Made this setup last night. Four wraps of Kanthal 32, 1.5Ω, cotton roll wick. This one's a beast. Blows away everything I've done before. I realize now that some of my earlier attempts with more coils were shorting out either because some of the coils were touching each other, or they were touching the posts. One thing I did pick up from Scott's video about setting up the Phoenix, once you have one leg through the post hole instead of trying to feed the other leg through, simply wrap it around the screw, then tighten it down. Its a helluva lot easier and you don't have to kink the last leg to insert it through the hole.

This one's so nice I'm afraid to mess with it, but I am very curious to try out that vertical cotton wick...

Thanks for posting pictures and the detailed explanation! I thought I might have made a good one earlier. It looked solid but I put it on the provari and it registed as "low" I've never even seen that come up before on the Provari. It was 4 34g coils so I thought the reading was weird. I have a plate full of little wicks that don't work. They look good! But I've always heard that looks don't matter :p

I've got to get one of those awesome multimeters from Randy.

As a matter of fact I think I'll head down to my wanna be lab and try some more coils. I can't find any Kanthal wire still.

Cant find kanthal ? Its available a lot on ebay and sometimes even amazon also a member of ecf started a website selling wick and wire www.silicawicks.com

Alternative you can use nichrome wich i find works better specially on mechanical mods that are not regulated because nichrome heats up faster and theres really no difference in taste.

Darn. I went and tested the same set up I made earlier. The Provari read 2.5ohms. So I put some VG on it....burned it....VG...burned it....VG....burned it. Read the ohms and it measured 2.9/3ohms. I turned the voltage all the way up to 5 but still couldn't get a good vape. I was excited because it was a really tight draw so I thought I got it right. Nope. I'll keep trying.

Thanks! The nichrome is probably good and it's me that's the problem  I still would be interested in trying Kanthal.

Resistance heating wire Kanthal A-1 33 awg 100 ft, | eBay

Kanthal A resistance heating wire - 34 AWG - 0.16 mm / 0.006" diameter | eBay

Also, I have a 1/8th lb. roll of 34ga Nichrome that is sitting in my goodie box not being used if you need it.
I'm flying through the Nichrome I got off ebay. That would be great if you have extra!

Hildicat and Darrel, thank you - I tried a 1.6ohm wrap with a vertical(ish) cotton wick, wrapping the top leg around the screw instead of trying to thread it through the post, and it made a WORLD of difference. Vaping like a freight train now, I'm getting the best hits off the Chalice yet. Breakthrough moment for me, and it's thanks to you guys. Vape on!

Mine is working very well on my VV Woodvile. Have it at about 5.2v with a
2.8 coil. Almost all the way up tastes slightly burnt at 5.5. I almost didn't cut my loop. Now I guess I won't next time

Time to try another coil Dan....I added two pieces of 3mm wick under the coil.

It's so weird...the resistance changes from 1.6 to 4.9 every time I fire up the Chalice. I've tested it on my Provari AND my multimeter and it's the same result. I don't even move the set up at all. I just fire up the Chalice after I've put some juice or VG on it.

Are you using Nichrome or Kanthal????

And now I think it shorted because it won't fire up at all. I'm really dumb! I can't believe I can't figure this out.

I guess the chalice have the same post like the mark infinity, wrap the wire in your wick 4 times or 5 so each strand of wire go the opposite way, now you can either screw the wirs on the post or wrap the wire 1 time and screw and it will be fine both way aslong you have the wire tight in the post and the distace between the wick is not long.

Theres no problem to re-use wicks and wires.
