Is mech/unregulated more enjoyable?

Totally off topic but...

Have you become more handsome?
Nice avi :thumb:

Edit; or is it exactly the same and I’m just losing my marbles?
Well, you're right and you're wrong. First off, the German Shepherd was Hannah Belle Lechter....there's no such thing as more handsome. She was perfect.

This is Riley. She is a Shepherd/Lab mix that I felt obligated to rescue. She's growing up to be a fine frisbee dog but she's lacking in common sense. She'll fit right in.

I found the plastic tubes some fizzy tablets come in do the job well. If that look is too cheap - there's cigar tubes, going from those some cigars come in to full silver ones.
Gadget cases, even cases for diabetic kit's and what not work well.

She’s beautiful.
I thought your last pic wasn’t a dog.
I have a ridiculously poor memory.

I can’t remember the German Shepherd but it is one of my favourite breeds along with the Rottweiler and my dear friend Bruno (red setter)
I wouldn’t have been so dismissive if I’d have remembered :thumb:

As long as one understands the basics of a mech , uses a good mech, and uses good batterys, I think it's definitely worth trying. I think it adds a bit of knowledge and another important aspect of vaping , especially rebuilding. You gain a certain experience and understanding on how resistance works for a specific vape . Today it's all completely opposite of how it was 7 years ago when I started in the rebuildable game, then you really only had mechs and no such thing as drop in coils, so it all was truly rebuilding. A genny and a mech taught you alot and gave you a certain respect that seemed important, now it's just set it and forget it pretty much and so much easier and perhaps a bit safer.

If vaping is a hobby for you, at some point you will want a mech, just to develop more skills, and just for the enjoyment.
I look at vaping more as a means to an end, and have primarily regulated stuff, and not many of those. I am a no-hassle vaper most of the time, and regulated mods are great, for all the reasons given above.
I have a Pulse squonker for when I feel like messing with gear. Mostly, though, I am lazy, and coils and wicks are enough of a chore.:D
As always, YMMV, and it wouldn't be any fun if we were all the same!:)
If you have the safety part well in hand, go for what makes ya happy.

The biggest difference is simple.

One makes the news with people hospitalized or dead over "mistakes".

And I love that they always say: "I know what I'm doing, been doing it for years."

Same applies to chain saws, band saws, and circular saws. One day, they might bite you if you get distracted. If you keep your mind on what you are doing and work safely life will probably be good.

I've never spent that much time with a mech. I skipped from Joye 510 and eGo to Kayfun and Provari V2. Just observing here. I do still have an 18350 box mech mod left, but it lost it's glimmer quickly.

A button fuse/breaker is a good idea for safety.

Oh, I agree more than you realize.

Trouble is, so many scenarios that reminds me of the "hold my beer and watch this"....attitude.

Just look at the many many threads about new members that go "I want to try/get into mechs so what do I do?".

This screams to me that this person didn't take any time looking up even the basics, that they aren't suited to even touch one, nor should they. Mechs, just like power tools aren't toys, they are volatile devices with a huge risk factor that is downplayed by many because "I've been doing it for years.. I know what I'm doing".. until they don't and they finally have the accident that was going to happen in time simply because they might have read about ohm's law but do not truly understand it nor all the other aspects or possibilities or things that can go wrong.

Yes, I'm blunt about it, and my point had been proven more than once in threads where a few mech users would argue about how "safe" they are, and as the discussion continued, they let it slip that they've vented their batteries (some more than once)... and yet, they continued the "I know what I'm doing" attitude.

Then the whole "mechs are more solid and less parts / no electronic to fail".. hell, I've seen more posts about someone's mech's button, pins or other part that broke than I hear regulated mods breaking down (aside SMOK)

Others have stated the "why" regulated mods aren't what they used to be, and that they truly are superior in so many ways.

To me, mechs remind me of the wannabee middle-age crisis person that gets a Harley motorcycle to be cool, and 9/10 accidents with motorcycles I see are these people... and when you see them at the corner struggling to take off, struggling to stop, struggling to turn a corner... that absolutely reminds me of a perfect example of something that someone does thinking that they are "cool" but are actually the very opposite of it and are nothing but an accident that's waiting to happen.

Someone can study up on ohms law and basic battery safety, learn building etc.and still feel like asking this question..

There's nothing about this question that screams "hold my beer and watch this".

Hold my beer and watch this types come in with a mech when they've never vaped before, with a coil some friend 'gave' them that they have no idea how many ohms it is, and batteries they have no udea where they came from or what the ratings on it are and want to start asking dumb questions like "why am I not blowing huge clouds?"

If you talk to this OP he seems a decent and intelligent person who has done some research and has been vaping, this thread was just a simple question he wanted to ask of people who've used both a regulated and a mechanical mod..

Mech users are wannabes? We're suffering from a middle age crisis and we're just trying to be cool? Are you kidding me? What a ridiculously judgemental assessment. Not to mention, completely wrong. Good Lord .

You misunderstand.. I'm talking about the types that want to do mechs because they think it's cool, without reading, learning, and come and want everything spoon fed to them, and don't have the proper respect for it.

But if you're offended so easily...

Again, I'm talking about the ones that want to jump onto the bandwagon for the "cool" thing.. and that was not targeting the OP whatsoever.

Edit: just wanted to add, I make clear references to the type of people that do the "I know what I'm doing" but end up on the news when well... they didn't. For those that do know.. then they shouldn't get offended my my post, they should support it. A newbie that wants to get into mechs should do his homework, and then more homework, then ask questions to ensure that they have it right..

But are you going to tell me that someone that comes in here and ask "what ohms can I do on my mech" has done their homework?

I misunderstood your reasoning.. since your comment was in this thread and reasonably vague it was an easy misunderstanding to have.

I use both daily, for beginners I to recommend a regulated mod. Also with the 18650s in a mechanical there was battery fall of but you had a sweet spot in the battery the produced a unbeatable vape. With the newer 20700 and the newest 21700 batteries you notice little fall off in the mid subohm range, many times I have dropped past 3.2v on the battery and still have great flavor and vape. So what I'm getting at with the newer batteries it's really becoming a toss up for performance, safety the regulated may have a edge with a less skilled vaper, but durability hands down the mech takes it.

no problem.. I was replying to DaveP that was comparing it to power tools..

I'd say the same thing.. don't buy a power tool and assume that it's going to be easy and safe when you don't even read the manual, get the proper knowledge and accessories such as safety boots/shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc. and then think you can cut that tree down like a pro..

there's plenty of those videos going around...LOL.

Offended? Nope....I generally consider the source before getting offended. It was a just stupid post.

If you think the uninformed vaping stuntmen are all using mechs, well, you're as misguided as they are. Furthermore, if you're that afraid of a mechanical mod, by all means, don't use one. It's pretty obvious you consider yourself the authority on all things vape related, and that's fine by me. The judgemental scare posts are a little over the top though. Again, if you're not comfortable with a mech, don't use one. It seems to me, the op was asking if they actually gave a better vape....I don't recall him asking for a ridiculous anti mech, anti new guy slam post.

Just to add, part of my perspective on mechs is that for every one that blows up and gets on the news.. it fodders the anti-vaping crowd.

I simply hate seeing people that have the attitude that promotes that sort of accident... I'd rather stop someone using a mech if that will prevent an accident. Some people (and that's a lot of people) aren't inclined mechanically, but want to get into something and not understand or respect the risks that could be involved.

I know that there's a lot of people that have been using mechs just fine, and that's great... it's the ones that shouldn't be using them.. and yes, the same applies to people driving, somehow they got their licenses becuase they managed to passa very limited basic test, but are a hazard to themselves and others regardless.

Yup.. offended.

And if you read my follow-ups you'd see that I'm not "anti-mech", but anti-not doing it right and have the wrong attitude about it.

And again, it wasn't directed to the OP.

If you want to see my post as "anti-mech".. have fun with that, but I'd rather speak out about the risk factor, making it very clear that one should NOT use a mech unless they do their homework, understand everything about it very well before even buying one.

Now THAT actually makes sense and is pretty much what we all said already. Do the homework first... There were a bunch of posts warning people against diving in the deep end before learning as much as they can .

Have you forgotten about the realeaux burning up in the guys pocket at a mall kiosk? The smok meltdowns or ego charging fires? Hell, my wife's double barrel started auto firing just sitting on a coffee table and had to be thrown into the backyard.

It can happen with anything .

I understand where your coming from... but at the same time going off on all this in a thread none of your points apply to, does make it seem your anti - this person using a mech.

That said, these things can be learned. I'm NOT mechanically inclined.

The first time my car broke down and I couldn't afford a mechanic, I had to figure out what part might be broken, buy that part from the parts store and then use the new part to even find the part on my car to remove it and replace it.

It took me 5 hours to replace that part, and it was a starter... lol. All the guys in the neighborhood got out lawn chairs and the beer cooler and WATCHED me fix my car from the house across the street as if I was the television show of the day... I guess my attempt was comedic or something..

While successful, I was a bumbling idiot through it all. I am decidedly not mechanical.

ALSO, I didn't go into any of the STEM fields for good reason.. me, I'm all logic all the time and poor in the math and sciences..

Yet even I can learn all that is required to learn to operate a mech as safely as possible.

You cannot just blanket judge people, even people who are not normally mechanically inclined can manage to learn.

And both Wismec and SMOk are two brands that I will never recommend... so that's actually funny/sad in itself.

And heck, I've had one mod that started auto-firing (I was hearing something behind me hissing - and turned around to see my mod firing by itself).. considering that I have/had about 8 more of the exact same mod and I bough more.since... and never a single issue with any of the other ones, it's a case that with regulated (decent ones) it's really a case of bad luck that one does have issues, no different from a cell phone, TV, car, etc. being a lemon... they just happen.

But that said, the odds of a defective unit is one thing.. user error is another.

With mech, the odds of user error against mechanical failure is fairly high, with regulated mods, one needs to really screw something up really badly for user error to cause a bad situation, with mech, just a single little thing/mistake can cause a lot worse.

Sadly, every time any bad story hits the news, it feeds the machine.
