I'm not hearing this going too terribly well. From what I've heard, there is a slightly unprofessional and nearly confrontational tone from 'our side' that's shutting me down as a listener. Maybe I just need to take a quick vape break and come back to this.

edit: actually, the new speaker seems to be doing very well.

Did I just hear the implication that if you switch to an NRT - not specified FDA-approved or not - you're trading up to pancreatic cancer? Keller points out that her source was a cherry-picked survey, where another by the same researcher showed the opposite, and nothing was conclusive on that. More misinformation and scare tactics (considering the survival rates from pancreatic cancer are abysmal) from the FDA.

Yep. Whoever that last lady (edit: Elaine Keller) was came off really badly. The guy before her was fantastic though- just facts, stayed calm and didn't get caught in a "I got that fact off the internet" gaffe.

We've played nice and given them the benefit of the doubt for 3 years of testifying to the FDA, Reaperman. That time has past - we have switched tactics and are calling a spade a spade now. They have to stop ignoring us and the fact that these facts are recorded is very important. Not just the FDA will see or hear these testimonies.

I have to agree. Elaine Keller's tone and disorganized presentation was a bit disappointing. This was a huge opportunity for CASAA and I really don't think that their message was delivered clearly at all.

No, the pancreatic cancer was supposedly linked to smoke-free tobacco products such as snus, but as Elaine explained, the "conclusion" of increased risk was based on just two small studies and those studies countered each other. However, they still chose to tell the public that snus conclusively raises the risk of pancreatic cancer.

I agree that she got caught off guard with that one question, but of all the facts she gave about THR, smoking and NRT, the one of just two questions the panel asks is about the income level of smokers?? How relevant is that to the overall idea of allowing for long-term use of NRT for THR really??

Didn't so much seem disorganized to me considering the cramped time constraints. It would be difficult for me to cover that much info in 8 minutes. Nobody is getting too much across in that little time. It seemed more impressive than some thus far.

Fair enough. Perhaps limit the message to a few important points. The overall philosophy to me was lost.

JParadise, you will understand why it was important to get as much info in as possible once the ANTZ start speaking. We know what kinds of things they will be saying (based on what they said in the past) and a lot of what she said is to pre-counter those lies. Unfortunately, all the pro-THR people got clumped at the beginning, which leaves the counter arguments open for the ANTZ and we don't get a chance to come back and counter them.
