OK so I used a .096" drill bit instead of a .076"
No wonder I needed so few wraps and it looked so much bigger than the microcoil pix on the net
So how many wraps with 30ga should get me 1.6-1-9 ohms?

I got to say, I haven't tried rebuilding before but this was just too easy... I made my micro coil and I checked it 10 times because I thought "It can't be too easy!". But it was... Flavor? Oh man... Vapor production? I used a 70-30 PG/VG and I couldn't see my laptop which was in front of me.
Worth every cent... Just too good!

OK, finally getting somewhere with my build. 9 or 10 (I have to write it down since I keep forgetting) around a 2.4mm screwdriver shaft, 1.9 ohm, wicked with cotton, lights up nicely, quickly from the center outward. Built it higher from the deck this time. Cooler but still decent amount of vapor and decent flavor, on par with Aerotank or Nautilus now. I'm using a Poldiac clone. If I fire it with my thumb, the mod is at an angle to horizontal and everything is good but if I fire with my finger the mod is parallel to the ground (horizontal) and I get a slight gurgling. No leaking though. Does that mean I'm a bit light on the wicking? And what should I be trying for better flavor? Raising the coil higher? A turn or two more or less to adjust the resistance? Or?

Waiting for the copper kit for my Red Copper Stingray.
I thought my poly tank didn't have o-rings and it seemed like it should. So, I put a couple of o-rings on but they didn't seat properly in to the metal tank sections. Upon closer inspection, I found that the poly tank did have the rings, they were just almost clear and visually blended into the poly tank. So, yes o-rings are a good thing, but just know that they may already be there.
Well I got the time to build all my KFL's. 2 KFL' and a Russian 91.
10 wraps of 30 guage Kanthal at 5/64 drill bit with sterile cotton.
Each one came home at 2-2.2 ohms. Topped off and very happy camper. I like to keep it simple.

I found the whistle is contributed by the position of the center pin. I found a sweet spot for no whistle but if I were to turn it even by a hair it will whistle

I use a 16ga needle. 8 wraps gets me 1.6 every time

Hard to tell from that angle, but you might want to raise it just a tiny bit. Also, I trim my cotton shorter. It just touches the deck. Wicks better for me.
It is possible that your light on wick because of the gurgling as it shouldn't happen at all, so it's just going to take some time to zero in on the correct amount. And flavor has a lot to do with the amount of wick so just take your time and before you know it, it will be awesome. If you have a great wick and all is good, I believe heat creates flavor so I would eventually go from the 7 watts you are currently pushing to a little more.

Hope the new kayfun coming out later redesigned the air flow and intake. My kfl+ doesn't whistle anymore but doesn't sound as smoother as my r91 taking deep draws
