Can someone please explain what they want to do to batteries? I am really confused here.

Part of the amendment is this:

(b)(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law,

5 not later than 12 months after the date on which vapor

6 products are deemed to be subject to the Federal Food,

7 Drug, and Cosmetic Act pursuant to section 901(b) of

8 that Act (21 U.S.C. 387a), the Secretary of Health and

9 Human Services shall issue a notice of proposed rule

10 making to establish a product standard for vapor product

11 batteries pursuant to section 907 of that Act (21 U.S.C.

12 387g).

That section basically gives the Sec. of HHS the ability to set standards regarding public health. Hard to say exactly what that would be, but it may have to do with short and charge protections for internal (eGo/istick) batts. Not much they could do about replaceable batts since they are used in many other products.

ok cool because somewhere in all the reading tonight I got it in my head that mods with replaceable batteries would be banned. Glad to know I am jumping at shadows.

Some in Congress themselves vape.
And somehow I think they'd continue to be able to do so, even were a complete ban enforced. Remember, Congress makes laws that we "peasants" must follow, but they frequently make sure that they are not subjected to these same laws themselves. ;):-x

On topic: I'm certainly glad to see this thread. At least there may be a glimmer of hope. :pop:

Interesting that a democrat (Sanford Bishop) is also a sponsor of the amendment. For those interested this is the text of the amendment

COLE_027_xml.pdf

Here, there, everywhere: Political alignment takes precedence over common sense.

Happens all the time all over the world. Good ideas get blasted cuz they're put forward by the 'wrong' party.
Opposing for oppositions sake cuz it was the 'other' side that had the idea instead of avaluating any idea on its own merits/risks.

If a democrat invented the best mousetrap in the world the republicans wouldn't buy it cuz it got invented by a democrat. And vice versa. An insert for republican/democrat the applicable party hacks of your country/ governemnt and you'll realize that this idiocy is pandemic.

This confuses me also. Getting rid of rewraps and inferior batteries is easy enough but,
the name brand batteries are what they are. For the applications they are made for
there is not much to be done with them aside from technological or manufacturing
breakthrough's.
They will wind up regulating device power outputs.

If the deeming were to be at 2007, the mods would likely need the "approval" - but not the batteries.
