I quit smoking 5 years ago and since then I've ballooned in Weight. Now whether I would have ballooned anyway is anyone's guess.
I was 200lb in April 2009 when I quit smoking and on May 20 2014 I was 285lbs. My Ideal weight should be around 180Lbs. Today July 10 I am 255 Pounds, I've lost approximately 17 pounds per month since being diagnosed with the problem. This is without being Hungry. We'll go into this later.
My first piece of lifesaving advise is that if you are in a Exchange approved program you can have unlimited medical tests done for free once a year. I had over $1000.00 worth of tests done and it cost me nothing out of pocket. They have to be classified as preventative. The way it works is that all tests must be done on the same day and listed as preventative. So my suggestion, go to your Dr and have him order everything under the sun. Especially if you are over 40 years old.
Not to go too deeply into the tests but they showed that I'm experiencing Metabolic Syndrome.
The most important and concerning of all the tests that came back is one called the A1C test. It shows how much sugar is binding to your blood over a 2-3 month period. Mine came in at 6.8 which according to the medical establishment makes me solidly Diabetic [Diabetes 2]. My resting blood sugar was below 90. And my normal blood sugar 3 hours after eating a meal is around 100. So to have that kind of score means that I was averaging 170 as my blood sugar.
The cause of this is that at night I was snacking on sugary high carbohydrate foods going to sleep and while asleep my blood sugar was going through the roof. Also I was eating a lot of unhealthy foods that are high in Carbohydrates.
The Medical Establishments way of looking at it was to put me on Metforin aka GlucoPhage and other prescription drugs. The only problem with this is that Metforin will damage the heart [Arguable]. They want to treat the symptom and not the cause which in the end in many cases just makes people sicker.
My way of looking at it was to question. Am I really Diabetic, or am I showing a symptom which is Diabetes 2 because I'm overweight. I believe that if I lose the weight, change the type of foods I eat [Low Carb with little to no refined sugars] that I'll lose weight [Cause of Problem] and symptoms will go away.
Basically I fired my Dr and went to a ND or Naturopathic Doctor. Second piece of LifeSaving advise. Doctors and Pharmaceutical Companies don't make money from getting you better, they make money from keeping you sick. Your Typical AMA Doctor is in the dark ages where obesity, hormones, and Diabetes are concerned. Prescription Medicine should be your last resort after you've tried everything else.
Now I'd like to qualify the statement. AMA style Medicine has it's place, just not in my situation. I went out and bought a Glucose kit and test strips partially covered by insurance. I determined that on a low carbohydrate diet that my blood sugar is not spiking above 140 which means that on the LifeStyle change I've adapted, I'm in the safe zone. This showed me that it was safe to work on correcting my problem [Overweight]and the symptom [Diabetes 2] with Diet and not at the same time doing harm to myself. If your resting blood sugar were over 150 then that's a totally different story.
I did a lot of investigation and I'd suggest that everyone see this lecture.

This is a respected Endocrinologist and he believes and provides supporting evidence that Fructose which is 1/2 of refined sugar and 55% of High Fructose Corn Syrup is a poison. The one thing I don't agree with him about is that there are some new studies with rats that indicate that High Fructose Corn Syrup is worse than table sugar.
Moving on:
AMA Medical Establishment doesn't believe in low Carbohydrate Diets. So your average Dr won't know how to treat your Diabetes 2
I immediately began a low carbohydrate lifestyle. It's a lifestyle because Diets don't work. I cut my carbs to below 50 per day and have been eating as much and often as I'd like. Even having low Carb snacks in the middle of the night. The pounds keep coming off.
Second pieces of Life Saving Advice metabolic Syndrome, like getting Fat, High Blood Sugar, Diabetes 2, Athersclerosis ... in many individuals is caused by excessive Carbohydrate intake. Fat does not make you fat. Americans have cut there fat from 40% to 30% of the diet since the 70s and all the conditions blamed on eating Fat have continued to rise.
Low Fat foods is the biggest joke ever perpetrated on the gullible American public.

I look forwards to 2 more months when I take my next A1c test and it shows that I am out of the Diabetic range. I should also mention that I had begun showing diabetic symptoms. My feet were swollen, my ankles had bruising and sores on them. Now after 1 month and 1/2 of a low carb diet these symptoms have gone away.
If anyone has more questions for me feel free to PM me.
