Perfect thank you.... So if I wrap this up and test it on this ohm tester do I need the cotton installed when testing or not?

No... not unless it's completely saturated - or you'll burn it instantly.Perfect thank you.... So if I wrap this up and test it on this ohm tester do I need the cotton installed when testing or not?
I, apparently, have some "unique" taste/smell issues - I still have to boil even sterile cotton, or I get a slight chemical taste. Nothing fancy - two 5 minute boils in distilled water and they're "tasteless".
I have made wick from Koh Gen Do Japanese make-up pads... the only thing I've not had to boil first. My wife gets them from a local salon, and I steal them from her.![]()
sometimes a clone is amazingly good, this has been the case in a couple of devices i purchased, also it has gone the other way at times and is a total waste of money. my latest paperweight is the fogger v-1.
I've got a fogger v2 coming.. Todd says it's great..Rip says is crap. Oh well... I need something else to fiddle with now that my kfl learning curve is over![]()
"Fiddle with" is good... fiddling turns crap into great - sometimes.I've got a fogger v2 coming.. Todd says it's great..Rip says is crap. Oh well... I need something else to fiddle with now that my kfl learning curve is over![]()
that's a new one to me, testing the vape without the tank on after saturating the wick, i never thought about that one. so you vape it from the tin cap? i suppose this will work if somethings really not right with it but i believe to really know if everythings perfect you need to assemble the whole device.
who to believe? anyways I have heard the v-2 is a lot better then the v-1 for sure, so keep us informed.
I have. Toronto - Amsterdam - Dubai. 18hrs. No issues. Oh yes, made some new friends at the A/port Smoking Lounges... and one confirmed convert√
Oooo... now, if only that simple, humble sentiment could be broadly conveyed... and taken to heart. ;-)Once you find what works for you, why not just enjoy it? I really am humbled and honored to be an ECF member. So much good knowledge and great people here.
If you get a metallic taste from vaping from the "tin cap", it usually means there's a short in the coil and eliminates the need to drain your tank and rebuild. Of course if you're using micro coils, it's very unlikely you'll have a short.
donnah, I am on the 91% preorder.... since July, i am still waiting. I have 3 KFL's, all running micro coils and cotton. I have a v2 fogger, set up with same coil n cotton as KFL's. I like the Foggers air control ring. Other then that, my KFL is always with me. There are so many choices out there today. I could get a Kraken.... but i have 2 Stratus 22's that are the perfect genny for me. I have an RSST, never even set it up... Once you find what works for you, why not just enjoy it? I like all the vape gear i have, used.. continue to use. The KFL i stumbled on when i saw "Q" post the link in another thread. I really am humbled and honored to be an ECF member. So much good knowledge and great people here. vapedivr & ceramic thread... made my gennies awesome!!
that reminds me crss, been wanting to do a ceramic set-up in the lite and just forgot about it. still have some of the 3/32 wicks that they discontinued and should work pretty well in the lite. will just loop some cotton around the wick tails like nttdemented does with his mesh builds.
Well I messed up my beautiful coil this afternoon when it fell on the floor while I was trying to re wick it with my recently rescued puppy on my lap (yeah, bad move). I almost cried, she was working so well!!
Anyway for the heck of it I tried doing a long micro trying to gain surface area with the 30awg I got and I built an even tinnier ss mesh wick at 1mm diameter with a 7 wrap micro on it. 1.1ohms again. Put my cotton tails on, saturated, test fired and it was producing an even nicer looking stream of vapor right out of the chamber. Re saturated a bit more, put the chimney on, test vapped it and all was well with even vapor and a more saturated vape couldn't wait to break it in! So feeling like Einstein I put it all back together, filled it and started vaping. 10 hits in an unstoppable metallic taste kicked in and it would only go away when I took a few hard unfired puffs. There where no hotspots, coils where fine so I chucked the entire build thinking that I didn't have enough mesh to keep the coil saturated.
This was the 2nd time I built a dud on my KFL, it was pretty bad. Rebuilt again but I went for a 2.5mm mesh wick diameter (.5mm thicker than my original mesh build) did 4 wraps again but I spaced them out wider and tighter on the wick than my first mesh build. Surprisingly I whent down to 1.0ohms even. Re wicked the cotton tails, saturated chamber, put everything back together, filled it and chain vaped it for about 10 minutes to break it in. I can say for sure the bigger mesh wick is juicier and more saturated. This one is tasting better than my original mesh build.
After testing how good the nano coil worked when it did work now I'm even more convinced to buy 28awg and 26awg to try to put a 1.0ohm micro on a 2.5mm mesh wick to see where that takes my build. I suspect I could bring the resistance up to 1.2 or 1.4 as the micro is definitely hotter than the standard wraps.
Now that sounds like a good idea! I've been wondering on ceramic wicks. I saw once a pic of someone that filed away and molded a ceramic wick that sat on the deck like a jacket with the coil on top inside a little cup molded into the ceramic wick itself. It looked custom as hell, wish I would've bookmarked it. Now just using a small straight ceramic wick sounds promising.
What do you suspect the benefits might be over mesh?
