ok here is the new coil. wrapped and wicked
View attachment 279782
what u all think? its half the size of the other one also measured out at 1.4ohm

It's hard to say, but the shoulders on each side of the coil still look a little too big. Hard to gauge from the pictures though.

Edit: Late again. Not only did you some good advice, but they're fast typers too lol. I'm glad it's working better for you.

ok took your advice and tore it down AGAIN and replaced the wick. pulled it from side to side moves freely but not too lose. the sides look big because i am not rolling it to keep fluffy, when i tear it down the cotton does get thinner on the shoulders once juice gets on them. when i pulled the last wick out (the one in the pic above) it was tough to pull out so too tight.

Yep... you should be able to pull out, even a wet wick, with not much more resistance than when it went in. If you can distort the coil pulling it out, it's too much.

There was a guy a few months ago... we finally figured out, was taking a pretty good size cross-section of cotton, and rolling it real tight to get it in a coil. Once it was described to him that the piece you start with before compressing and rolling should be about 6mm-8mm across rather than 16mm-18mm... his problems went away. ;-)

I would like to see a picture of the proper sized amount of cotton rolled and wicked. Please.

Sounds like I'm using too much also...based on the statement not to distort the coil when replacing the wet wick. Usually my coil moves and bends a little when removing the old cotton...and I have to readjust it.

Unless someone wants to take 3-4 photos of cotton for you... don't hold your breath.
(Of course, minutes after I post this, someone will post 27 different views of... a piece of cotton )

I don't have a camera, so... I'm going to describe this as if you have no method of measuring anything (because who knows what you do or don't have)... but I am assuming that you have some Q-tips. Everyone has Q-tips, right? So, everything in "increments of Q-tip".

For a 3/32" ID coil... starting with a relatively flat piece removed from an "unrolled" (yes, they unroll ;-)) cotton ball, with a starting width roughly that of two Q-tip heads and a thickness of a Q-tip shaft... with lightly dampened fingers, rolled down to, about the diameter of a Q-tip shaft.

Now... that may not sound like much to start with and maybe even a bit thin... but that's relatively dry, and compressed. Once it's in the coil and wet - well, you know. :p

(Forgot to mention... a Q-tip shaft, is about .003" less than 3/32")

This is such a great thread! Thanks for all of the tips everyone! I have been having the opposite problem with my KFL+, gurgle city!!! I actually had to add more cotton and open up the airflow a little. That has really improved my vape. I think because we all vape a little differently, we have to adjust our builds to the way we vape. I generally like a tighter draw, but had to open it up a little to get the KFL+ to not gurgle. Bon chance everyone with your builds! Isn't rebuilding awesome/frustrating/delicious/amazing!!!

Great description!!!
If you say so blake - Considering I'm in a hospital bed drugged to the gills right now, and just having a bit of fun with Mobile Guy - you must have some previous experience with measurement in "minute of Q-Tip"... and I'm not quite as delirious as first thought. ;-)

(If everyone who plays with rebuildables and battery mods would just buy a damn DMM and digital caliper... the world would be a better place

LOL! Yea, well busting out the digital calipers for measurement of cotton just seems a bit overboard too, no? :)

I'll have to say that this is right about how much cotton I'm using for my 3/32nd build & it beats taking pic's & posting on the forum, as it was a good description with a quick point of reference:)...

Hope the hospital stay is pleasant, drugged to the guilds, definitely is a start I guess!!

Got my very first Kayfun being the KFL+ and have not, ever, had a dry hit on it. I moist the cotton and tuck it against the chamber walls. That beast wicks perfectly. Had a bit of issues with gurgle on my first builds as it was a completely different system compared to what I was used to (RDAs). However, last 8 builds have been flawless, best damn flavor I've yet had. It even surpassed dripping rebuildables, and that's pretty much because of the way the chamber is made extremely compressed. Even the drip tip helps. Throat hit is intense. Again, flavor, damn, it just feels as if juice was spilling out of the drip tip. There isn't a single other feeding device out there (list any genesis, RDA, I'm not going to mention carto tanks or clearomizers as they are not on the same league) that has given me the quality vape this thing gives (mind you, the Russian 91% gives just as good of a vape as the KFL+ IMHO, even the clones do). I couldn't be happier, vape nirvana.

Sorry to hear about the hospital State, tell em keep the drugs coming and get well soon!

Thanks for the description, I'll have to reread that next time I change the wick, I've been using cotton yarn and not having any dry hits, no flooding, no gurgle, wicks great, I've even changed flavors and after the first few hits with old flavor then, BAM! New flavor.

Mine is a kayfun 3.1 es clone....and it has been outstanding for me, filling is a breeze from the top holding the air hole and flipping upside down method... no leaking, it's like a pro tank in that respect...fill and vape.

Only reason I asked about the cotton, someone said when removing the old wet wick it shouldn't disturb the coil... well mine does...yes even the yarn.... I have unrolled a cotton ball when we started using cotton balls, no I didn't know they unroll before that :) but the yarn setup is so quick and easy, I've been lazy and just using it. Now I'm wondering if I use the right amount of cotton ball if the vape would get better? :D it's amazing now, but if I made it better - maybe it would regrow my hair! OMG wouldn't that be awesome! ? Then I'd only be overweight :p (I'd do anything to lose weight except exercise and eat right)

Feel better bro!

There's a possibility that you don't have a real tight seal and I'd suggest checking it next time you have it empty. Just block the air hole, take out the drip tip and apply a lot of suction to the mouth piece. If it isn't too hard to pull a little air through, it makes it dicey to get a good build that wicks without flooding. It may not be your problem but just takes a few seconds to test anyway.

dam i wish i were you. i tucked, i bent, i stuffed, made the wicks short, made the long still cant get it to where its consistent and not give off a nasty flavor have 2 or 3 drags. even the first 2-3 drags are sub par. really starting to get frustrated.
