OK, here's my intial impressions (more to come as I've only had it for 2 days):
First, thanks for letting me test this!
OK, upon opening the package I thought, man it's just some bubblewrap wrapped around bubblewrap. It was seriously that lite!
Once I realized there was actually something in there I got it out and took a look. Intial thought was that it looks a lot like a largish manual battery with chrome ends. Mine came with the o-ring preinstalled.
I did immediately notice a strong paint smell upon opening the package. So strong in fact my wife walked into my office (about 10' from where I was sitting opening the package) and she said "have you been spray painting in the house again!?!" I can only assume that the paint was barely dry when mine got wrapped up as the smell mostly went away after a couple hours. Though as I type this, I can still smell fresh paint if I put it right under my nose. Weird huh?
OK, next step - Fire this baby up!!! I got out some batteries. I have a couple protected 10440's and went to put one in. It doesn't fit!!! OK Mike, breath.... it'll be OK.... we'll figure this out! After some fiddling I found that both my 10440's
will fit but it's such a tight fit I doubt I'd be able to get one of them out. For whatever reason (I think it's the protection circuitry that adds thickness AND length and the workmanship on the batts isn't terribly consistent!).
I carefully spun the smaller battery around and around while mostly inserted. Keep your minds outta the gutter people!

I don't know if the tube actually got reshaped (i.e. maybe it was slightly crushed out-of-round during shipping?) but the battery did start to fit a little better. It fit good enough for me to feel ok putting it all the way in! Push it in, go to screw on end cap - DUH! it doesn't fit!!!!
I then proceeded to try flipping the battery around to see if that'd help, soon as I started to get the cap threads close to meeting it started to get HOT!?!? This scared my girlie pants enough that I quickly removed the battery and drank a beer! I then got curious and decided I better verify the heat thing before posting as maybe I did something wrong. Reinserted it and yep, soon as the endcap touches the body the batt gets HOT! (BTW, the temp problem only happens when the + side is facing the endcap)
So then I flipped it back around and, determined to get this thing working, I got the endcap on. It required a good bit of force as the internal spring had to be really compressed just to get the endcap to thread. I think my batts are a mm longer than this was designed for! I did get the endcap on and to stay (though not fully threaded - there's room there for 2 o-rings!)
OK, batt in - let's rock-n-roll! Atty on, drip, and cart push button, vap.... NOTHING! No vapor, no sound, nothing! I tried holding the button down for 20 seconds to see if the atty would even heat up, nope! Relooking at my batts I realized that the cover over the batts body wraps around the bottom and while not very thick was just thick enough to prevent the endcap from contacting it. This wouldn't be an issue with + side down but I'd already run into problems with that and didn't feel like going that route. I ended up taking a paperclip, cutting a piece off and bending it into a U shape, insert it upside down into the endcaps hole and waalaa! WE HAVE VAPOR!!!
Whew, more work up to this point than there
should be for a commercial mod, but at least I can now use/test it!
Only been using it for ~30 hours so all add more comments as time goes on. First impressions are quite nice. Much better than my stock 901's or my disposable 510's. More vapor and slightly more throat hit. Flavor is the same. Battery life is gonna be better than stock as these batts are longer lasting. Due to recent events with battery problems I won't be running my batts totally dead (even though they're protected, I'm scuured!) The button has pros/cons. The button itself is awesome! Great size, feel and sound/feedback. However, it's not recessed or protected in any way. it requires enough push pressure that this isn't a problem when sitting on my desk, but I wouldn't trust it on my pocket! IMHO the button location also is a little lower than ideal. Not annoyingly low, just enough to make me wish it was slightly higher. Also it seems there's a lot of tube between the button and atty connector. Makes me monder/wish there was 1/4" taken out of there! I don't know what the inside looks like, maybe that space NEEDS to be there, but if not, I vote for removing it!
Other impressions:
Tube body is lite weight and
thin! I don't know how sturdy it is but it sure doesn't appear like it would be since it's so
thin! I like the size but would love reassurance that it's not going to deform with normal usage. Time will tell....
Connector (mine's a 901) is awesome. Very nice chrome finish and no sharp corners/edges. With atty attached it all feels solid and not overly flemsy.
Endcap looks amazing. The knurling is very nice! The bottom (whether intended or not) is NOT flat. It comes to a very slight peak at the center. This prevents the unit from being stood up on end (which might be a good thing?).
So that's my first 2 days with the laser!
