Homemade syringe tank mod, looks easy!

Well I got 30 pages in, and my brain hurts.

I am trying to figure out if I can just buy/order the plungers/grommets at any store by themselves, or do I need to buy 2 syringes to make one tank?


On another note, has anyone tried pulling apart a Clear Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer and using that as a tank? You would need to find something to use for rubber end caps of course.

I don't understand about the not being able to punch the hole for the ce2, because it was to big. What were you punching out with the atty. If it was a 510 threaded atty, it the same size as a 510 cartomizer and thats what I use to punch out the 20ml syringe rubber plunger. Is that what you were talking about?? What was to big, the hole or the base of the ce2? I use the carto/atty to punch the hole and the ce2 fits it well.

The ce2s I am using are clearos with the plastic tube removed, so only the metal base of the ce2 itself. It is smaller in diameter than the hole made by punching with a 510 atty. I wanted to replace the clearo tube with the 3ml syringes I bought, but they are too big. Today I will try drilling out the slip tip end of the 3ml syringe to try to use it as a replacement tube.

Seems that only one person has found any plungers and they cost an arm and a leg for many thousands of them. Your best bet is to spend the $3 and buy the syringes

Built one of these yesterday and so far it's working great.

I started off with a CE2 and that irritated me, so I switched it for a 2.5 ohm Smoktech carto I had laying around. The thing works so well I just ordered 15 resurrectors for it

The spots on the battery are what came off my fingers after using a dremel tool on a CE2 I *thought* was empty.

AH HAH! Another use for a dental pick!

I used a dremel tool also, but joanr suggested using a 1/4" saddle valve available at any home supply store for five or six bucks. That sounded like a great idea to me.

Otherwise, yepper, two syringes for one tank. I still trying to figure out what to do with the surplus bodies and plunger shafts...

ETA: I found a link I saved a while back for THESE. Supply your own tubes. For now, I'll stick with the syringe tank project.

That is why you need the clear tube on the CE2 to seal it with the plunger you punched out. Now I use a BD 3ml Syringe on my CE2 and it fits very well, so I don't understand when you say they (the 3ml syringes you bought) are to big to fit on your CE2, Maybe its the brand you have I just don't know. What is the brand of you 3ml syringe and maybe someone else on this forum could tell you if they ever used that brand. Hope this helps a little.

I have looked at my Ego clear mega, and I don't have anything on hand that will fit it. Nice thought though, and maybe you can find something that will work. If not buy a couple of 20ml syringes, they work great.

Yeah my 3ml are the ideal brand. I thought someone posted a link to those saying they'd used them for the ce2s but my memory must have been off. I'm gonna have to try to get my hands on the BD ones. The slip tip drill out, though tight when I put it on, is producing some leakage. So I need something more secure.

Found that the clear plastic tubes that solder comes in is rather ideal for this mod - very clear, super strong and the right diameter. Only problem is how to create the seals. Any ideas ?

If anyone is wondering how the tank works, think of the automatic plant pot watering things - basically a container of water with a spout that is pressed down into the soil. The water will not enter the soil unless the soil is dry, such that air can get from the soil into the container thus allowing some water out. It can be described as an '(anti) vacuum effect'.

I found that plastic coin tubes work well too. Very sturdy, but again, the problem with the rubber end caps....

If you could find some grommets that are the right OD for your tube and the right ID for your carto, that would work. I got some 5/8" ID grommets, but they were too small for the syringe tubes. 3/4" grommets are harder to find. I think I remember finding some online, but I didn't order any as I had already ordered a box of 50 20ml syringes.

I think someone also posted a type of rubber washer that works for tank caps. It was a slight cone shape. I don't remember what it was called.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. I tried to make something with the coin tubes I found, and got some rubber stoppers that I cut down and made a hole in. Functionally, it worked great. They didn't leak, and I cut them down good enough to fit very well. But I couldn't use it. The rubber stank very very strongly and, I dunno if it was just in my head or not, but I swear it made my liquid taste very rubbery. I believe the rubber in syringes is made so that nothing from the rubber comes off in the liquid. Wouldn't be a very good syringe if it tainted whatever you were injecting. That's why I'd just stick with the syringes.

I would be cautious on what materials you use to make your tanks. Different plastics and rubber stoppers may contain substances that may not be very healthy to inhale. I would highly recommend sticking to medical syringes due to the fact that they are made for injecting substances. They wont have anything harmful in them.

Great thread! I am not a modder at all...never modded anything except to add lanyard rings to my Reo grand and mini. I made two of these last week to use on my little chuck and have used and abused them every day since. I've had NO leaking at all. Tried to add a hole to fill with at the top so it would be covered by the rubber top cap but that leaked for me so I don't use that modded one now. I also had to reduce the length of the tube as I am using it on standard sized cartos on a chuck so it would have no air flow if made like the OP's. I do have an extender on order so that won't be an issue in subsequent builds. Thank you so much for sharing this information and for all the other posts discussing it. Nice clean taste and not much hassle though using my REO's is less bother but it is nice to change things up once in a while and I do love my butterfly little chuck also. Great tube mod IMHO. I will be watching this thread for further innovations to this tank mod! Especially ways to fill it without using a needle.

I do believe we already have that issue addressed. You have to use some sort of stopper in the filler hole like the one shown in my avatar. You can't just put a hole in by the top end cap and hope the end cap covers it. If you use a plug of some sort in a hole in the middle of the tank, that problem should be solved.
