I don't think anything wrong with it popping and crackling. Not getting enough flavor yet tho. Going to set up my other Kayfun with cotton and see how that liquid does.
What voltage are you using? It usually takes a few hits with a new coil/wick before the flavor pops, but after that, if it doesn't happen then something's wrong.

2Ω is higher resistance than most use with a cotton micro coil on kayfun. If you have some 28 gauge, try a 10 wrap on the same 5/64" for 1.5Ω.

How's your coil positioned over air hole? They say too high = less flavor. Right now, I've got mine so I can just see light between the coil and the air hole.

I'm going to redo it right now. I want around 1.5Ω on both my kfl's

Lets see how this one does. 28g 13 wraps 2mm rivet IMG_20140501_193426_862-2.jpgIMG_20140501_193607_364-1.jpg

yah ricks, way to close to airhole in that pic, make sure no part of the coil touches any part of the kayfun. only the leads should make contact. also watch where you snip off the leads because as the chimney screws onto the deck any stray coil lead can touch the chimney. I have done a lot of set ups and I have found the best distance is/ the bottom of coil is slightly slightly below the top of the screw heads. in your pic it looks like the top of screw heads are about half way through the middle of your coil. another thing to note rick when touching cotton is to wash your hands good. I believe if your hands have been making coils and touching this and that it can come off on the cotton.

Something is off with that coil. 13 wraps of 28 around a 2mm should have given you a roughly 2 ohm coil. Check your connections!

10 wraps will give you the 1.5 you're looking for.
Everything is tight and both my kfl's freshly done came up with the same numbers.

That coil looks a bit too close to the air hole. Might just be the camera angle, but it looks a bit too close to me

I like to keep them a bit higher:

I like them as close as possible to the air hole.

I read from other kayfun builders to keep the coil as close as you can to the air hole for more flavor. I'm still in experimental stages here guys. Been building these for almost a month now. At least one recoil a day. I will try and find who says coils closer to air hole equals better flavor.
its all just personal preference rick but for the most part the closer the coil is to the airhole the more flavor and less TH, and the farther increases TH and less vapor. with all this I have found 1.5mm to be optimal for me. I have tried it closer but it tends to stiffen up the draw a bit, also the coil will gunk faster in the middle because the air is concentrated more in the center of coil instead of around it. either way it takes many builds to find your sweet spot.

I've read that many times too, and keep mine pretty close- just high enough so I can see light between the coil and the hole. But I'm not sure about this- gonna try moving them up a bit and see what happens.

im talking about the coil above......perfect looking coil! everything about this coil is right, no pressure on the coil because the leads are connected to screw heads in the right spot ( I love coils that are resting without pressure) sometimes the wrong pressure tweeks a coil out of shape, this is a longish type coil so its at best rest on an angle. I like coils with no pressure because they are tighter, when they are tighter no wicking material comes through or in-between wraps (the entire cotton is inside coil, no strays) also the leads in this coil are cut off in the correct location(way around the sides of screw heads). also coil height is imo perfect and being at 10 wraps has great wick coverage. good job. oh where did the pic go? I was complimenting that pic of the twisted coil a few posts up, not sure why it wasn't included in this post, I thought I 'REPLIED TO POST" which usually gets included.
