Hey kids. Been awhile. I got busy in a hurry. Includes my truck catching fire. Came out of the store and a firetruck was next to my truck. He said someone called it in. I saw no fire. Lifted the hood and sure enough there was a fire. Roasted a bunch of wires, tubes, and stuff. So I’ve been repairing the damage. Still have the cruise control and AC not working. Other than that it’s back to normal. I dodged a bullet big time. It could have been way worse. Not certain what started the fire. I did discover the connection at the alternator was sparking. It’s guarded with an insulator. I cleaned up the connection and it was fine. Not sure if that sparking was the cause or effect. Anyway, it is what it is. Hotter than Hades out there. Hope y’all are doing good.

Glad it wasn't worst.

Afternoon... Still hot around here as well. Now we're getting afternoon rain. Lawn mower is acting up. Was able to get it to run so I could mower the yard. So I have two weeks before I need to mow again to work on it. So I need to search the model number so I can figure out the problem. I think it's in the fuel system.

Afternoon.... hope everyone is doing well. The heat way broke this week. Should be nicer this next week. My mower started acting last week. I got it running to cut the grass. But now it won't start at all. I took the carb off and cleaned it. I took the carb back off and it's getting gas. But still not starting. So spent 12.50 for a new plug. Not even trying to start. So I think it's time for a new mower. Because I'm not fooling with it anymore. I more than got my money out of this one..

Yep, gets to a point where it's time to ditch the thing. Kinda surprised your grass is growing. Mine quit growing a month and a half ago. The only thing growing are weeds.

Got the cruise control fixed. Just needed the right part. That is getting harder for a 32 year old truck. So I still have to fix the AC. No hurry for that. And I will want to repaint the hood cuz it has a burn mark on it. I'll paint the roof too cuz the clearcoat is about gone. I'll do that in October or November when we have nicer weather.

Hope y'all are doing well!

Evening.. Yes my grass is still growing. But we haven't had a lot of rain so it's growing slow enough to not be to high. I'm looking at $700 / $800 for a new mower. My pick at this point is an EGO cordless. Between two models. So $700 or $750. The difference is single blade with 6.0 torque or double blade X cut with 7.0 torque. Same size battery in both. (56V) About 60 mins. of run time. Both are likely over kill for my yard. But what the heck. EGO gets high reviews.

When I switched to a cordless mower 2 years ago I chose this one, it was expensive but I love it.

You gotta be happy with what you get and only you know what makes you happy. My inclination has always been to NOT get battery powered equipment but truthfully that has faded considerably the last several years. There are advantages to battery operated stuff to be sure. I don't know much about EGO but what little I know has been positive. Sure is nice to get away from gas and oil. Meanwhile, I'm still using my Craftsman push mower/mulcher I bought it 1991...back when they made good stuff. The thing could blow up tomorrow and I'd have no room to complain.

I have the single bladed EGO , it actually will power through grass that would stall the Honda gas powered mower I had , Gave the Honda to my neighbor when his mower conked out . Using the EGO in mulching mode cuts the run time by 1/3 to 1/2 . An hour of run time using the chute is about right . Thinking of getting a spare battery since I tend to continue on in to my neighbors yard when I'm cutting . He does the same for me . Love not having to deal with gas , air filters etc .

That's good to hear.. I'm likely going with the duel blade. It'll likely be over kill. But it's only $50 more than the single. So $700 vs $750. Plus I'm feel like getting what I want instead of just what I need to get by. For a change..

Evening... Been a bit cooler for a couple days. A few trees are starting to change. But it's more due to the hot dry weather. We haven't had any nights below 55. Went to Lowes after work and bought the Ego mower. (LM2135SP $800 with tax) It didn't go on sale but I can't wait any longer. I had help to put it in the truck. Got home and had dinner then did the unboxing. Just finished getting it registered and reading the manuals for the mower, battery and the charger so I have an idea how things work. Just basic stuff mostly. The battery and charger have some smart functions that are good to know about. So I'm ready but not today. If I get home early enough tomorrow I'll mow. If not it'll wait till Sunday. Going to an air show Saturday with my Son. And I know I won't feel like mowing after walking around a good part of the day.

I bought mine at Lowes 3 years ago . it was $450 then . Disgusting price increase on these IMO . It's still a time and money saver though compared to a gas mower . The extra torque is handy too .

Yes it powered through the yard without any trouble. Now it did leave some grass and weeds uncut. But that's not the mowers fault. That was Friday. Today I lowered the deck one spot and went over the front again. It cut everything it missed before. It was really high Friday. And a lot of it was weeds which can be hard to cut. I'm going to leave the mulch blade on for now. I may put the high lift blade on later to see how that works. The reviews say it will still mulch with the high lift blade just the clippings will be a little bigger. But the extra suction lifts the grass better. As for the weeds. I got a big bag of grass seed and a bag of weed and feed. They were on sale at Walmart for $11 each. Not sure if I'll use it before it gets cold or wait till Spring. But I have it.

Plant the seed in the Fall. One, it sets up nicely in the Spring, two grass seed goes bad in the bag and it don't take long.

Speaking of doing things differently...I hired a mechanic to swap my rack n pinion on my truck. It's leaking out of the pinion seal and it's not going to get better. Actually there are two reasons why I hired out instead of doing it myself. One, I'll spend a couple hours rolling around on the garage floor then spend the next week in traction. Just not worth it anymore. This old fart has had enough of that nonsense. Two, I see there's a decent chance the steering shaft will get wrecked pulling the old rack out. The mechanic has tools and equipment to repair the shaft in the event he damages it vs what I have. So like David, it's time to quit skimping and just do what's best.
