Just curious... Why "e-cigarette" in the title?

Cigarettes have nothing to do with vaping, so what were you thinking? Using the term "e-cigarette" may be causing more harm to vaping than any one leftwing politician in Washington DC ever could.

Please support the vaping community by editing the title of this forum.

Did you realize even the term "vaping" was decided on here on the e-cigarette forum?

See, this was the very first website discussing electronic cigarettes when they first came out and has done everything for vaping, including establishing the name

So no, they shouldn't change their name and damn sure they arent harming vaping - what have you done for vaping? Have you given vaping a voice like this forum has? Have you established advocacy groups to lobby for the industry? Have you created a place where people can learn the truth about vaping?

I really doubt that the name of the forum is going to destroy the e-cigarette/vaping industry. The two terms are interchangeable, and ECF comes up very high on searches for vaping, I really exceptionally doubt that the owner of this forum would enjoy doing that all over again. Especially since not only would it take time and effort it would slow traffic to a site that helps smokers quit smoking.

I actually prefer the term "E-cig" over vaping, personally. I find it to be more friendly, it's actually called that, although vaping is a legitimate alternative, there is this thing called "synonym."

If you think changing the forum name will halt the, ah, political "progress" or "witch hunt" toward vaping, I fear for your safety and wellbeing, because that is kind of a naiive idea.

Also, if ECF has THAT kind of power, I'm moving to England and buying out the site owner. Okay, so I have to sell a kidney to do it?????? Still worth it, I would love to wield the socioeconomic power and status.

I jest. I would actually hate to have that kind of power and would be just as likely to misuse it as every other politician in existence or so it seems to me.

You either want "influence" or you don't. I actually don't. But I'm voting "downtwinkles" to your effort.

You must watch the downtwinkles video for an example of "excellent activism" if you have not!!!!!!

This video withstands all tests of time and is a lesson for the earnest everywhere. I can't stop laughing every time I watch it!!!

Ah well, the first recorded instance of anyone calling using an e-cigarette 'vaping' was on this site about ten years ago :) So technically we did influence that particular one, a little bit.

According to this guy the term was coined back in the 70's/80's:

Here's an article from February 18th of 1980. The article mentions that Dr. Norman L. Jacobson calls it vaping, then the article itself refers to it as vaping, and the date can be seen at the bottom right. I made small red marks to make this easy to see:

Yet when people began vaping in 2007, people didn't know what to call it and terms were thrown around for ideas..(some people were calling it smoking, others wanted a more appropriate term). there was a thread on it but with the forum change I cannot find it now... it was in one of the earliest threads on this forum where it was discussed.

There was a huge disconnect between the 1970's and when vaping actually began... 30 years.

Cigarettes have EVERYTHING to do with vaping, and the desire to switch to something less harmful.

Here's Oliver's first post in the thread:

"E-smoking" is a bit of a handful, "Misting" sounds far too fey, "Vaporizing" or "Vaping" has drug connotations.

There must be a better word for my new hobby! Suggestions?

    Oliver, Dec 17, 2007

So, from his post, the term "vaping" was around before that.

The term vaping was used a tiny bit at that time, perhaps as sporadic as "misting"... e-smoking was more generally used back then. And yes, it was on this site that the term vaping was normalized as what to call it. By 2008- 2009 everyone was calling it vaping.

I think you would have found that the term was already in use by certain cultures at the time. Not really something that is supposed to be discussed on this forum.

Hence why the first vapers wanted nothing to do with the term in the beginning...

Hell I was scared to death the first year I vaped... I used to carry a bottle of factory made ejuice with me that was clearly labeled so I didn't end up in jail waiting for my juice to get tested for drugs due to a stupid cop somewhere...

Granted, calling it vaping by then was normal, but it does have drug connotations and people who wanted to use it to quit smoking cigarettes didn't want the confusion so much so e-smoking was the more normal term...

LOL, no kidding. At least I can carry my stuff around now without getting a second look. Although I was bothered on a work break weeks ago by a scruffy looking young woman who misinterpreted what I was doing with my Joyetech Elitar e-pipe. I do live in Northern California though.

IF somebody decided to change the name of this forum, NOTHING will change.
E-cigarette is not a name, it's a term/concept. You can't change the name of a term "just like that".
It has nothing to do with the name of this forum.
