There's no lack of them in Shreveport , I bought a 12ga Winchester pump for the house . I could not see well enough to be sure of hitting with the .45 . My old Mossberg needs repairs . I trust more in 00buckshot than a 45 hollowpoint anyway . Scot asked me why I bought anothe shotgun , told him I'm blind as a bat then he went to the range with his guns and couldn't hit a target because he can't see the sights either , kinda surprised him . told him now you know why I bought the Winchester . I put a fiber optic sight on it , put the green dot on target and pull the trigger , end of problem .
A shotgun is a good choice for people with good eyesight.

The Winchester has an 18 inch barrel my Mossberg has a 26 inch barrel . There are narrow hallways in the house . I can keep the Winchester mounted on my shoulder and turn , can't do that with the Mossberg . The Mossberg is made for hunting 4 legged and flying critters . The Winchester is made for hunting 2 legged critters . The Winchester is the better choice for the house . Plus the fore end on the Mossberg is split lengthwise , bought the gun in my early twenties .It's old and it sat in a flooded house for 2 months after Katrina , got all the rust of of it and cleaned it up but the humidity split the fore end where the wood was thinnest . I doubt that the tactical synthetic stocks made for the newer 500 and 590's would fit the gun without a lot of modification . I'd have to take it to a gunsmith . Synthetic is the way to go in the high humidity we have down here . But yeah a shotgun is the best choice for defending the castle . I doubt that I would have to make a follow up shot after a round of 00buckshot to the chest or head .

Afternoon.... The temps are going to be all over the place this week. Mostly warmer so that's good. The work on the house was finished last week. I'm very happy with it. Scruffy is getting over his fear of the door change. With the temps up wanting to go outside is getting the better of him. So I push him out through the flap. He stays out about 5min then comes back through on his own.

Definitely a short shotgun is the way to go for self defense...if only for the maneuverability advantages. I don't have a shotgun. Maybe one day. I have a .357/38 revolver for home defense. I need to look at some compact stuff for our cars...wife too. Might do that later this year.

Afternoon.. They noticed a couple shingles were delaminating when they were painting. I'm waiting on a estimate to replace them. Other than that it's in good shape. And yes I really like it.

I’ll guess $8K for your roof.

Having just researched the snot out of roofing in 2020, I found if you stick to the tried n true brands you’ll be safe. Certainteed, Atlas, Owens Corning. GAF was junk.

    So no more fire worries?
Not imminently. But this year’s rainy season so far hasn’t been enough to put everyone at ease. We did get a little over the last few days and that helps.

Air quality is a big concern because of so much old building material that burned. A lot of lead, asbestos and other bad chemicals in the air. Might take 2 years to get back to safer levels. Usually the wildfires burn brush not so many buildings.

Afternoon.... We got 2 inch's of snow yesterday. And looks like we're in the teens most of this week. I am so over the cold.
We got a little snow today too. We haven’t had any snow in a few years. Kids in the neighborhood are loving it.
