Wheew! Thank goodness ..... I was starting to get nervous there.

Yes, let's go with that, that works quite nicely.![]()

I found for heavy chain vaping 325 works really well for me.Even using 80pg/20VG.Still having a few problems with coil shorting to wicks.Have a B torch hear on island have to get it cleared by customs now.Chinner hope you keep your Kat.When you get then dialed in they are awesome.Keep it for a while longer and keep trying. You just never know.
Temptinggg, but I'd need to balance the lack of vp with some 28 awg kanthal
Why is it that the bigger the holes on the mesh, the less vapor? Considering they 325 wicks so much better, wouldn't you expect the greater availability of juice to also correlate with great amounts of vapor?
You might, but what makes the vapor visible is that it reflects light. #400 mesh makes the most vapor and least TH because it creates the smallest sized droplets.
#325 wicks faster because the bigger holes, but these bigger holes create bigger vapor droplets so the refract less light because there are fewer droplets in the same amount of juice. The increase in TH is because there are bigger droplets hitting your throat on inhale. We've all had that bit of juice in our mouths from some flooded something or other.... think of how that affected your throat and you know why bigger droplets mean more TH.
#300 then will have even more effect on VP and TH. Fewer but larger droplets means less but larger vapor droplets and therefore evan more pronounced TH.
I have tested all of the mesh counts above and can tell you with absolute certainty that these effects are true and reproducible every time
You like to go with hotter coils too. This works very well with #300 mesh as it can get lots of juice to the coil.![]()
Very interesting, thanks for posting such a well informed explanation! Next time I need to reup on mesh, I'll be sure to snag some.
Also, do you think 300 would work better for vaping a genesis at 6v? I've been strongly considering wrapping a 36g kanthal-d coil, but I don't think 400 or 325 can supply enough juice to the coil without it drying out and popping.
It might depending on the coil. I've seen some coils wrapped at 2 coils (dangerously low resistance IMO) work with #300 mesh, but this was on a tank over coil genisis so it was being fed by both capillary action and gravity. It may work with the way you tip up your APV when you vape. It does hold alot of juice too so if you worry about not having enough juice you can make a thicker wick, it will keep up.
I did it with a mesh roll that was 3/4" wide so it was almost solid with just a very small hole in the middle and actually had a hard time keeping enough heat on it to perform well with a 4 wrap coil @ 3.7v so I think in practice you could probably do a 6V setup with #300 mesh, just make sure you use good batteries. We don't want to see you vaping on the end of a fireball!!![]()
I'm always careful when it comes to stacking batts, have no fear. I only use AWs, I keep my batts marked in pairs so they always have the same internal resistance and number of cycles on em, and I always test the voltage of each batt b4 stacking. 2 wraps wouldn't be dangerous though! I'm guessing that it'd be somewhere around 0.6-0.9Ω, which means 4-6 amp draw on the batts, so AW IMR 18650s are more than enough to keep up with that kind of current (6 amps is pushing it though.....).
The only problem with that low resistance and a battery that can supply the current without blowing is that it can very easily light the juice up in the vapor chamber. Tastes bad and you have to clean it all up after that, lol.
Damn, I've never had that happen and I've experimented with 2 wrap coils! I bet it's especially likely with juices that have alcohol added to them like COV butterscotch. Also, I've been vaping a 1.8ohm coil in my ody at 7.4v (4.1A/30.42W) all week without any problems like you described, but I know that adding ss mesh to the equation changes things.
Gotcha, that makes sense. Well I ordered some 30 awg kanthal to mess with, I'll post pics/vids of my results when it arrives and I have it installed in one of my hybrids.
Well I got 100', so I can probably mail you some if you're interested!
