The advice I was given when I got my first vape was, vape as much as you like. Vape hard when you feel a craving come on, then wait a few minutes and see if it passes. Often, it did, but not always. But I kept track of how many times I avoided a cigarette and thought about why I gave in when I did.

Folks here all said, don’t beat yourself up. So I didn’t.

I only started vaping to reduce, and for times when I couldn’t smoke. And the times I couldn’t smoke so I vaped helped me so much, I think, because they gave me a resolve I otherwise didn’t have.

And I was surrounded by smokers then too. And it does make it harder.

Give yourself credit for every time you win. And think about what’s going on when you give in.

I went out with friends Saturday ( not something I normally do) and we had a few drinks, and some of them went out for a smoke. And I wanted one badly... but I knew the reason was the drinks and stepping out into the night air, away from the noise of the restaurant.

And I told myself those reasons are not that compelling, I’m stronger than that. And I can’t smoke here in front of everybody... and I pulled out my Topside and joined the smokers outside.

It’s been a day and half with out cigarettes, and I have quit multiple times before using sub ohm setups and a salt nic device. I have multiple of both. This time though... all I can think about is having one cigarette... how do I get this urge to go away? To not want to have one.. I’ve been vaping my a** off but i’m starting to smell them and they smell like s*** I’ll say that. Everyone around me smokes so it’s just kind of hard to this time I guess... my whole family smokes, my parents, my friends , I have a couple that vape but I don’t see them that much. Idk, just wanted to see what made it easy for everyone to finally quit. Thanks!

First, the first time you quit smoking and switch to vaping is easier than the second. Your trying to trick your mind into wanting the vape instead of the cigarette, but your addicted mind will find more loopholes and defenses against quitting the more you go back to smoking.. It's like a vicious circle.

All you can do is power through with all the willpower you can muster.

I found post it notes with little encouraging sayings strategicly placed around the house were very helpful for me.

Also, the financial aspect. Make the money your saving into little bonuses and treats for yourself.. It will keep you looking forward with vaping, instead of backward to cigarettes..

If you save 30 dollars this week, use that 30 for something you might want to buy for yourself, that you otherwise wouldn't..and keep looking forward, if I make it through today, I can buy that book. If I make it through this week, I can have that new pair of shoes..

just keep treating yourself until you stop thinking about smoking..

Your just trying to keep your mind onto the positive things about vaping, and power through your weakness. The longer you go, the easier it gets.

I quit around smokers. It can be done..

Everyone is different , so certain things may or may not work for you that work for others. Theres a lot of posts about the psychological aspects, but theres one try that's easy to do, but may or may not work, but definitely worth trying. With most doing low nic, high power or high nic salts, the freebase high nic is kind of a forgotten way , but has worked for many. Mtl at 18, 24, or higher might be something to try and vaping on this at every cig urge can do the trick....

Was I lucky? I don’t think so. The night before I went to the doctor I coughed up so much blood I thought I was going to drowned in it. When the X-ray showed a spot on my lung I threw the 1/2 pack in my pocket away. Consequently at that moment I hated cigarettes and 3 1/2 years later I still do. I would not smoke another if you put a gun to my head. People tell themselves “it won’t happen to me”, but it does. You should see cigarettes for what they are.... Sirens of death. Was it easy for me to quit staring death in the face? Like falling off a log.

The other times I quit it’s never been this bad haha, then again I wasn’t so stressed about all the crap going on in my life every other time I quit. I haven’t had one since like 9 at night Saturday night... i’m starting to think I might light one, and see how it taste and if i smoke it , i smoke it, if I put it out I put it out. But maybe I should try tapering down first , instead of full out quitting with how much I smoked... guess what i’m saying is, I shouldn’t beat myself up over one smoke.

^^ I've been saying that for 9 years now. Haven't had one yet.

Cigs stink now.

It's a tad hard when you first quit, the first 2 weeks are the worst. It's all those other 4999 chemicals you're missing (some of which WILL kill you). Push through. Vape. Change flavors. Focus on researching stuff/gadgets/recipes. I did DIY juice with a bunch of flavors to keep me occupied, but whatever works for you.

What it ALL gets down to is Your Need to Quit has to be Greater than Your Desire to Smoke.

I won't BS you. It can be Hard. Very Hard. Maybe the Hardest thing you will Ever Do. But It Can Be Done.

For Me, I Couldn't Quit Smoking by just Doing everything the Same in My Life. And just replacing Cigarettes with e-Cigarettes.

I had to Change things to Break the Routine. Like...

Change the Time I got up in the Mourning.
Change my Exercise Habits.
Change my Eating Habits.
Take a Different Route to Work.
Back the Car in when Parking.
Move the Furniture Around at the House.
Wear my Watch Upside on my Wrist.
I needed a New Life. Not just My Old Life without Cigarettes.

Because if I had my Old Life, I Knew that it was Only a Matter of Time before Something Hit and I would Yield to that Voice in My Head that said having One Cigarette would be OK.

You Can Make it. But it is Going to Take some Work.

And Remember, You Just have to get thru Today. That's All that Matters. Just Getting thru Today. And I Guarantee that Tomorrow will be Better.

Finding a flavor that hit the spot was half the battle. Then just dialing up the nic level until I reached a point where I basically forgot about smoking.

It also helped that I worked in my home office, so kept the vape right there for use whenever I wanted, and made smoking less convenient. Cigarettes and lighter placed elsewhere in the house and stop what i'm doing to go outside to smoke.

If you find you're obsessing, just go have one and get it out of your system. Soon enough those occasions will become farther apart, each time you realizing more and more how nasty it is. To the point you really don't want to do that knowing you're going to come back inside with your hands, hair, and clothes reeking.

Eventually the urges will become less urgent, to the point you can pick up the vape and not think about it too much. Next thing you know, it will have been days since you last thought about smoking. It will also take less willpower to pick up the vape instead, and put off smoking a while longer. Till you just aren't smoking any more.

The urge will go on for a while. Over time it will happen less often and be less intense. Eventually it will go away, but only if you don't give in to it. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I worked with a guy years ago who quit cold turkey. He had a sign on the wall that said "The urge to smoke will pass, whether I smoke one or not". He read it whenever he had a problem, said it helped.

May I ask what nic level you're at? I started with an Njoy cigalike that didn't really work. Commercial ejuice wasn't widely available, but between a stint of mixing myself and an online vendor that mixed to order exactly how I wanted it, I vaped 24. That gave me the throat hit that was close enough to cigarettes to not think about them. I gradually cut back. First 18, and now 12. It's impossible to find 12 in stores, as most casual users vape 3 and 6, mostly 3. The 6 just doesn't cut it, and 12 is now a bit much. I want to step down to 10, so DIY is coming back in fashion. The incidental step down program is going well.

It is different for everyone, I dual used for 11 months, my wife did so for 3 days.
For me it took a great deal of will power & grit to put down the cigs and go vape only. Even after all theses years without a single smoke I occasionally still get intense cravings & have the desire to smoke.
Ya just learn to live with it. My way of thinking its been xxxx days since my last one, no reason to go backwards & ruin that record.
That and I know what would happen if I smoked just one...

For my adult son vaping was nothing more than a trigger to smoke, he was a casual/light smoker, vaping intensified his desire to and the amount of cigs he smoked.
After he figured that out he tapered down his smoking without use of vaping from 4 - 12 per day to 1 or 2 per day in a 3 week period, then he decided it was silly to smoke 1 or 2 per day & quit.

Concentrate on figuring out what method to quit works best for you.

At 1st I allowed myself a couple of my really important cigarettes each day - 1 waking up, cause vaping just didn't give that quick rush, and 1 each after 2 meals. I then cut those out 1 at a time, but I did have to bump my nicotine up higher, too.

Off course for me it helped that the reason I had to finally quit was nerve damage that left me dropping lit cigarettes. Chasing them around in my chair or on the floor was a little too exciting for me.

It takes time and some trial and error but you can do it.

I smoked for over 20 years. My wife still smokes, before and after I quit. It wasn't easy but for me 3 things were very important: Nic salts helped beat the cravings, start at 50 mg and taper down as needed.

Next is a good device. Something you can carry and refill no problem. Provides a satisfying hit and enough vapor for your liking.

Finally, a good flavor is very important. Something that satisfies you, makes you forget about smoking etc. Once I got it right with all of that, quitting was much easier.

I always thought I'd struggle with that morning cigarette. I loved a cigarette first thing when I woke up with a nice cup of coffee or a Red Bull but eventually that all subsided. Stay positive.

CCVapes23, you've got a lot of really good opinions in this thread about things that may help you overcome the urge for a smoke while you keep trying to switch to vaping again.

It's not just about the hardware you're vaping though, succeeding at this is more a bigger picture kinda thing.

Hardware, juice selection, flavors, watts, throat hit, the amount of nic you vape, and your desire to quit smoking are all factors here.

If you love the Goon and it works for you, commit to it. If it doesn't end up doing the trick for you, re-read the posts here and you might find some insight that can help you.

Best of luck with it!

You may be pushing quitting prematurely. When I bought my first cig-a-like vape (Joye 510), I didn't quit smoking. I just started using the Joy 510 and smoking when I felt like it. I was learning about vaping at that point and I didn't push quitting, although quitting was my intent. Later on I bought an eGo. After a couple of months I decided I didn't need cigarettes anymore and finished my last pack.

Vape and enjoy it. Smoke one if you feel a strong urge. There's no shame in stretching out the transition. After a while of dual use, begin to stretch the time between smoking. Vape all you want. Try different flavors and find one that satisfies.

Dual use is common when you are trying to quit. High nic in mouth to lung mode may be the key. After all, cigarette smoking is mouth to lung. It's not necessarily cloud blowing. It's more about getting the nic that satisfies. Once the cigarettes are gone and you no longer crave them you can decide on the method you vape. For me, it was 24mg nic in mouth to lung mode that let me put down the smokes easily. It's more about replacing the nicotine than anythings else at first.

Smoking is associated with many things: drinking alcohol, drinking coffee, surfing the Internet, watching a game on TV, ... shrinks call it habituation by associative conditioning.

In my case, I always had a smoke with coffee which was at least four times a day. So I tried to blur the connection. With coffee flavored vapes, over time, even the coffee didn't taste as good. I can now have a coffee or a vape without connecting the two.
