Often if you overtighten a tank the contact is broken where the resistance then goes from 0.5ohn to 0.0ohm! Something still has to have pulled that much current into and likely sounding too much like through the tank in order see that much current?

OR/And, takes note on this, the DIY mix had a bad hair day! This has happened on any number of tanks where the ejuice is at fault. Someone somehow managed to push too much power through using the wrong battery perhaps? Or it was simply staged for bad publicity in behest of Big $$$! The later being more likely to be a con job with that intent to push out to the misinformation of the public!

Never rule anything out completely when some are looking for just the right type of BS propaganda to push out to the masses! You are forgetting one thing here. It's referred to as the vaping Information War of Real Science versus Total....! Formal de bull, ecigs exploding, ecigs containing more toxins, antifreeze found in ecigs, etc. BS lines all seen in the last few years!

And you won't either! That hasn't even been made public from what I gather but was something "Someone" slipped out word on being a proposal for one local community on one of the social networks.

I still have to relocate and review the pdf file attached to one discussion while the theme of banning veggies with nic doesn't take much review to see how that will likely flop anyway! You going to try and tell some kid they can't have pizza because of tomatoes and green peppers two commonly used veggies no less or that potato side is not allowed any longer? Even the parents would be raising fuss!

You are misunderstanding a lot of what you are ranting about.

Schools can "ban vegetables", and you don't "push power through a battery".

The anti e-cig propaganda doesn't cause regulations.
It's only there to brainwash the masses into overlooking the real reasons for regs:
Control of a multi billion dollar industry, and the continuation of payouts from tobacco settlements.

I believe that the main idea is to reduce additional connection points (e.g, removing the positive pin in a top cap). Using a hybrid adapter instead of a top cap also reduces the height of the mod.

A hybrid cap reduces mod length by at least another 1/2", stealth mods like the SMPL is the main reason why they are popular along with the lower voltage drop excuse. Having the higher capacity 18650 form factor hidden in the palm of your hands instead of the lower capacity 18350 cell on a LPG mod is the main goal !

It's not a hybrid.
It's a direct to battery connection.
It only " looks like a hybrid" when assembled.

That's good to know, but is slightly shortening a mech mod worth the risk of catastrophic battery failure? I don't think so.

Yes, I know that educated users can use them safely, but having "hybrid top caps" thrown into cheap Chinese kits that any random ignoramus can order online is a problem, (especially when the most popular/inexpensive toppers are not safe to use with them), if only because it makes the ANTZ "job" much easier.

The Chinese cloned mechs might be low cost but they are just as well built as the authentics, sometimes better.

The problem is with the adult users that want to go for zero to "wide open throttle" but are to lazy to take the time to learn.
Reality bites them in the .....

Remember, these are grown adults who vote and pay taxes, and make a willful decision to buy and use gear they don't understand.

Guess there always a mix up of the terms when too many cooks spoil the soup.
Part of the vaping community associates the absence of a top cap as a hybrid.
This original mod company even calls it a "hybrid adapter" like much of the SMPL mods

I'm not necessarily saying that they shouldn't be available, just that the ignorant use of these can actually cause the "exploding e-cigarette" scenarios that feed the anti-vape hype train, as it did in this case. When the "victim" is a minor, that lends more credence to the ANTZ propaganda, and that affects all of us, not just those who are ceaselessly chasing the biggest clouds out of the smallest, simplest, (and yes, most dangerous), mods possible.

This is a problem. I'm unsure of the solution.

In fact the clones of the SMPL mod is actually safer than the authentic with a machined concave surface that won't let flat top batteries short when the atty is off !
In fact most of the clone companies are coming out with their own authentic, just change the looks a little and it becomes an authentics at clone prices !

That doesn't make them right, or knowledgeable.

Hybrids have been around a lot longer than direct to battery mods.

The first adapters were made for a Nemesis mod years ago and were promoted to give a "sleek hybrid look"
Wisemec wasn't even a company back then.

Know your gear.

Using incorrect terminology when discussing safe vaping is dangerous, and can get someone hurt.

Education is the only solution.

You cannot save people from themselves. It's a fools errand to try.

Again, these aren't kids. These are adults who go out of their way to buy gear, that uses a high discharge battery to short a kanthal coil so it heats a wick and vaporizes nicotine to get their fix.

You're right, but unfortunately that's not the way things work these days. The Nanny State will try, and try, and try, until we've got nothing decent left.

I'm not sure which adult you're referring to, in this case. Did the kid's dad buy the mod and give it to him?

The problem there is that the kid as well as parents like in a different country with different laws. Not everything will be treated in the exact same manner while we tend see most in the Western world see "teen" as being under age other places around the globe see manhood labeling applied much sooner.

As far as kids getting their hands the report indicated it was something he bought not a mod one of his parents went out and bought that he had simply gotten his hands on.

Greer said the model of electronic cigarette his son purchased on his own is as large as a cigar and is popular because of the amount of vapour it produces.

That suggests parental approval which allowed for the teen to simply go out and buy what he wanted on his own as well as not having minimum age requirement being imposed.

I remember threads like this on Grenade forums when grenades first came out. It seems like every other week there would be posts with titles like "Man Blows Pee Pee Off After Grenade Explodes in Pants" and "Teen Loses Arm After Juggling Grenades" or "Drunken Hot Potato Game Ends Badly in Explosion!" or "Richard Gere Switches to Gerbils After Grenade Accident" The press was always blaming the grenades and their manufacturers on the front page but in every case, there would be a retraction two months later on page 75 stating the cause was in fact user error. Eventually, the stories faded out of the limelight and into the past and the grenade has gone on to become a very effective war time tool. This will also happen with exploding vape stories.

Another one a few years back was someone charging an ecig battery and the chair caught fire. You knew right off it was simply intended to be an attention getter as another form of discouragement. But then I just another report where an IPhone blew up in someone pants pocket as he was attending a funeral. Gee that must have gotten the "ECig Blamers Dept." ticked off that something else with a battery went "Boom"!

It's not the "nanny state".
That's an illusion.
It's the " bought and paid" for state.

Your actions are irrelevant beyond use as propaganda.
If we never saw a single ecig battery "accident" the regulations would be the same.
Blame the crooked politicians that sold out health for payoffs.

You're not wrong, but propaganda is a powerful tool. It's much easier to pass new draconian regulations if they're ignorantly supported by a significant percentage of the masses .

mech mods needs to be sold to people who understands the risk of using it, given a choice to use regulated instead, even as far as scaring them into using a regulated instead of a mech, but these retailers and online shops selling them to new people who thinks all they gota do is put batteries in and press a button, u may have 990 people who knows how to use it correctly and 10 people blows up in their face, guess what they will use these 10 examples to regulate the unregulated devices and the regulated devices, worst case scenario it will be harsh laws coming out of this

None of that affects regulations.
That's the point.
Regulations would happen regardless because they are about controlling profits, not safety.

As far as mechs go, people need to recognize their own limitations and be responsible for their adult choices.

Mishaps can happen at 15w as well as 50w when something isn't right to start with! The main problem with mechs is simply the lack of things like short circuit protection and overheat protections that will simply disable a mod. If a battery has a defect or is put in the wrong way... oops! You have a bad day!

Yet I have had a couple of regulated type batteries and mods act up as well. Mostly those simply went DOA while one was acting weird before that came about losing the ability to stay at the wattage or voltage set but suddenly drop off. Then one day they simply do nothing when the fire buttons are pressed.

Lately with different tanks in use on some of the newer mods out another thing noticed is tanks getting a bit warmer. A 100-120w model tank gets warmer at 30w then an Atlantis at 25-30w over that 5w difference? The tank design requiring the air intake be wide open would explain how the design is throwing off heat through the shell(base, top). Have yet to see any tank pop due to the ejuice it was filled with. I suspect wimpy tank designs were the major part of that problem people had been running into.
