The price of gas in 1955 when I started smoking was between .12 and .13 cents a gallon, and if you filled your tank, you would get a free 6 pack of Coca Cola or double Green Stamps.....

I bet they were cheap when I started in the late 40's, I can't remember, I have to write my name on my blouse ....ask me what the price was when I stopped buying them in Jan. of this year. Okay I'll tell you any way. $6.50 here in the Sun Shine State, wonder what they are now?
25 cents a pack I must be having a grey moment I had forgot about green stamps and vending machines.
Smokes were .55 cents when I started smoking. Gas was around .65 cents a gallon. I still remember buying a carton for $3.00.
Ditto for me, That means we are both old. I was in Virginia. Cheap gas, aahh the good old days!
Green stamps! Haven't thought about those in ages! Price was 25 cents when I started as well.
I actually have a machine that works on 50 cents and even has the "Minors are Forbidden" sticker on it. I used to keep it filled up with my brand. I also have an old Coke machine with the slim glass door that works on 50 cents, but the Cokes were probably only 10 cents when the machine was new.
When I started smoking, a pack at a convenience store with the best price may have been about 45 cents. I can remember being in Florida once and nearly passing out when a pack was $1.00.
My family transplanted from New York to North Carolina when I was a teenager (1978). At the time we could buy smokes at under $5.00 a carton. Relatives would always carry an empty suitace when they visited so they could fill it up with smokes for themselves and friends / family up north. These days, even though there is still a difference, the tax man finally caught up to us in the tobacco belt. The last carton of Marlboros I purchased were right at $50.00. Glad I found e-cigs!!
Wow, she actually bought them for you? My dad gave me money for them (ok, he gave me money, but he knew what I was using for) but he wouldn't actually go to the store and buy them. I guess he figured if I was old enough to smoke, I was old enough to get them on my own.

Hi, my name is Nana, when my husband and I got married in 1969,he was stationed in Erglanger, Germany and we bought our smokes at the PX, kings were 19 cents and the 100's were 20cents. The good old days.
I remember my Dad sending me to the store with a quarter to get him a pack of Lucky Strikes and I would 5 cents back, I would always buy a candy bar with the change and the candy bars was bigger than the 89 cent ones are today.I was 9 at that time so that would have been 1959.
I think when I started, at age 13, they were .50 a pack or so. When I started buying them myself they were .75 a pack ( I was 16 and a sophomore in High School ). I bought a pack every morning on the way to school. Now they are 5.50 a pack.
I can remember paying .70 a pack. Then again I also remember tobacco companies handing out packs of cigarettes as samples at the county fairgrounds. Nothing ever beat free smokes and the guys handing them out were paid by the crate they handed out so you could just stand there with a bag and take them all.....
