Re Microcoil.

Just comments on some small points that have been discussed. First the microcoil as created by superx is about diameter. He never mentioned anything about touching coils or contact coils or whatever. That came after. So he created the microcoil saying a microcoil is a coil with diameter between 1.4mm to 1.65mm (0.055 to 1/16). What he noticed is that diameter gave him better flavor for a given resistance. He was using a Reo and aiming at 1.3 ohms. With this low of a diameter it gave him many wraps and that is why he got the flavor. The microcoil was born.

Now the contact coil or touching wraps is nothing but a BYPRODUCT of the micro coil as created. It is because we have now many wraps that the space was becoming to small for gaps between wraps. Now when people started realizing that touching wraps does indeed work and does not short out, they were able to have more surface area by making sure the coil is all stuffed together. This allowed also to have a better concentration of airflow on the coil and more consistent glowing of the coil and therefore less energy loss. The more energy you spare = better efficiency = better performance at a certain power level.

Best microcoils are contact microcoils in my opinion but that doesn't mean that gaps are bad. When we used to use gaps we were used to high gauge wires which unfortunately have a high concentration of heat in the middle. This lead to caramelization and gunk. If you recall well in the history of vaping, low gauge wires (< 32) started with gennies, then when we moved to cotton, we started doing micro coils on drippers using these contact coils. So really we didn't give NON-contact coils a chance with low gauge wires and cotton (rayon is best).

@TheKiwi just a comment regarding contact coil not allowing vapor but on the edges, don't forget that wires, especially thick ones ( < 28) are wickers as well. You will see vapor coming off the wire directly, And the wire will keep on wicking from the cotton wick itself. And IMO this is why lower gauge wires give better flavors, because you get a big amount of vapor from a wire which is metal which reminds us of the flavor from gennies.

Cheers guys!

Right right. I'm certain I've tried as many different builds too, trying to find some mind blowingly good new ones.

Nope. Not quite there.

Tbh the only one that has the most significant difference from a standard microcoil is just, well, the double barrel build. That one I can honestly say that the difference is significant enough.

In any case, an update. Just finished my 2nd tank of my custard juice in my kfl with that hybrid coil thingie. No fluff, but there is noticeably less gunking on the coil and wick.

I agree about the dual build, or as you call it double barrel, for me at least, I feel it provides the most flavor and vapor of any other build I have done.

I remember early 2013 when sx started the thread and at least then, he stated that his micro coil did indeed have all wraps touching. I remember this because before that it was thought that if one were to do this, it would short. Either way, because of sx I haven't looked back.

A well written piece Aal, and a nice reality check there. Thanks for the nostalgic lesson bro!

I'm kinda with Diver...all these variations of coils but it boils down to there is not a whole lot of difference between any of them. At least not that I can tell. Except when we're talking subohm. But when people say they have gaps or no gaps or 1.5mm vs 2.0mm or 7 wraps instead of 11 wraps or dual vs single, 28 vs 30, etc...I'm seeing only negligible differences at most.

I don't mean to be mean lol but this is what was written in the micro coil thread today by coincidence :)

Brother EEL, please see below :) it started in REOvil. Yep the first micro coil was made on a chalice on a REO grand.
I created this thread shortly thereafter :)

All this pulsing and squeezing came after the fact and is totally not necessary to build a great micro. I think it originated by people who couldn't wrap a decent coil. :)

The wraps didn't even all touch. It was all about inside diameter bro :)

I only started following when he started the micro coil thread, i didnt know he had started a little before then in the reo thread so i probably missed some of the earlier stuff. But yes the micro coil thread has always been one of my favorites for sure and learned a lot from it. Shortly after that thread I started doing micro coils in my dripper, and gennys, but it wasn't until I bought my first kayfun that I really fell in love with them. At the time in the kayfun thread everyone was using silica and standard coils , my first post in the kayfun thread was me posting on how well sx's micros worked in this device and that every one should try them. Well that's only like a year ago but seems alot longer for some reason. Sx is the man

You're not bad yourself, I mean your videos and all :D. Very clean coils and builds!

No. Cal.
For times when you have KF parts really stuck and rubber gloves won't work, I have a pair of no scratch channel locks.

Amazon.com: Tamiya 74061 Non-Scratch Pliers: Toys & Games

Thanks Sedge. I think I'll stick to the bottom-filling method. Works just fine for me.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program on micro coils. Yep, it was SuperX that made it simple for me to wrap a coil for my Mini Reo. I owe him a debt of gratitude.

Thank you sir, appreciate it. When I started vaping, I never thought I would be involved the way I am. I thought it was just something to do instead of smoking and never thought it would turn into a passionate en devour. But it has, and I really enjoy every aspect, especially all you great people.

I bet that Noone really thought one day they will be shooting themselves on youtube and teaching people to wrap coils. Also I bet not any modders thought one day that vaping will change his life and make him a business man. Vaping turned out a weird phenomenon. It should be in history or guiness booking for breaking some record. The fastest trending hobby maybe? Really it is fascinating to see the transformation. I'm a 3 years vaper in August. I spent more money, I left a lot of hobbies untouched, it became an obsession lol.
