If you are getting dry hits after its been sitting for a bit, try a little less dense of cotton. The coil is forcing the juice out and down to the end of the wick.

You know, that is exactly what was happening.... I figured the cotton size was good because I could squeeze it through the coil with just a little resistance, but I really compressed it to get it in the 2mm coil.

I switched out the cotton for one that went through with zero resistance & it's performing beautifully now.... Thanks man for the recom.

Although I do like to exhale vapor (like when I smoked), I'm into flavor, not clouds, and I'm definitely not in to unsafe. A little off topic, but I get really annoyed when I hear of B&Ms building way-low sub-ohm coils for new vapors.

They were talking about that in the group actually. The shop should put a normalish rest coil on there. If the user wants something different, they can rebuild when they get home.

I personally like a 1 to 1.2 ohm coil on my KFL, gennys and drippers.

Well... After an unhappy vaping day running with sub par builds that tasted burnt I went to my local KMart and bought a set of drill bits from 1/16 - 1/4 for $6 and I got home and the first thing I did was take apart my KFs, give them a good washing with dish washing soap and I built a 28awg coil on the 1/16 drill bit with 8 wraps. I think that one of my main issues was that I was using an allen key. My first 1/16 coil came out BEAUTIFULLY on the 1/16 drill bit. I thought I was going to get 1.2ohms according to the vaper's toolbox app but I think I entered measurements that where to small for the coil leads. I ended up getting 0.8ohms out of the coil.

Reluctantly I decided to wick it and this time I made sure I did not use a tightly rolled piece of cotton. On the first fire this thing blew my hair back!!

Been vaping it at 13 watts for the past few minutes with only a tiny hint of it drying out. Running un-kicked with a fully charged battery it pumps out 12 watts and lowers down to 10 watts when it goes down to 3.5v under load. Gonna keep testing it before I put this build on my other KF.

Another detail that I think I was doing wrong was that I was sitting the coil far to low. This time I made sure the bottom of the coil was almost at the top of the screw heads.

i run the same setup. 1/16th, 28awg 8 wraps. i find that i like, no LOVE how the kfl performs between .8and .9 ohms. any lower and it gets burnt. a little higher and its too cool of a vape for my liking. i really want to pick up a second one just to have lol. but i think the wife will kill me

Freaking cotton.:D You haven't really vaped until you set your micro-coiled dripper on fire. The simplest and fastest way to remove the spent wick from a barbwire twisted triple stand ribbon coil is a 10 second dry burn on the all vaped out wick. The center chars through and you just pluck out what's left of each end. Usually, that is.

So, I'm hesitant to try cotton with the thing so prone to dry wicking, and effectively sealed inside the tank for the duration. But, if the cotton solved the feed problem, there is no problem. Right? Is cotton working so much better for you?

I've used cotton almost exclusively on my Kayfuns since day one. I only started having issues when I started dwelling in the doubke digit wattage power levels. That has been fixed by just building a smoother coil and using quite a bit less cotton through it. When I was running 1.6ohms I was using pretty tightly rolled wicks that I would puff up to be the height of the deck and they sat tight inside the coil. Now my wick threads through puffed up with only a bit of resistance and the puffs are about half the height of the deck.

More puffy = faster wicking.

The only other wicking material I've used is solidl rolled mesh aided by cotton tails and I love those builds but I have to play with it again now that I have 28awg wire to see if I can run a proper microcoil over solid mesh setup.

EDIT: Double checked my final resitances after using both my KFs for a bit with this build and they are metering closer to 1ohm now. One is running straight on my Neme and the other is kicked set to 11watts as the juice I'm running in that one tastes better with a bit less power.

I've been running a 9 wrap of 28g around 1/16th @ 1.07ohms for a few weeks now... lovin' it...

Haven't run sub ohm yet cuz keep hearing stories of melted insulators... might try your setup though...

keep us posted

Went back to cotton tonight.
ge8anuha.jpg

12 wraps came out to 1.3 ohms. On a 16ga needle.

Put a little boiled organic cotton in coil and laid some tail along the decks.

Sweet! I'm running one of my KFs with Big Willie's Custard. Delicious!

Running my other one with a bit of Shadow from HHV right now (sorry Bronze, couldn't help it had to try some of it out as I'm really loving the bit I had left in one of my EVODs).

Got my pair of KFL+s on Monday. New Kanthal (30 + 28) only arrived today, and the stuff I had before was too thin for a micro, so waited it out.

First build working so far with cotton pads (which I definitely don't recommend - but it's doable). Also waiting on some cotton pleats, and then life will be easier.

Anyway, nothing exciting to say yet (except believe the hype - these things work!). Just wanted to convey my thanks to you all for this extremely informative thread.

From what I hear you won't have issues with the insulators until you get to .6 ohm and lower.

Big Willies is great too. Haven't tried any HHV yet. Don't know why because in primarily a tobacco vape guy.

Just a side note here.
I've been filling my KFL+ from the top because I don't like the idea of having to carry around a screw driver and mess around with tiny little screws that are easily dropped and lost.
Well... Last night I used the fill hole for the first time and I was shocked to see how much more juice these things can hold doing it this way rather than through the top.
Granted, I might not have been filling it as far as I could when filling from the top for fear I would flood it but holy sheep chit what a difference!
Me likey this thing even more now. :thumb:
