I bought my Ego 5 weeks ago. Love the unit functionally. No problems there. And it looked great when I got it. "Titanium" color.
The trouble is that after
vaping for 5 weeks, the cone and BOTH bats had significant splotchy areas where the paint had pealed off and the unit looked horrible. It looked so bad that I had to use my fingernails to remove all the remaining paint. I now have a stainless steal color and it looks fine. Any replacement bats I
buy will be stainless steel because I understand that "color" has no finish.
However, I'd like to point out that I have never dropped the unit on the ground. The paint appears to be pealing due to oil on my skin transferring to the coated metal surface. And occasionally a little
e-liquid, which seems to really accelerate the process of de-bonding the paint.
It strikes me that this problem is inevitable with these units. It may happen sooner or later for a given individual, but it's going to happen because no one can avoid touching the cone and bats. It's too bad because the unit looks nice on delivery, and I think that people should be able to choose a preferred color and have it continue to look that way for the functional life of the unit.
I don't know if the manufacturer could use a better bonding paint or if this problem can't be avoided because metal surfaces just make it inevitable regardless of the paint used. In any event, unless or until the problem is addressed, I would tend to recommend that people just get the stainless steel (i.e. the unfinished) version because that's how it's going to end up sooner or later and it looks pretty awful while in transition.
