Jack, I have a multimeter, the kind with 2 leads and a digital readout. I have checked cartos with it and I am assuming that I can check my rba the same way. Is my assumption correct? Thank you.

In my anxiety of waiting for my hornet, I picked up some 32 ga Kanthal A1 (the only ga they had) and made this coil by heating it up until red 3 times then wrapping around machine screw, then backing out the screw. Don't have anything to compare it to, so in wondering if you think it is on the right track? Thank you.
I agree.![]()
Actually I'm thinking even though my Surface just came in and I only used it for 1 day that I am going to place it in the classys and try and get some money back to order another Hornet. When you think of the days when we smoked stinky analogs, (they are $8.50 a pack here in CT) so spending another $75.00 for a Hornet is really only 9 days of regular cigarette smoking! The Surface came to over $50.00 after shipping so really not that much cheaper than a Hornet. - Don't you like the way I justify things to buy more toys???
Yeppers, you can check the ohms with a multimeter. I find it a little more cumbersome in that you have to remember to subtract the static resistance of the meter to get the proper reading plus my arthritic hands make it difficult to hold the leads on the coil legs. None of this should dissuade you from using a multimeter since you're probably a puppy of normal or above average intelligence whereas I'm old and dumber than a box of rocks.
Oh, when I make coils I simple screw the RBA onto the ohm meter, it makes for a very stable base. If I remember correctly they're around 20 bucks or so.
What ever you use, just get into the habit of testing and you'll be fine. Good luck.
Jack
It looks perfect!!
super_X_drifter, that looks perfect. Very neat and tidy. Looks (to me) to be about 1.4-1.5 ohms if you're using 32 gauge....What wick material are you using (going to use)?
Yeah, the 32 is kinds springy. The 30 gauge will be a little "thicker" and you can get another wrap or two and still end up with the same resistence. The rolled cotton will swell quite a bit, so don't put so much in that it chokes. The 30 gauge Kanthal is a little easier to deal with if you want to pull out an old wick and slide a new one in. With the 32 gauge (which I use mostly,) you can distort the wraps while you're trying to pull a new wick through if you're not careful.
Wrapping coils is just plain fun to me, and I have trouble making myself leave one in. I always think I could do another one better.......but the truth is, once you get it down, they're all great and it's hard to mess one up where it's not useable.
Have fun with your (soon to be) new toy. Life is good, huh?
I own the Hornet and just got my first Surface I do prefer the size of the hornet just hate the fact its so hard to get the cap off. The size of the Surface doesn't bother me since I was running boge cartos on my Mini and its the same size and also like the fact that the Surface is leak proof and the Hornet not so much. the other thing I like better about the Surface is the it seems tougher than the Hornet. The hornet top cap is pretty thin and being mine is aluminum easily damaged. Also i only paid $47 for my second surface I just ordered and believe the first 1 was cheaper. Did you get the drip tip also?

I love my Hornets especially on the REO Mini 1.0. Using shorty DTs on the A7 Mini and Surface make them a little better in terms of height. I'll add, I'm more okay with the taller RBAs on the Mini REO 2.0 (18490) than on the Mini 1.0. The Mini 2.0 is bulkier so the tall RBAs seems a bit more balanced than on Mini 1.0.

Here's another question: are the torched ones steel or aluminum? Thank you.

Hi Alice ,
Jan suggested I ask an expert. I did in fact just sell my Surface and going to order another Hornet. I understand you have both the Aluminum colored model and the stainless model. I have the black aluminum model and was wondering if the stainless model is sturdier, tougher? I really like the colored but they mark up easily taking the cover off the first few times and also seem to be more prone of getting out of round. Are the stainless ones thicker/stronger?
Your thoughts appreciated and valued.![]()
Hey Rebar, Theres some right here, courtesy of (not so) Lazymatt:Can someone post a pic of the inside of the hornet please? And what kind of wire/wick/ohm combo's are you running on 3.7 on a mini?
Thanks for your insights!
I just thought of another factor that may sway my decision, that being SS are available and black aluminum is not!![]()
