Being the HUGE Nerd/Geek that I am, I find this just FANTASTIC!!!!!

{snipped video for space}

I don't get what the video has to do with being a Nerd/Geek? Was it the storm-trooper guys at the beginning? Is it the theme song to a video game?

Yeah, its the game that basically put Microsoft on the map for video game consoles.

holy crud chimpster...i thought you were older for some reason....maybe that means you are "mature" :)

At one point I thought he was older too, but something gave it away (I can't remember what), then I forgot anyway. Everyone online is young and beautiful, except for those we don't like.

here is a lanyard for chelle LOL
the proclip thingie in this video was what the guy at the b&m was wearing his mod on a month or so ago, he was a big islander looking guy too and it made the huge mod look small LOL

Ooookkkk....she can use pliers, how creative. It reminds me of gangsta jewelry.

Hey Nikki! Suck on my lanyard!

Yay! HGTTG. Listened to the radio play, listened to the *original* radio play with the material that didn't make it onto the record, read the books, watched that bloody awful TV series. Even watched the movie, which was somehow weirder than than the original concept. RIP Douglas Adams. I'm afraid Dirk Gently was nowhere near as entertaining as Dent Arthur Dent.

Oh, yes, I bought the game too, but it was for Apple ][e on two 360kb floppies. Terribly disappointed it ended on Magrathea as soon as you figured out how to get out of the spaceship. Actually, I think I came across the game briefly, during my last move but I'm pretty sure it went in the rubbish skip way back then.

I don't use it, but that hadn't occurred to me. You can't use Teflon/non-stick cookware if you have birds anywhere nearby. The fumes released while cooking can kill them.

It's worse with new pans apparently. Once they've been used a few times the teflon stops gassing as much. I think this is the only reason the health authorities haven't come down on them - it's a one-of thing rather than an ongoing hazard.

Food for thought...

"How do they get the teflon to stick to the pan?"

:D

ETA:
I did take the teflon frying pan off Mrs F, you know the one she liked to charcoal the sausages in. Got her a nice cast iron one instead, and the sausages aren't quite as black. (She's an old-school north Queensland girl - sausages aren't cooked until they're black.

Good God that game!! No directions! No hints! Some friends had a copy as well, and we were all stuck on the Babel Fish for weeks. My ex and the other husband are both English, so you can imagine the commentary and erudite swearing that went on as we all paced back and forth trying to figure it out. There were tears of joy the first time someone picked up the mail on a whim. In the end, we never made it passed making tea. We'd get to the Brownian Motion part and the ship would blow up. Over and over and over. Later there was a version released that had hints (or you could buy a book of hints - I don't remember), but by then the magic was gone.

I still remember the first time I heard the radio series. It was the part where the whale was falling. WTFluff? Such was life before the internet. No idea what you are listening to. No way to look it up. Try to ask someone if they know what it is and they look at you like you're insane. I made a point to turn on the radio about that time every week, but it still took awhile before I could even figure out what it was called. I don't think I knew exactly what it was until a couple of years later.

I was in high school when they played the modified vinyl record on the radio, about 5 minutes every day for weeks. It was shortened so that it would fit on two sides of the vinyl and sometimes they replayed so much of the previous days episode that you didn't get any new material. We thought it was the greatest thing. Must have been about 1980.

The Babel fish was pretty hard, but getting out of the spaceship was harder with no hints. There was really no way to figure out how they'd diverged from the original story and what you were supposed to do... then you finally worked out by trial and error where the dangly bit was supposed to go and it was the end of the game.

I guess I am gonna have to watch this show at some point.

Hitch-hikers? There's probably more life in Red Dwarf.

Heh, I think you were actually talking about mod envy?

For the curious and uninitiated, here's the first 8.5 minutes of the HGTTG TV series:

You are thinking the ProVarinati Prefect is unfamiliar with the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy?
