hey guys you know a couple weeks ago i was messing with a vert coil in the k-lite without the cotton through, but around the coil, so airflow comes straight up? well it did work really well but took a lot of cotton and time to set-up, and although vapor production and flavor was slightly better, imo it just didn't justify the time spent. well in my reo i use a micro coil and don't thread the cotton through it, i make a bed of cotton for the coil to sit on, also i bed the cotton around the coil making sure just not to cover the ends of the coil. this cotton bed imo produces more vapor and flavor then a micro threaded normally. i also have a genny and a dripper with this bedded cotton set-up and have made videos on both. i especially like the dripper set-up, in this set-up i don't use a very big bed under the coil, just a tiny amount, and this is great for trying out different juices. after you tried one juice you just slide out this tiny bed of cotton and slide in a new one. anyways been wanting to try this in the k-lite but because of the airflow from the bottom i wasn't to confident of the results. today i opened up the kayfun to change out the wick and decided to make a bed instead of threading, this works a little better then the vert coil because the bed doesn't have to go as high, and you don't need to use as much cotton. it works really nice and doesn't take really any longer to do. you use your same coil as you normally would(although i might try a smaller one) and just run a wick from the well over on the inside of the screw heads across to the other well, i do this on both sides. this is kind of tucked in and under the coil. i also add some more cotton around and under as well making sure not to block off the air hole. anyways i don't think there is a proper way to do this, just kind of make a bed of cotton around and slightly under the coil so its like sitting in a bed of cotton. this has been pretty awesome compared to the regular coils. i do notice a bit more vapor, a lot better flavor, but with less TH. i think i will try it with my 20g blunt tip needle, this might bring back the TH to where it was before.

Thanks Divrr I've been using glass for over 1 1/2 years and I don't use anything else. And yes I've dropped a mod tip first on the concrete and there was just little bits left LOL But I've dropped a bunch with no issues.

certainly is very nice looking. is that a dna-20 mod? im waiting on a dna-20 tube mod, the futura

i thought for sure the tank was ruined after it fell. being that i was able to slightly tighten it when it happened i thought it broke at the threads. surprisingly it was fine. the sqounks design sounds pretty good, do you like it better overall?

I do actually like the Squape a little better than the Kayfun Lite. Probably not as versitle for doing dual coils and stuff. But for single wick, single coil set ups, it's great.

Try the Mesh + Cotton wick I posted back in page 352 I think it was. Changing flavors is super easy. New tails take all but a minute to install and I just rinse the the tank and deck under hot water, dry it out, blow out the air hole and dry burn the mesh wick before installing the new cotton tails. Absolutely flawless flavor switch and the coil and mesh wick remain intact. I haven't changed my coil and wick since last week and it's still working like day one.

usually in time the sputtering goes away. sometimes for some reason I get this sound at first but after a tank or less it stops.

When I said sputter I meant it fired but very weakly. I used the TankO'Meter to see what the voltage drop would be like and it just flickered on me. If I where to guess it was trying to pump out at least 3.3volts if not it wouldn't have fired at all. The mini Ego was metering 3.9volts unloaded at that point. I got a few vapes out of the Kayfun they where just colder than what I get off of it on my mech. In theory it works just fine, I just wouldn't run a 1.1ohm coil on it day in and day out. A 1.6ohm coil though, I don't see why not. Hence why the idea sprung into my head with some KFLs with K-Nano conversions to make them smaller, shorty drip tips on them and mounted on these Mini Egos with the beauty ring. Daring to be original! :p $150 worth of tank on a $12 battery + beauty ring. LOL

This sounds very similar to something I did last night... mostly out of boredom. :)

Still on my macro coil kick... so there's that variance, but... a bed of cotton surrounding a horizontal coil is what I've ended up with as well. Right now it's filled with a zero nicotine, cola flavor sample I had laying around and the taste is excellent. No real TH of course, but good vapor and good re-wicking between hits - I had a bit of concern about this last bit, but it was unfounded.

I have both 26 and 28 gauge wire.... If I don't have a 16 gauge needle what size drill bit could I use to do a micro coil and how many wraps should I use per said sizes?

If you have an Android phone or tablet just download the Vapers Toolbox app. You input the wire type, guage or thickness, target coil resistance, what size inner diameter and the length of the coil tails (0.1 inches on the KFL) and it will tell you the target wraps you should be doing. It has been 100% accurate in my tests.

got you on the sputtering thing, my bad. I know mesh is a great wick and does produce a great flavor for sure. maybe the next time I do a rebuild I will try it again. I did try it when I first received my k-lite with some 28g and a standard coil at low resistances but preferred the micro a little more. maybe if I give it a go I will try it with my 26g along with a micro coil. the only difference with that might be a little lag time because of the mesh, but if the wick has a tiny diameter maybe not. what diameter would you say your mesh wick is? do you use a micro with it or standard wrap?

very cool. been vaping it now for a few hours and its getting even better. also it seems that without a threaded coil it heats up a little faster and pulls a little easier, its pretty smooth.

Say Diver...prognosticate for me please.

I have some 28ga coming. I'm going to build two identical, 10-wrap coils with it using identical wick. Except one coil will have an inside diameter of 2mm and the other will be around 2.4mm.

What do you think I will find?

I just might have to invest in one of these. did you say the airflow is from the side? so there is no hole under the coil? if so this could be better for a cotton bed under the coil

My wick is tiny, just around 1.8mm, rolled really tight, no hole through the middle. The length is just about 2mm less than the diameter of the chamber. Go back a few pages and take a good look at the build. I don't feel any lag at all with the heating. I would try this again with a micro coil if I had larger gauge Kanthal, currently using 4 wraps over the top of the wick of 30 gauge Kanthal with the ends ending at the bottom going towards the posts. 1.1ohms it fires up pretty much instantly. I would say if you haven't hit it for a while the virst vape is about room temperature and the 2nd vape onwards brings the heat and stays there until you put it down enough for the entire thing to cool down completely.

This is the post, back in page 350: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...tems/436118-kayfun-lite-350.html#post10891343 The post about how it's built is right after that one. I would also add that using higher # mesh is what makes this work so well. Its been proven that higher # mesh has faster capillary action to help bring the juice to the coils from the cotton tails.

for the obvious, the coil with the larger diameter will be higher in resistance, besides that I would imagine that the coil with a smaller diameter will heat up slightly faster , be a tad bit warmer and may produce a little more TH. as for vapor production, that's a tough one because the diameters are kind of close , I just don't think there will be a noticeable difference in vapor production but if I had to guess, the lower resistance one maybe. flavor? also a tough question. from my experiments with micro coils my 16g needle diameter seems to be the best. I have done slightly wider coils and slightly narrower ones and the 1/16 size seems to have a better taste. but it may not be the diameter, it could be the temp or balance of the whole set-up. all in all it will be very close in comparison between both but I always prefer the lower resistance coils in all aspects

I'm pretty anxious to see some of the veterans try out my build to get a review. :p I know I don't feel like changing one bit of it save for trying a high gauge micro coil on it next time when I buy more Kanthal. I've tried several VERY different flavors through it and the flavor is spot on with just a hot water soak, dry burn and blow out of gunk on the coils while dry burning.

sounds good, so the diameter is pretty close to what my coils are, so with my 26g wire I would need to make about 8 wraps to get my preferred resistance. so this in itself makes for something different for me for I have done macro coils on a 1/8 mesh wick but not multiple micro coils. with my gennys and mesh I made 4 wraps all touching and it was ok on mesh but no real difference to standard wraps. never done micro wraps at such small diameters on mesh, sounds cool. thanks

I will give it a go but it will be a little different because of the wire gauge I use, also all wraps will be touching. are all your wraps touching? or standard? sorry I should just go back and look, I do remember the post

Yes, there is a hole under the coil. But the air inlet is just above the 510 threads. Not in the side of the base like the Kayfun Lite.

So no flush mounting, unless you have a fully vented top cap mod.. or does the squape base itself vent laterally from the bottom?

Man... I'm lazy. I suppose I could go look at one, huh. :)
