How much were cigs when you starting smoking?

I loved the post about, "When did you start smoking a why?" and while I was typing my entry, I wondered how much the price of a pack of cigs cost when everyone started.

So....

The first pack of smokes I bought, was $1.25 in Hawaii, around 1987 or 88'.

In 1966 I lived in Greece and they were the equivalent of about 30 cents a pack, if I remember right.

Yes you are,lol. For me $2 would get you a pack of anything you wanted.

$0.25 a pack. Actually probably cheaper as I used to grab them out of my dads pack when he wasn't looking when I first started.

When I started being able to buy them on my own they were about $1.25 a pack, or you could get them for ten cents each or three for a quarter.

So I'm older than you. When I started smoking at 16, they were around 35 or 40 cents a pack in PA. Gasoline was also around 35 cents a gallon.

Unfortunatley I'm right there with 5cardstud. I used my school lunch money. Luckily, when they went to $.35 a pack, lunches went up too!

In 1955 a package of Lucky Strike cost .23 cents me out of a vending machine. You put a quarter in and the cigarette package had 3 new pennies under the cellophane wrap. Boy that was a long time ago....... When I went into the Marines in 1959, the military provided free cigarettes in our C-Rations, and a carton at the PX was $1.50.

They were around $1.75 for brand names and generics were around $1.25

When I was about 10 my mom would send me to the store to buy cigs for her...yes they sold to anyone!!...they were $.25 a pack!!

In 1987 I smoked (get ready for this mouthful) Virginia Slims Menthol Ultra Light 120s. The cost exactly $1. I remember when they went to $1.10 and I told myself I had to quit because they were too expensive. Yeah - that didn't work. Last pack I bought was $5.00.

I loved those old vending machines. A couple clubs I worked at had them, but most of them had other items instead of cigs...comdoms, Headache meds, candy...even socks!

I need one of those machines in my house...ejuice, atty's, batteries, carts hehehehe

I told myself I had to quit because they were too expensive. Yeah - that didn't work. Last pack I bought was $5.00.

Yeah...kinda trivial when you think back and remember complaining about the extra 10 cents on a dollar, with the costs now a days.

I remember that! Put a quarter in the machine, get a pack of anything, a book of matches and 2 cents back.
And those C-rat 1/2 packs <chucle>..
And we were rationed on how much we could get at the PX, Black Market and all.
