Well, it's like this. Almost everyone who owns a Provari (a regulated mod that's more expensive than most, made in the USA, and known for build quality and reliability) loves it. For some reason, this ruffles the feathers of a lot of other people, and such the wars begin. It's the same as:
Windows vs. Mac
Android vs. iPhone
Xbox vs. Playstation (vs. Nintendo)
Democrats vs. Republicans
Muslims vs. Christians
Ford vs. Chevy
Snap-on vs. Harbor Freight
American cars vs. Japanese cars
And so on, and so on, and so on. That's why.

Sorry - a mod is the battery for your e-cig. There are the little ones like eGos, and then there are the bigger ones (often with replaceable batteries) with more power and features. Provari is made by Provape.

Funny story... I have a provari and can say it has held up for two years. I work outdoors as a lineman and it stays in my pocket. To me an Ecig is a tool to avoid analogs, don't matter what shape color or name brand the function is the same. I've used at least 30 different types of Ecig and find that my beat up tube with the jacked up button and loose 510 (she took a good size fall from about 20 feet from a bucket truck onto grass (provari)) is always there to punch when I need it. I can't speak for a lot of other vv/vw mods (darwin/dna20/dna30/...) but the only one of the 5 used (twist/knock off twist/volcano?/evic/provari) that pushed out what it was set to is the provari. Don't matter if it's under load or without an atty, what you set it too is what you get. Why change what works and why argue (even in a joking matter) about name brands. I love the fact that the community here is strong and full of help and opinions, but just like the post before me, there two sides to every coin, and in the words of Joe Walsh "there's two sides to every story" ( <harmonica fans will enjoy this tune) regardless there is a set up for every user and every budget. If you can afford to smoke you can afford to Vape. I will buy anything that doesn't say it (china) on the box, but made in the USA don't matter at this point. Quality counts and longevity speaks for itself. Of you need 3 egos to get you through a day then buy a 18650 mod, if you want to have some controll on the voltage there's a number of great choices out there. If you want something that's got a lifetime warranty buy a mech from Super t and if you like company's that have quality controll buy from them. There's tons of info and tons of choices, just remember that without competition there's no growth, but we are all here for the same reasons.

"Regulated mods", or regulated APV's (advanced personal vaporizers), are battery devices which regulate the voltage (higher or lower, and also at a constant rate) with a circuit board or micro-computer. Also known as a variable voltage/ variable wattage battery device.
As opposed to a mechanical mod whose voltage is fixed by the battery's voltage output (3.7 volts ave). As the battery is used in a mechanical mod, the voltage drops from a fully charged battery until it is drained, and the vape will gradually diminish along with it.

When I think of "mod" ... I think of something that has been modified by someone, such as putting a larger cam in your car's engine ... you now have a modified (mod) engine ... Someone may ask if you have done any mods to your engine.
I can't see how someone could "mod" a sealed battery on an e-cig?

It's regulated. The next time you drop it, before shoving it all back together, take a look at the circuit board. it's about half an inch long.
Edit: the original "mods" were cobbled together and/or custom built, and the name stuck. People who build them are called modders. You could go out, buy a piece of wood, some parts from radio shack and a couple batteries and make your own e-cig.

It does have a circuit board in it, however crude it may be. It doesn't provide as precise voltage regulation as the higher tier APV's or mods provide, though.
Ego's are in a class of their own. There are the novice cigalikes, the intermediate ego's, and then the APV's. The ego's variable voltage functions are like a dimmer switch for a light.
