My 'standard' has been 10 wraps of 28g Kanthal, 1/16th ID at about 1.5Ω at roughly 4.5V on the VVG's. I'm, quite satisfied with that setup, but lately I've been wanting to dust off my old trusty Grand. Just ordered some new AW IMR's 1600mAh and ordered a repair kit for the Grand (its old and abused and I've measured the v-drop at over 1Ω with a .5Ω coil). Hoping the new parts and batts will help achieve a more respectable performance. As it is now, I'm getting a pretty nice vape on the Grand with two strands of 28g K (in-line dual coil), I think 6 wraps giving me about .5Ω. Problem is that my batts are OLD and I only get about three hours of intermittent use before they drop below 3.8 volts.

So, with the the addition of the new batts and innards I though I would try some new resistance wire as well. Just ordered some 26g nichrome and a small sample of Rene. Judging from the feedback here, I think I'm on the right track. I still have plenty of 28g and 30g Kanthal. Is there any other R-wire you guys would suggest trying out for the Grand?

Hey, man! Sounds like you've got all the pertinent wires. (27 is great; but, as you have 28 & 26 . . . . eh). Here's this, tho, 26 Nichrome is my favorite; but some folks seem to be having trouble with what might amount to a bad batch. Nothing dangerous, just coils popping and fusing on dry glowing the stuff. If you're paranoid, make sure your spring is in good working order for initial firing. (?) And don't lose your composure . . . .. It's not you .. . it's the wire . .. ;)

Was thinking about some thicker kanthal as well, but jacobs only has the nichrome and rene. guess I could order some different kanthal from temco, but I think I will keep my variables at a minimum for now and circle back around if I end up hating the nichrome.

He could be stuck eating MRE's twice a day. Lol Although some are pretty good.....

You know... I actually don't mind the MRE's. i just don't understand the whole cake thing!

It rained something fierce last night... I woke up a cold, wet monkey!

But it's all good.

The storm trooper got a new engine under the hood and met Ma Deuce!

Have to ask. Is there a reason for bending the coil legs up and not just cutting them flush with the hole? Been wondering about that. Answer is probably in this thread, but that could be a long search. Thx.

I originally started doing it in a sheepish fashion, but found that it helps when using thicker wire because the post screws sometimes like to rattle loose. This way they have no way to escape...

But again, i started doing it simply because i liked how it looked in pictures... THEN i learned of its practicality

What's your guys favorite type of wire for these mirco's? As most already know, I am a vape and flavor hoar. Currently vaping a dual coil 28g mirco (1/16th bit), 11 wraps each @.6ohms (on my RM2). I like it, but must say there is quite a lag from when I hit the fire button till when the coils get cracka lackin'.

I am intrigued by the 26gn nic, and am thinking about buying 50 or so ft. I am low on 27g and was probably gonna re stock up on some of that. I RARELY wrap any type of coil with anything smaller than 28, I am even getting further away from 28 as time passes. I am liking the 'more wrap' with thicker wire technique.

I have never tried anything thicker than 27, but I am completely open to anything. For my fellow vape hoars, what is your favorite type of wire/wick (been using cotton exclusively for mico's) and how many wraps @ what resistance?

Thank you much!

edit: that's one bad azz gun there, Xob!

Yeah, I figured out the wire from another of your posts (not to be confused with bamboo post). The shell casing (M2), figured that out too. I just didn't know if a bit of that casing squirreled its way into your goosebox. I guess no. When you get home, we'll pamper you with some proper brass shim.
