderly parents who are always together and have a cell phone are asking us to help them get this because their friends have it. Not sure how it would benefit them.

And do you have to give the medical panic button service your health background?

I have considered one. At 77 I sometimes am not as agile as I would like. If I fell when out in the farther reaches of the land while "acting foolish" even if Mrs CMD was home she might not know. But, I am reluctant to pay someone to dial 911 for me. As times go on, "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" may become increasingly important.
I don't know anyone who has one or admits to it.

I have known folks to have them if they lived alone. If they don't have their cell phone on them, it is a good option. I considered it when I lived alone with no family around.

I am reminded of the story recently where a 65 yo died in his house and apparently no one checked on him for a month. I was thinking the lifeline thing might have helped him.

His poor dog, Gunner, was left in the backyard with nothing. He barely survived on rainwater and was covered in ticks and fleas. Guess I will make a donation to try to help him. Sad story but if anyone is interested:

    Gross.

Anyways, a friend of mine who is a trucker (imagine that) and delivers gasoline and diesel in the area went to the distribution rack yesterday. After sitting there for two hours, someone from the office walked out to tell him , "We can't get any diesel from Houston".
$5 a gallon sucks. No diesel (hello, transportation industry) would hurt.
Mamaw and I just got back from a $465 run to Sam's Club to stock up on non parishables. I have enough TP to wipe for a year, more paper towels than we could use anytime soon, and stocked up with boxes of deodorant, body wash, ibuprofen, vegetable oil, coffee, paper plates, cereal, simply pasta, mayo, and whatever else we can store throughout the summer.

Is that lack of diesel feeling like a trend to you? Shipping is in plenty of disarray already. No diesel really would hurt.

We had our first mailbox pirate theft yesterday. Someone removed an REI package, tore it open, took the shirt, then stuffed the empty package back in the box. Our friend was expecting a new debit card, but thankfully that came today. I’m expecting a check from a client but don’t know whether it was sent yet, or if it was in the box. Ugh.

Yikes. I’d call the client to verify. They’d understand.

Our mail is delivered on an isolated rural road. I've kept a PO Box for years. Our medication, auto parts all kind of stuff is too big for the home delivery. So, it would sit on the road by the mail box. We use the PO Box almost exclusively. If mail is in the home box, it is probably junk.

How often do you pick up your mail?

Between "Informed Delivery" which is pretty good about showing what's there and package tracking, I end up at the PO about three times a week. I usually tie it to going do some paying work, grocery state that Kind of thing. Before gas prices took off, I'd go just to get out of the house - not no more. I need a reason and since we are twenty miles from civilization, a trip to town requires some planning and a bank loan.

I'm starting to use gas cost over miles when planning trips. Yesterday I had to go to HomeDepot. It was a $6 trip. I was going to go to Walmart and when I added the cost of gas it was much cheaper to order off Amazon. My friend wanted me to come down for a visit in FL. $300 just for gas. I took a pass.

Yep, gas prices are getting in the way to be sure.

Funny you calculating cost over miles, a couple of months back, I drove somewhere kind of for the heck of it. When I got home I thought, "Was that really worth $7.50?" I decided it was time to re-think my driving habits.

I think it is part of the plan, as Billy Gates says, "It's a feature, not a bug".

Afternoon... Got the shopping I needed to do done. A couple things I put on hold till next week due to what I was spending today. And I didn't really feel like it. At PetSmart I buy 24 cans of cat food. I have enough now for maybe three weeks or so. But the cat food was buy 10 get two free. Saved almost $10.
When I made the bed after washing the sheets last week I noticed I was in need of new sheets. Did some checking on prices this week. Ended up at Target. Well 400 thread count sheets (Threshold brand) were $55 for Queen size. 600TC was more like $95. Not paying $95 and up for sheets. Then I found a few 500TC on an end cap. Same brand different style I guess. But I could not find a price for them anywhere and the store checker didn't list them. Maybe they were on clearance or something. So I took them to the service desk. If they were to much I'd get the 400TC ones. Well they said yes they were on clearance and they were $5. I had to ask a couple times but yes he said $5 dollars. I think he made that price up, but he checked me out right there. With what they were priced at before and what I thought I would pay for the others I saved about $50 either way. Yes a nice Queen size set of 500TC sheets for $5. :w00t:
