Memories for sure. I know you know how many times I have done that same exact set up. I still have one ac9 set up like that and love it. For me, the only reason I don't vape gennys that much anymore is the juice darkening issue. I think now people have maybe found ways around it, but because im doing the bottom coul tanks now I haven't fooled around with it . Besides that, a genny with mesh, porous ceramic, or cable is a better all around vape imo. Are you able to vape a whole tank without any of the juice darkening? Good stuff dw!
This I was able to achieve by following your posts way back but at the time I wasn't "smart" enough to not use 24mg nic and it was kind of harsh (to put it mildly) so I sold my gens at the time. Juice appears to be darkening.

I think I have heard some say they have solved that issue but i kind of switched from gennys before doing a lot of testing regarding the darkening thing. It just seems a natural thing for it to happen when the wick is down into tank. Because it is natural to tilt the mod, juice is going to wick, time and time again from tank to coil and then back down, after a half tank the juice is not so fresh anymore. I used to waste a ton of juice because I just threw the bottom juice out. Maybe the trick would be not to tilt. I suppose if you can hold mod vertical, then it wouldn't be so bad. The issue with vaping the mod vertical, is that it's not natural imo. What was that term we used to use when people vaped mods vertical? It was something to do with jug head or something.

Oh Gawd! Glad those Genny days are over for me.

I used Gennys exactly for three weeks ~ then switched over to the Kayfun3.1ES the moment that happened! Still have my Aga-T, RSST, AGI, AG-Ti and Senisis somewhere in the house ;) The IQ-Hybrid is remains on my mods stand tho, full, and use it off-n-on for a change. But for the hassle free vape our K'funish attys trump the Gennys anyday!

Twisted 32 single coil works beautifully on the KFL. It was my go-to coil for the longest time before I started playing with 28g.
You've decided that you prefer 28 over twisted 32 for single coil builds? Interesting, everyone who's talked about twisted 32 seems to much prefer that over straight 28.

I do slightly prefer the twisted 32g over 28g myself but don't think it's that much difference. I do like that it seems slightly faster and maybe seems a bit tastier but it could be in my head. Besides the slightly faster heat up time, if i were to vape both side by side, I'm not sure if I could tell the difference. I do know 28g is much easier to work with though, and would probably last longer.

Never said that.. But the difference is so slight that I never picked one over the other. I was using twisted before I got my 28g. I just switched to 28 micros once I received the wire..

Me too. I use 28AWG usually for my micros. I find them (between 28-30AWG) the easiest to use/handle for a micro coil & cotton build. A 32g twisted coil is fine, gets to fire faster for sure, but a tad finicky for micros due to their springiness (however we torch them).

I have gaps in my twisted 32 no matter how much I torch them.

You cannot do away with the gaps, but they are beneficial in a small way because I'm pretty sure that they help to hold juice and therefore result in a slightly more flavourful vape.

Agree on the flavor comment.

I think there needs to be gaps, however small they may be, otherwise you'd have the equivalent of a very short piece of wire which would equate to pretty low resistance.

So far I am getting little difference between twisted 32 and my standard single strand 30. Very comparable across the flavor, TH, and vapor spectrum.

So. Haven't had time to wick and vape on this yet. But someone just entertain my thoughts a little.

I've never understood microcoils. At least the whole making all the wraps touch each other part. It was all part of the "everyone says so so it must be right" kinda thing. The only real benefit I can see is more efficient thermal conduction between the wraps, resulting in faster heat up time. I don't see much difference in resistance.

At the same time, doesn't it make sense that if the wraps are touching and kinda form an almost impermeable tube-like structure, there is actually less spots for vaporized eliquid to escape from the wick? Essentially it'll only be from the edges of the coil.

Dunno. Maybe someone can help me understand why exactly everyone says the wraps should be touching.

In any case, I figured ah why not make a hybrid. And so I did.

So it's essentially just a coil made up of 3 "sub coils", each made of 3 wraps touching each other, and leaving space in the middle.

I guess I just wanna figure out if that would give a greater vapor prosecution. Hnmm

ETA: oh in case anyone is wondering, it does heat up and glow nicely evenly throughout all 3 sub coils. I figured the semi-glow pictures would look nicer and give a better idea of how the coils look

All I can say is that every coil I have made, including the ones that I fired and squeezed together with pliers multiple times, have a very small gap in between the coils wraps when I look at it through a strong magnifying glass.

Its a coil, and by definition (in my mind anyway) it has to have some space in between.
Else we might call it a barrel, not a coil, lol.

Not to mention the resistance implications if it were a barrel and one solid round form.

I think the idea or topic is how much space in between the wraps is best.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, interesting coil there. If it works well, you can claim an original idea. :)
