I got my R91 clone a few days ago. i had a successful 1st build using the OPs method, i changed a couple things.
I wrapped 28g 5-7 times around an RDA screwdriver to get 1.1ohm MC. cotton ball wick, balled up to add chimney, and pressed down below by the channels.
(the modification)
i added a small pinch of rolled cotton above the well (above the wicks), almost level with the coil. this is to keep the feeding wick wet and helps with chain vaping.
it adds similar benefit to the truman wick method mentioned in this thread, but doesnt cover the top of the coil restricting any airflow, and greatly benefits wicking. havent had an issue yet.
i recommend tryin it, its really simple
Glad you got a setup running well. Some of my first builds I was doing were similar to your method. I did try a couple small tufts of cotton near the coil to aid feeding. It seemed to work well.
I did just wrap a fresh coil in my 91%.
The one in my pics had been in it for quite a while at the time the pictures were taken. So at this point, I wanna say that coil was in use for almost a month.
I just did 11 wraps of 28ga around a 1.7mm post, it comes out to around 1.35ohms.
I was aiming to go a little higher than usual because I've been testing a diy bakery juice that is pretty heavy on cinnamon danish.
The last time I vaped that juice was on a .7ohm coil. A little hot for the cin danish flavor, and it blew out my taste buds. After about a week of revision testing I couldn't taste anything. Had serious vapers tongue.
I keep wanting to try new coils and wick methods, such as trumans wick. But the setup I'm using is so bullet proof and simple, I can't bring myself to change anything. Creature of habit I guess.
I may take one of my kfl clones and modify the juice channels to work sort of like the Squape atty does.
If you're not familiar with it, the wick lays in the juice channels, completely.
It would be pretty easy to do, and if I destroy it, I'd be out like 20 bux.
Worth it in the name of science!
