I sold both my guitars today and got a good price. There’s a cool little vintage guitar shop in Burbank and they were fair and decent. Very chill. The young guy knew guitars and appreciated the value of my ‘77 Guild D50 — that Guilds are underrated but great guitars.

I spent so much time in little guitar shops like that one! Makes me happy to think of the player who will be making music and loving their new vintage guitar.

I’m sure it was hard enough to let them go. They’re kinda like your buddies. I can’t imagine the day I separate from my truck. Hopefully, I go before it does. The one guy I thought of willing it to died. I know he would have cherished that truck cuz he had one too and was the forum guy who helped me so much. I was certain he would mollycoddle that truck vs my nephews who would beat it into the ground and scrap it in 2 years. My point is, it’s sad to lose your guitars but at least you have some peace of mind as to where it went.

Exactly so. I had the acoustic for 45 years and the electric for 20. This marks the first time since I was 8 years old that I don’t own a guitar. It’s kinda weird. If I ever do get the urge to strum a little, our friend has a very nice acoustic Taylor here.

May you live long enough to enjoy your truck to fullest extent that beautiful vehicle has in it! :)

One of my favorite guitarists, Pat Metheny, is a connoisseur of cheap acoustic guitars. Of course if you can play like him they probably don’t sound cheap.

Photographers say the same about their gear. A friend of mine had a mandolin he built out of a cigar box. He was so talented that it sounded incredible when he played it.

Pat has a solo at around 6:26 in this Joni Mitchell video. It’s always been one of my favorite guitar pieces. I used to lift the needle and go back to play it over and over. Remember when we had to do that? LOL

He was so young there!

This is a song I think of when I hear someone say, “They made their guitar sing”. He loses it on this one as he does on so many others. Lyle Mays RIP

Hmm, the video doesn't show up for me.
Edit: but it does in the reply (one time-then gone)

I am in awe of people who can play like that or play at all as I have zero musical ability. Not for lack of trying, I took piano lessons, guitar lessons. For naught, I think my music teacher cried when I quit. For joy, not cause I was leaving her. Totally tone deaf, can't sing a note. The strange thing is I come from a musical family and all except my mother could play anything by ear and they all sang.

I was never able to fully learn to read music and have always been in awe of those who could sight read and sing the notes. The Good Lord gave those who give music and those who receive it. There’s a lot of joy to be found in both. :)

I find one either has musical talent or none at all. And those with none have little to no chance to learn it. Another oddity… music is highly mathematical yet one does not ensure the other.

That’s what formed such a block in my brain about reading music — it really is mathematical. I learned to sing and play songs by sound and memory. Feeling the rhythms and the tones. To think about it mathematically felt so strange! As usual, I probably over-thought it. :D

I do appreciate good music and talent. Still frustrating that I can't even sing in the shower as it hurts MY ears lol. I remember as a teen playing my record player with the current hit songs and finding my baby sister who could barely talk playing those songs on her little keyboard. She heard my records and just played by ear, that amazes me.

    Makes little sense.

Afternoon.. Got shopping done early so I could go to the dentist at Noon. Teeth cleaned and made appointment to have a crown done. Been putting it off for two years. Thought I'd better do it while I have the insurance for it because I'm not sure how much longer I'll be at my job. I have two cavities that will get done after the crown. The yard will get mowed tomorrow..

    Lazy cat..
