umm, the satburn switch is most definitely not an identical design, and lower resistance coils are not a short, (not sure what you mean by that) and should not create a short as long as the switch is designed properly. Im not sure why you are suggesting to to intertwine springs in a properly designed switch in the first place as the current should pass through the plunger and body of the switch rather than the spring, the springs only job should be to return the plunger to its original position. The heat factor you are describing is when the spring heats up due to improper design, basically causing there to be a second coil inside the switch. None of that is an issue on andreas' switch and i think thats what matty was describing.

In all due respect, i designed the button, i know how it works and also have a satburn and yes, it is definitely an identical design. It is a dual grounding (through friction with the screw on bottom cap and the spring) and completes the circuit by making direct contact with the battery when it is depressed. I know this, i invented it almost five years ago and has been adopted by many bottom protruding mechanical mods the world over. Just because it is machined in a different shape, don't let that fool you. It reuses your ela spring and rhodium center contact post, uses an outer screw on shield that the button passes through and completes the circuit through the exact same electrical path. I said Lower resistance coils are "essentially" a short as the lower in resistance you go, the more amperage draw placed on a battery and the more heat that is generated, and YES, coils have become so low, they are simulating a short, some setups drawing 20,30, 40+ amps on these small batteries.

Would the use of magnets alleviate the problem ?

No, the problem isn't the contact to battery connection. The problem is the ultra low resistance coils generate a lot of current, any resistance in the system creates heat build up. Telescoping mods are more susceptible to this as they have more electrical junctions the returning current has to pass through and each junction is a point of resistance. Contrary to what the previous poster asserts, the button was designed to be dual grounding through the spring and friction (its why mechanical mods came about, for a mechanical way of completing the circuit) With these ultra low resistance coils, heat can build up and adding a second spring increases the amperage it can carry. Cleaning the critical electrical junctions also helps, any corrosion that is building up creates resistance, resistance equals heat. I'll be doing up a video this week detailing how we freshen up each and every mod that gets returned to us for or lifetime refinish warranty.

I set up my P+ Strata this morning. Dual long hemispherical coils, each 6 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal over 2mm OD Ekowool, approximately .4 total ohms. It was very easy to build. It's also a stupendous vape, though I needed to back off from it with a Tanbur! Most certainly the hugest clouds I've ever produced, the throat hit is just where I like it (with the Tanbur :) ) and the flavor and draw is of course amazing.

For my tastes it's too much though, not being used to or desiring that much power. If I make a similar build in the future I'll shoot for more tameness. :)

:pIt looks a lot like basilray's in the build thread. I'll see if I can get a picture though.

Edit: Nothing fancy.

Oh, and now it dawned on me why you couldn't picture it. I meant semicircular, not hemispherical. :p

Well, I've had a couple hot button/sticking issues with my über-manly 43 watt dual coil. Decided that's über-uneccessary so I got in there with my toenail nippers and cut out half of it.

It's just as good. ;)
I'm quoting my own three posts to gather them in one spot.

My P+ Strata is performing so beautifully with the above setup. It really makes me wonder whether the problems some people have, real or theoretical, are a result of overthinking.

Once I removed the second coil the setup is about as simple as simple gets, the only differences from what I usually do are that the coil wraps are more widely spaced along the wick resulting in a wrapped coil length of right around 6mm (1/4") and I used a wire gauge which gave me a lower ohm than I was accustomed to. A nice simple straight piece of coil which I attached and then formed into a little semicircle contained just within and just above the deck, using my finger and a little screwdriver to get the shape and position where I wanted it. So simple.

Doing the same thing twice resulted in the initial dual version, which was mind-bogglingly awesome but also superfluous for my tastes and unnecessarily on the border of safety for my 18490.

I think that the issues that some are having are simply a matter of adjusting to the learning curve. Let's be honest here, everyone had issues when starting RBAs. We would do the same thing over and over in the exact same way, and the results would be the same. Then all of a sudden, something clicks and performance does a complete 180. Why would people expect it to be any different for this new RDA design?!? My first few Ophion attempts were not great, and that is why I made my own variation of the coil. Well, after the flame war that went on in the build thread, I decided to have another go at the Ophion. Results: vapor production was noticeably better than my variant of the Ophion!!! I have no idea what I did differently this time around. All I can say is that it is vaping like a dream.

Earlier this week, I took my 500Ti + Strata to my local shop so that all the guys there could take a test drive. They loved it so much that they literally burnt my cotton (hence the rebuild). My advice, if you don't have the Strata yet, please refrain from making judgements. If you do have your Strata but have yet to get a good vape, then keep trying because it performs extremely well once you've figured it out.

My only complaint is that I did experience arcing yesterday. This was not something that any of us experienced during beta, but I can see why arcing can occur in this design. But all is well when you use a standard 510 drip tip. Plus, David has already said that he will remedy this issue.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I get what youre saying, but isn't calling andreas' switch an identical design kind of like saying that all pinky switches are the same exact design? I dont think that's true by any means.... If what I said sounded offensive I apologise... what I meant was that the sat switch works better for its intended purpose since it doesn't use the spring as part of the circuit and shaves off a bit of voltage drop (which really isn't the fault of the switch in the first place as most of it resides in the knurled tele-tube ring but that's a different conversation entirely) Also while I most definitely beleive that drawing 40 plus amps out of one of these batteries is a bad idea (unless you like the idea of bloody stumps and a fine red mist, lol), it still can be done without creating a short as long as the mod is designed for current to flow properly and all of the contacts clean... the only thing I can think of would be the switch arcing which usually only happens in a properly designed switch if a plunger badly needs to be cleaned or if the turner got the tolerances a bit off.

Personally I'm still a huge superT fan at heart, i still think the precise/p+ was one of the most innovative things to ever come out and one of my all time favorite mods, I wont go into it further but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth after the whole shockwave thing and i havent gotten anything super T since then, but I still continue to be a fan and will always be watching your other projects in the meantime. On the other hand I'm not the type to hold back any negative (or positive for that matter) criticism when it's warranted, these are expensive mods (and atty too, now) after all. Also I wasn't trying to start a poo-throwing contest, just I thought what matty said was a legitimate complaint that kind of got swept under the rug there

also correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the GG slim around before that? I'm also almost positive that imeo made the other (super freaking rare, lol) bottom switched GG's long before even that (the bottom-switched ones, not the side-pinky ones)? Again i may be wrong but I remember quite a few bottom switched mods from different modders around that exact same time and even before that... with all of the hobby people and garage-modders around that time i don't really think it's possible to say who invented the concept of having the switch on the bottom of a mod as its just a logical conclusion many people arrived at when designing a mod and thinking about where to put the switch.

Build thread closed. That is depressing. :(

We have people we know, and trust, telling us the Strata works. I choose to believe them.

I will be the first to admit, it is hard for this old cat, to learn new tricks. But, with encouragement and guidance, I can do so. If it wasn't for some of you guys, I would still be using my AVAs. I would have missed out, on the fun and excitement of RBAs/RDAs. You know who you are. :)

Lets get these threads, where they need to be. I am really not interested in, how we 'can't'. I want to hear, about how we 'can'.

Now, that does not mean some of us won't post our 'struggles', and ask for help. After all, that's why we are 'family'. :)

Yes, thank you. This is my first super t purchase, I'm a provari man myself. I've used my v1 exclusively until I got my mini v2. I now use that one exclusively with my Zap, and I've got an era clone on my v2 mini. It took me a while to nail down the ZAP, but it really delivers better flavor (and slightly less vapor) than my RSST. Now that I have the strata, my first build was an unbelievable vape.

I'm not sure why there's drama from some folks, but in the end it won't matter. Once folks start figuring this beast out, there'll be a little bit of crawfishin'. I will say that if you purchase from Super t, you should be prepared for one whopper of a wait. I ordered my precise simplicity on the 30th of January, and I've had the strata for almost 2 weeks without being able to use it. This may be acceptable to some folks, but for myself, I'd like to see more accurate lead times posted on the site.

In the end, I feel like I spent my hard earned cash wisely, on an American product. If I have to wait another 2 weeks I will. I'll be super ......, but I won't cancel my order after seeing and feeling how incredible the strata is. Ymmv as always. For those who already have a strata and matching device, I hate you. Lol! For those who are still waiting for an undetermined period of time, hang in there! It'll be worth the ridiculous wait.

Same here! I ..... and moan sometimes when I don't get stuff fast. But that doesn't mean that I'm mad at the company. They do the best they can and deliver the highest quality product around! I will wait as long as it takes to have the best.

I will not defend the 'wait' times. That is a whole different issue.

However, I will defend the products. All products, I have received from Super-T, have exceeded any expectations I had. If that had not been the case, I would not have ordered seven Stratas.

Seven stratus means you have seven devices to put them on.... Well done! Like I said, the strata blows me away in build quality. This is coming from a trim carpenter who does most things by hand. Art I tell you, art. I just hate seeing some of the things I've seen in the build thread. Nuff said from me, I don't talk much unless I have something important to say.

Unscrewing the top cap relative to the atty base opens up the airflow, but airhole placement relative to the actual coils is key. Use the engraved "P" to visualize where your coils are and rotate the cap accordingly. I've found that the coils need to be centered vertically in relation to the deck of the atty base. Best o' luck!

I'm in 100% agreement Cucco...Super-T's products are top notch. My 2.5 devices (have a Blemished Ti tube) just plain work, and are very well built. That's the biggest reason to me why the whole shipping deal has bothered me so much-if I wasn't a fan of the hardware, waiting would be much easier. I'm hoping they can adapt and get their logistics/shipping/lead times straightened out/sped up...it will only benefit the customer and Super-T.

I just got my Strata ( it was a very nice surprise)

Im lost as to how to build it. I tried a couple traditional coils and wicks and failed. I also cant seem to close the top cap without a large gap. I didnt realize that is part of the adjustable air flow. It is extremely airy but I can tighten it up. I will wait for some tutorials. I dont want to have to build that Ophion thing, but will if that is the only way. I passed on Genesis types because its too much work and the vape was too hot and harsh , not worth the effort to get a good build.

I got flooding with the Strata and then I got burned dry hits. When it was working better it was too much TH for me. Im sure its me thats not understanding it. I will keep trying.

Hi Anavidfan, I'll be reopening the build thread here in a bit and I and others can help you with some builds that will work for you.

Please reread my post, i explained in detail why the satburn is the same design so i am not going to argue your regurgitation of the same flawed premise. Also, no, it is well documented on the forums that the Super T-1(unveiled in the spring of 2009) is the first bottom protruding all mechanical button that makes direct contact with the battery negative to complete the circuit and was approximately 6 months before the GG slim and even longer before most all other designs that adopted this switch type.

In rereading your posts and your post history and sign up date, i now see that you are just trolling. Time for you to move on sir, thankyou.
