Losing plenty of money vaping

Its just like with anything eles, You can get the basics or you can splurge. Its up to you. But if someone decides that one of the reasons to vape is to save money then they have to not go overboard. I am in the middle, I was to save money but i want to enjoy it!

So I am going get what I want without going over budget of what I would have spent smoking (I was a lite smoker too.)
Excluding the initial charge of the setup, But I will break even on that in 88 days according to my counter thing ha.

I've spent several thousands of dollars on vaping mods and juice and accessories since i started 3 years ago, and now i stick with 3 PV's, Boge cartos, and make my own juice. Costs me about 2 bux to make a 30ml of my favorite peach stuff.

These numbers aren't mine - I bought lots of mods when I started - but they should be fairly representative of the average smoker/vaper at a PAD v.s. 2.5ml of liquid per day. I'll also assume $0.50 per ml which is an average price for liquid. I'll figure a pack of Camel/Marlboro/etc at $5 to average out the variance in price across the US.

$30 - Riva 510 Lite Bundle
$37.50 - 75ml of liquid
$10 - Shipping (probably a bit high unless ordering from multiple vendors)

Total for one month of smoking - $150
Total for one month of vaping - $67.50

That's breaking even in 13.5 days.

I think it's part of the learning curve, shoot I paid 200$ for my GreenSmoke starter kit, now you can get a Provari for less than that! frikkin technologie, like with computers, but that's for another thread...

I spent maybe 200 in the beginning to get a feel for what I liked, did not like, etc... definitely a learning curve. But funds have always been tight, so I kept purchases to a minimum.
I did spend another $200+ on a mod a few months later, and around 100 on DIY supplies... but now my costs average around $5-10/month. I mix my own juice, and order atomizers in bulk from china. I'm definitely feeling the savings now

I haven't gone over my "analog total of the month" and I've purchased a very expensive first-time-vaping kit for over a hundred. The closest I've gotten was two months ago, where I hit 200, and that even worried me.

The reason why I saved money (after I found ECF) is because I always bought samples, and only a few at a time. I drip flavors and if I really love them, only then will I fill a carto.

I've also been able to make cartos last a while without any funky taste. The longest-living carto I ever had lasted 6 months and it was amazing until it randomly tasted burnt and I chucked it.

In total for the year and 2 months I've been vaping... I think at MOST I've spent around $500-600 dollars. I'm not sure what to tell you except just buy small samples-if it's a new vendor, don't buy every flavor you see since you might not like their "method" of mixing- and don't fill up cartos unless you know it's worth it.

I just got into this again.

Ive been down the mod road and the trying all the juice I can road.

This time around, Im perfectly content with my eGo and my cartos.

I figure a 5 pack of cartos a month and maybe 30-60ml of juice a month and im good.

Thats about 40 bucks/month.

Beats the hell outta almost 200 a month to smoke the death sticks.

might as well throw my dime in.... i tend to look at the macroeconomics of this venture as opposed to the microeconomics. i.e. long term you will save money, and more importantly your health. there's lots of deals out there for juice and equipment/supplies. you do waste money initially finding the equipment/juice that suits your tastes/preferences/budget, that's probably unavoidable unless you have a mentor that can help you out.

i happen to be happy with my 2 ego 1100mah batteris (just bought 2 more of them for $8 each from tomsvapor.com) and cheap 1.5ohm dual coil XL cartomizers. you can get a 5 pack of the things at healthcabin.net right now for $5.20 (+s/h), i bought 6 packs, plus 38 i got for $40shipped from a member here, plus 15 others i got earlier for about $6 a pack at a different site.

as for juice, i have a hard time justifying more than $15/30ml. especially now that (also now for the holidays) healthcabin.net will sell you 110ml for less than $14 (+s/h), not to mention 10ml of flavoring for $0.70, so you can boost the flavor if you want.

locally though, i happen to think mtnvapor.com has the best all around deal; 30ml of juice, a free dual coil cartomiser, free shipping, $12 total.

the big problem is that there are a lot of shops out there, some are more greedy than others, thinking their super elite or something. hard to know which is which unless you go from site to site and compare apples to apples. now that i know what my 4 or 5 favorite flavors are, i'll probably switch to DIY and save even more.

either way, good luck with whatever you decide. shop around for supplies, and forget the mods for a bit.

Last time I saw this thread I got motivated to create a spreadsheet of Vaping expenses:

PV Kits: 210.54
Juice: 291.30
Parts: 24.79
Shipping: 49.17
TOTAL: 575.80

That is since I started at the end of October.
I bought six PV starter kits and use Riva 510 650mAh and Riva 510 1100mAh, I bought a couple of each since I didn't know how long the parts would last or what I needed, I'm good for several more months at least and by then will know enough to buy only the parts I need.
I do want to get a Reo mod and / or Provari sometime next year, but don't have to have it, that is just gearlust.
Juice I didn't know how much I needed but did NOT want to run out. I wasted lots of money on flavors I don't want (see my classified ad to trade D'Doff Tobacco) but I have enough liquid to last probably five months at least? (I still don't know how much I use a day). That includes a good supply of DIY to mod the liquids I don't like so much or are too strong.
I don't know why Frankster's shipping costs are so high, he must order each item mailed separately?

I could have spent less on juice for sure. I really don't need to buy anything else for at least 3 months, probably 6 months. So at most average $115 per month. I was spending about $125 a month for analogs, so not bad. If I can resist buying stuff I don't need I can easily spend a whole lot less, and thanks to Frankster for getting me to lay it all out, I can see where I can save in the future.

And that is not factoring in the intangibles, for example I seriously hope to avoid big bills for smoking related medical issues.

Frankster would really croak if he spent what I have spent in the last ten years on expensive quit-smoking stuff that didn't work for me at all, like Allen Carr, therapy, Chantix, Wellbutrin, patches, lozenges, hypnosis, etc etc.

Dang, now I feel worse, getting an SSGGTS as my very first mod after using v2 cigs and cartridges for my first month.. I guess I learned quickly and won't be getting any other mods for a while, and focus on the juice that I'll use as my daily vaping.. Any suggestion for a good ry4?

Denise, glad to see I am not the only one that has spent a lot! I want a Provari, too.

Six2arms - Good RY4; I have tried a bunch. Some that don't tast that great benefit from a few drops of menthol, then they taste fine.

1. Genuine Dekang RY4 (be careful where you get it; some is fake) from Hoosier, MadVapes, and Health Cabin
2. Ikenvape RY4
3. Mom & Pop RY4

I also LOVE Dekang Tab, which is similar to RY4.
Just tried Bounty Hunter tonight. Someone from this forum was gracious enough to send me a sample. Delicious. I taste caramel, coconut, and vanilla.

My other favorites are Dekang NuPort, Dekang Menthol, Backwoods Brew Menthol, and Backwoods Brew Toffee.

For fruits, I LOVE MadVapes Cantaloupe and Mad Vapes Honeydew.

That's must have been a while ago cause I don't see these $8.00 Ego you speak of at that site. I don't see no sales of them anywhere. Point me to the link? Those are good prices for ego's 1100mah batties

Those 1100 mAh batteries really do it for me too. The cartridges were loose in the slightly larger atomizer that came with, so I bought some $2 drip tips for it and it was goodbye analogs!

Now I wonder what is RY4, I see it mentioned everywhere. And is my Riva UNC with 1100mAh the same as an Ego?

Riva was the original clone (knockoff) of the eGo, a fat battery 510. Original Rivas, until late last year, were regulated output, 3.3V or so, like eGo (though not using the eGo PWM method to get that output voltage). More recent Rivas have gone to a different approach, so that they start off at higher voltage (3.7v, I believe), though taper down over time.

Overall, I'd still think of a Riva as pretty much equivalent to an eGo, though fans of one or the other might disagree.

RY4 is a pretty popular tobacco variant. Multiple places make their own version of RY4.

my girfried and I have been vaping for 3 months now and we've spent about $800 total on vaping supplies, juices and shipping. thats equal (almost EXACTLY) to the amount we would have spent on ciggs. we each smoked about 4 packs of Marlboros a week each.

now that we dont need to buy any more batteries or chargers, its just juice and cartos, and that only costs us about 80/month total. so there are savings to be had in the long run, but i feel like i will always continue to experiment around with different cartos, new juce flavors and such, so the savings will be eaten up. but im not worried about that. i didnt switch to ecigs to save money. i did it to save health, which is worth a lot more than money is.
