I took your idea on the loop switched back to Kanthal and wrapped about 10 coils. 3.0 ohms. Next time I will shoot a little lower. But this can't flood either with it being off the floor. I will keep this one the rest of the day and see how it goes.

Keekers, I wish I could help you more....Unless you send it to me to set up....I'll gladly do it. I would do a video but I'm not very photogenic.

On another note....I relocated the air hole in the top cap. Enlarged it slightly and this thing is blowing CLOUDS now.

Couldn't you just put an oring on the top so that it moves the air hole to a different place or move the coil around instead? My last build is tasting funny and burnt even though there is plenty of juice, so I guess I strangled the coil with the 10 coils.lol. I am going back to the bottom coil and then putting some wicks underneath it.

Well I'm dead in the water now. I was changing coils and my top cap to my Chalice was on the table. My wife came along and cleaned up a little.....GONE! I suspect it's in the garbage but I can't find it. I'm screwed now. I live in a condo and all the garbage goes in a huge container. I PM'd Bugs at Vapor Wall, I hope I can get another top cap....:(

Holy crap dude. I was relying on your builds to make mine awesome. That is total crap that you lost your top.

I guess I am going to go get some cheesecloth tomorrow...

Got a message from Bug's....he gonna try and get a top cap to sell to me....There's still hope.

I'm the poster boy for 'you can do this', bjannr and keeks. Just be persistent and you'll hit that AHA! moment - hildicat's tutorial can help a lot with that - and in no time you'll be vaping like a sir. Today at work I'm vaping on a 1.0ohm coil of my own creation with no backup gear - and you'll have that level of confidence in your wraps as well. Just keep at it, it'll click!

I have a couple questions in anticipation of my Chalice for those who have some experience with RBAs unlike myself.

First, why the tendency for a LR coil, is it just to get a decent amount of watts out of a 3.7v device? It's been my guess that more coils = more contact with juice to vaporize so with a variable voltage mod I'm leaning towards like a 2.5-3.0ohm coil target.

And this leads into my second question: Why is it bad to have coils touching each other? In my limited electrical understanding I don't think it would short or effect the resistance and from what I've seen in the the best atties I've tried (cisco 306, HH357, IKV io6) it seems to be common practice to have a lot of wraps right up against each other.

LR Coils are just easier and get more watts from a 3.7v device.

The reason they make sure the coils are spaced is because electrons take the path of least resistance. With spaces between the coils, the electrons have to flow the whole length of the wire. If they are touching, then the electrons will skip a section of the coil, lowering the resistance. Even in those high quality disposable atomizers the coils are spaced. It's just that they are so close it's hard to tell. We space wider because we are doing it by hand.

I did a braided wire with 32a1 Kanthal today. Running at 3.5v on my VV grand. It's about 1.2ohms. That's what happens when wires touch big time! This is a huge coil with an SS center with 3mm Ody wick inside. It's like a forced dual coil. Wondering how many wraps it would take to get to 1.8 or 2.0. I have about 6 now. Guessing 8, just have to put them closer together.
