The vendors love the vaping will soon be banned threads because those not addicted rush to fill their freezers with non addictive nicotine...
Yea, it just keeps the hands busy putting all that nic into the deep freeze. Screwing off tops, pouring the nic into amber glass bottles, screwing on tops etc.

Nicotine is addictive in cigarettes when it is in combination with other things such as MAOIs.
Nicotine by itself, not so much.

The changes to your brain caused by the combination of these things do not suddenly disappear when you stop smoking.

It never fails to astound me that some people are unable to comprehend this.

http://www.jneurosci.org/content/25/38/8593.full
Nicotine is the major neuroactive compound of tobacco, which has, by itself, weak reinforcing properties. It is known that levels of the enzymes monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and MAO-B are reduced in the platelets and brains of smokers and that substances, other than nicotine, present in tobacco smoke have MAO-inhibitory activities.

In and of it's self pure nicotine has a significantly low addiction potential.
However, when combined with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, the addiction profile skyrockets.

"It seems very safe even in nonsmokers," "In our studies we find it actually reduces blood pressure chronically. And there were no addiction or withdrawal problems, and nobody started smoking cigarettes. The risk of addiction to nicotine alone is virtually nil."

"There is very little to no evidence for the abuse of nicotine when not delivered in a tobacco vehicle."

"Studies have shown that none of the nicotine replacement therapies - chewing gum, inhalers, patches - none of those are addictive. Nicotine is not addictive. The cause of addiction is the release of monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or MAOIs, along with nicotine."

Emeritus Professor of Psychology, ASU

My opinion that nic is addictive is just as valid as a hack scientist's opinion backed up by his bogus studies. I find it comical that some believe this stuff wrote....like it must be ordained fact because the schmuck is a doctor or a professor. All they do is shape research around what they believe or what they are trying to debunk. Zero credibility to me.

Gone are the days of being unbiased in a professional setting. This goes for doctors as well as reporters and most every other profession in between.

Which is odd when you compare this to the younger generations penchant for seeing indiscriminate-ness as a moral imperative.

Downright backwards even.

What, you mean studies paid for by the makers of nicotine gum can't be trusted?

I think smoking is probably one of the most addictive habbits in the world. Not just the ingrediants but the actual ceremony of smoking, hand-to mouth, coffee/tea, a break, lunch-time, after meals, the Pub/bar, having a beer, drink, etc, etc.

Although I am fairly new to vaping, I can easily see, this can also be extremely addictive ( although not dangerous as such), all the LOVELY gear, new products, testing this and that. Its not just vaping its the whole ceremony around vaping, almost becoming cult-like.

and people think nic is addictive..... try going cold turkey with ECF :)
About 30% of smokers become dependent on smoking. That means roughly 70% do not.
about 50% of smokers quit between the ages of 30 to 40 years old on their own with
no or very little discomfort. The roughly 50% of the remaining smokers fall into 3 category's.
Social smokers, ritual smokers and dependent smokers. These category's are not exclusive
of each other. One could be all three.

Took me two weeks to stop unconsciously grabbing for my cigs and ashtray everytime I sat down at the computer. :) I had been totally vaping during those weeks with no smoking at all. Took another wk or two to stop finding the ashtray to put bits and pieces picked up from the floor, table, lint from clothes, etc. Ha!

Well, I'm not going to sit here and argue one way or the other as to what is addictive in cigarettes. I just know that is an addiction that is difficult to break. At least, for me, it has been. Been smoking for 40 years and before starting to vape, was at 2 packs a day. I've been vaping a year now, and I STILL can't seem to leave the cigarettes alone. I'm at 1/2 pack a day and I'm struggling STILL. Something in those doggone things has me hooked.

and BTW why is "cold turkey" used as a phrase to indicate one has ceased a habit in an immediate state???
did someone give up warm juicy steaks by eating cold turkey?
It's called that because the cold sweats associated with abstaining from alcohol bring to mind the skin of a chilled oven-ready turkey. Alcohol is one of the only two drugs that are physically addictive. You can actually die if you quit drinking too fast.
