I thought I read back, but sorry if I asked again. Paul K gave me good advise.

BTW I also miss Jack. He was a wonderful and sweet man.

No apologies friend, I just wanted to be sure the response to your request caught your eye. Threads move fast, so finding answers can be somewhat of a PITA ;)

Thanks Digitals, my GP hero. I am currently on the waiting list at vape Rev & inTaste both for the KFL. Normally waiting lists are a bummer for me because I'm only impatient when I have money. Now after laying down so much coin on some brand new quality Mechanicals I'm broke as a joke.

Folks, I even tapped my mum to help me buy some laser slotted Boges and I'm a grown ... man! Don't worry though, I'll pay her back eventually (guilty conscious for being a jerk in my youth).

And then when Digitals led me to Vape Rev and I heard Dusty D mention here about inTaste.de, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Well, once I have money again. Now I need to consider selling in the classeys which I've been putting off for the longest time!

RHP

I can relate to that. I think the only negative for VapeRev is you won't receive extras with your Kayfun purchase. I've heard both sides; some people did, and some didn't. Maybe they are changing their ways?

I ordered from C9V, and it was on my doorstep the same week (within 7 days)

The 3.1s I have were purchased from the classies.

Im really loving this Kayfun Lite. Funny about a year ago, I was wanting one, but the version I wanted was discontinued for the 3.0. I was so torn between the Kayfun and Odysseus. I got the Odys but kept wanting a Kayfun. The 3.1 kinda scared me, a lot of things to worry about if I could handle the build, plus the length was a bit wieldy at the time with use on my Kicked Saber, kinda long.

Then The lite came out and everyone said how much easier it was to set up and the shorter length was nice. Everyone at the Super T ELA thread loved it paired up with ELA and it looked so damn nice, finish was almost exact.

One of my buddies that has 3 Kayfun Lites talked me into it, and though build was a bit harder for me to figure out, I got it now and it vape great.

THe GG people are quite convinced its a copy of Ody and the only similarities are the shape and that they use silica, other than that its a very different beast and build even on the lite is amazing. Which one is better? Well couldnt say either one is "better" It all depends on your preference, Ody is not as airy but its cooler and to get the same warmth as Kayfun you have to build it with much lower resistance.

I love them both. They are both something I could not see myself without. Many a Ody lover has secretly told me they like the Kayfun better because of not having to twist and because its warmer. SSHHH dont tell anyone I told this to you:)

Thank you. He even took the time to make his PM's as thought out as his posts. He was a great narrator. I only knew him briefly towards the end (which no one saw coming) but I noticed in your post http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/427261-r-i-p-gioacchino-jack-giampapa.html you conducted some business with the man. So you probably know what I'm talking about unless you're a lady then I'm sure he kicked up the Charm :)

I remember he was helping me privately on his take on things like the differences in bottom feeders or something and towards the end of these huge PM's (which were like unbiased honest reviews) I offered to give him my Marks Bugs Chalice V1 as a gift and he kindly refused saying he doesn't want to take advantage of me. At that stage in the game it was about hero worship, I hung on his every word secretly.

My apologies for hijacking the thread folks. I'll try to stay on topic.

I just wanna buy almost everything at Vape Rev my dude  Hell, even the Semovar Akkuträger by SvoeMesto looks cool. The sticker shock of the rebuildables makes me want 'em more! If evgeny keeps enabling us with his vape porn I might even try an Ithaka one day!

The real crux is here on ECF with all ya'll wise folks helping us with our building evolution. They should give away the delivery devices for free then just charge money for access to folks on ECF

Guys,my first microcoil attempt:
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did Vapdivrr's tutorial but wanted at least 1.2ohms. Did 12 wraps 28ga kanthal on a 16ga needle. Cotton (organic) from Walgreen's. This is soooo amazing! I want to thank Vapdivrr, Qorax, Digitals, and everyone else who has helped in this thread and made it so easy for me to try this. I didn't take any pics but the coil came out beautiful and my NLV Gold has never tasted better! This rocks. I was actually using just a 3/4 wrap on ekowool for .8 ohms and this is right up there with how hard it hits! Microcoils from now on!!!!!!

that's awesome! glad it turned out good. that is a great combination, 28g @ 1.2 ohms is a winner for a vv device imo.

I'm going to get some organic cotton to try. Got myself a magnify glass with a light and when working with my nextel tonight noticed my hands looked like they had glitter all over them when I was done:confused: didn't like that..but I'm rockin the wick

I always use one of those magnifying gadgets with the light attached(although the light kind of broke and doesn't work anymore) that fits like a hat. there is no way I could not use this because I just couldn't see that close. im with you on those tiny strands of fiberglass, if you really look at it under magnification its scary. I also tried premium silica once, the kind from Germany that's supposed to be the best, it did the same thing but not as bad.

Interesting read. Let me impart my silica experience for the silica users. Silica falls apart quickly. It unravels and resembles one's hair shortly after removing their fingers from a wall socket. I simply push this frazzled mess down the sides giving it no special treatment or thought where it is going. I just make sure all strands are bent over and going downward. The end result is the same exact vape each and every time.

Let it be known that I am not trying to talk up silica and/or put down cotton. Not at all! I personally cannot tell much of a difference likely because my mouth and lungs have gone through the torments of more than 438,000 cigarettes over the course of my life. I don't doubt for a second those who say cotton is better than silica. I use silica simply because I cannot tell the difference and it is more user friendly in terms of durability and cleanability. No other reason. (Though it could be said removing and replacing a cotton wick is hardly any more work - or perhaps even less)

it is possible that because of my low resistance and much higher wattages with the kay lite , that wicking is a little more of a fine line. if I just rewick one of my coils I can get it right every time with no issues at all, but when im experimenting and trying out something new sometimes I get a little sloppy and rush the build, this is when I notice differences in wicking. its really hard to tell though sometimes if its the placement or the actual density and thickness of the wick. I noticed a few times that when I had an improper wicking wick, that when I slid out the cotton from the coil, the section of wick that was in the coil seemed white, like it was to dense, this meant it was to dense and was kind of rejecting the juice, basically the coil was strangling the cotton. it does seem that whenever I do a set-up on my provari the higher resistance allowes for a more consistant wicking.

One tip I read somewhere on another thread, was they would take a regular sewing thread and tie the ends of the silica, so it would not unravel, and then use the thread to pull the silica threw the coil.

this tying by thread is used more with ceramic rope more so then plain silica. I tried the xc-116 before and had to do this with a needle and thread. this is needed only if using a micro coil, if using a standard wrap method you just wrap the wires, then cut the ends. if doing a micro coil, its so hard to pull the wick thru unless the ends are together. in the end it was best to do a micro coil around the wick.

yea, I built the dna20 into my reo, I really like the dna20 module, seemed like a good idea and after building and using it I love it, works great with dual coils in the cyclone atty with adjustable airflow cap, between being able to adjust the wattage and the airflow I'm sure to be able to tune a great vape out of it. thread here if you want to check it out :)
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/478411-moddified-reo-grand-dna20d.html

I agree that the kayfun and the reo are both great and choosing between them would be very hard, even on the builds that tend to run a bit on the dry side in the kayfun, an extra little primer puff here and there is really no more work than squonking a bottle.

personally I find that the kayfun doesn't really need 20 watts with most builds, and for me anyway, I find that the kayfun has trouble keeping up with the wicking even more so when running it that high on most builds. I think I'm pretty happy even with the 15 watt limit of the semovar paired with the kayfun and sometimes even run it at less than the 15 watts. one way to richen up a drier running build is to lower the wattage a bit.

I do find the higher the wattage the more wicking you need on the kay lite, but if done just right it works fine. I am looking forward to my dna mod, not really to run higher wattages, but just to run the 20 watts I am currently running, without the hassles associated with a mech device. I do run, for the most part, .65 resistances with the k-lite, this adds up to about 20 watts on average, if I can do this on a protected mod that runs consistently on temperature, then why not. whatever build I do I love to use a thick wire, and 26g is my fav. with 26g wire I am currently held to doing 8 or 9 wraps on a mech to achieve my 20 watt liking. with the dna-20 I could try maybe 10 or 11 wraps of 26g wire and still get 20 watts, this currently cannot be done with my current mods. I will definitely check out that dna-20 modded reo, thanks for the info

Micro coil with 9/10 twisted 32 wrap. I figured since I was doing a new type of coil, might as well go in for another first for me. A cotton wick! I've always

2.3 ohms of goodness at 4.3 volts on the Provari. Massive Vapor, and flavour is slowly picking up.

always loved the looks of twisted wires. recently I have seen tri twisted wires, they use 3 strands of 30g which really looks cool. what gauge do you normally use? after some time let us know if there is a difference in performance compared to your normal wire. nice job

I found a thread that discusses this at length although after 5000 posts I haven't found any definitive & conclusive answers.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/284030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous.html

I live vicariously through other rba'ers and I'm still using this German Silica from RTD because I haven't tried cotton yet. Besides, a hot coil will kill any RHP transmitted diseases! Stick a pin in it - wrap a coil - job done. prepare it!! with what - a pep-talk? I like to give my wick 'n wire pep-talks, folks :p

it's this weird thing with my buddy and cotton wool wicks, i.e. they are crap and don't last! 'oh but it only takes 2 mins to change them (and use another 5ml of juice to wet them)'

My buddys preferred wicking material is XC-116 ceramic wick. (Kiln-treated per 3M specs)

I'll be getting my XC-116 here:
XC-116

RhP

out of all the silica I have tried, I do think the like the german silica from rtd vapors the best. im definitely not saying silica is bad for us at all, and compared to cigarettes we are all doing a 1000 x's better, its just my opinion about silica. I have no facts about the safetly at all and really don't know whats the safest wicking material. in the end I really don't vape silica because its fiberglass, I just don't like the taste compared to cotton.

Dust, through no fault of his own, ended up with a few hundred feet of 32ga so he found a way to make use of it instead of wasting it. :)

besides being able to use it up, it also might provide a better vape. some swear by twisted wires. I have tried it, but not with micro's. maybe the extra nooks & crannys make a difference. well it looks like your boiling idea had some validation to it, I personally cannot see why but it seems like it worked. everytime I take apart my kayfun I look at it under magnification and see no build up of residue on it at all, this makes me wonder why boiling would have any effect on wicking or dry hits. maybe if one always uses different juices in it, like one day this juice, then the next day uses a different one. with so many different juices this may effect the flavor, but dry hits?

Yeah, I don't understand the dry hit thing. The boiling was simply used to burn off any residual remaining on the metal surfaces that simple faucet cleaning seemingly cannot address.

Bronze, thank you for covering questions directed to me. It's been a busy weekend, and I haven't been around much.

The twisted 32 performs equivalent to a 28, I believe and is working just fine. I'm using a HHV NET in one and a MOV NET in the other. The MOV one is starting to lag in performance and may need to be de-gunked by the end of the day. I'm going to try regular coils around the S shaped 2mm ekowool, following VD's method, with the twisted next.

See y'all later!
