The only time my SM KFL (non plus original) whistled was when I adjusted the center pin trying to get more airflow. Who was that conned me into thinking it would work? :vapor:
I lined up the "air holes" on my KFL and it sort of whistled so I mis-aligned them back.
Seemed to have no difference in air flow.

ED as in The Lion?
The one and only.

I have a bunch of PC cotton yarn, IMO just regular cotton works sooo much better.
I like using just regular cotton but honestly never tried anything else on the KFL unless of course we throw in the Q-tips, loose cotton etc...

That might have been it, then; it was so swollen with juice, that I had to be very careful removing it, so it didn't deform the coil. It didn't seem like that much when I first put it in, but I hadn't considered how much it would swell, soaked in e-juice. Hoping this 2-strand wick will do better.

Andria I don't split the P&C yarn, but also I don't loop it..just run through and leave a tiny bit on each side. If your coil is smaller diameter splitting the yarn might be just what you need. You'll get it figured out...and I know it's a pia to drain the tank, fix cotton and refill but once you figure out the right amount for your setup it will be an easy cotton change every couple of tanks.

whenever I am toying with new coils or wicks I always just fill the tank a tiny bit until I find out if it works well.

Have you tried X-116 (I think thats what its called) ceramic wick?

No, never did ceramic. Knew many who tried it. Got kind of mixed reviews. I have to be honest, I've never received a dry hit from silica. It keeps up with my vaping frequency. As for taste, I cannot tell the difference between silica, cotton ball, wicked cotton, mesh, yarn, or anything else I have tried. Just me.

you should try x-116, its just like silica but its ceramic fibers (from what I understand). Its like $8 bucks for a foot but it will literally last you a month +. Ive seen a video online of a guy dipping it in motor oil and then burning it clean with a torch. They treat it in a high heat oven at like 2500 degrees for an hour +. It's pretty much indestructible.

Ceramic is one of the hardest substances known to man (just shy of a diamond). But ceramic is also very brittle.

I think wick material is as subjective as juice. I tried all kind of stuff and I settled on good ole silica and cannot tell the difference.

I've found that silica really does work better in the tiny coils, it's a great deal more impervious to heat. But for my KFL+ I've tried plain silica, ekowool that's been boiled, dried, and then "torched" (with a lighter, don't have a torch), and finally tried out the P&C yarn again, and I get the most flavor from the cotton yarn. That's why I was wondering about the cotton-ball type of cotton; since I have found such a great difference in flavor from the silica to the cotton yarn with the KFL+, I wondered if it might be even better with "real" cotton. Just to judge from the Busardo video, it does seem that when you have it arranged properly, it's spread out and would be capable of holding a great deal more juice in the wick itself, than the yarn does. I'm only using 2 of the 4 strands from the P&C, looped (doubled) thru the coil, and then when I get the botton part of the chimney attached, I separate the remaining 2 strands before tucking them back in, but it just doesn't seem to amount to much that would hold the juice.

Also, regarding that loud hot popping I was having last night, it seems it must have been that wick that was causing it, maybe because when soaked in e-juice it was really overcrowding the coil. Since I changed it and reduced it to just half a strand, no more popping, at least not that loud hot obnoxious kind, just the normal snap-crackle-pop that any atomizer makes. :thumb:

Andria, I followed the exact same route. Silica followed by Ekowool followed by Yarn, and nothing comes close to the simplicity or flavour purity that you get with a properly wicked cotton coil. I urge everyone (including the General) to try it atleast a couple times.

I'm seasoned Dust. Like I say, I think it depends on the individual. In this case, it appears to me most individuals like the cotton ball the most. But there are exceptions and perhaps it has to do with one's taste buds. I have 40+ years of pack and a half per day Marlboro mileage on my tongue. My ability to taste the difference between fillet mignon and spam has probably deteriorated too. But since I haven't ate spam in more than 30 years I don't know and I don't want to find out and know I could have saved lots of money over the years. :)

Well I don't have any cotton balls at the moment, never use 'em, but I'll definitely be getting some. Although I've always thought that "organic" was more hype than substance, I've found that Walgreens has organic cotton balls for a very reasonable price, so I'll be getting some of those soon; this weekend, for sure. For the moment I have no particular problems with the cotton yarn, and I do have a gob of it, so I may as well use it, since I seem to have found the right way to use it for this particular coil -- it's 7/64 ID, and the half-strand seems to be working very well.
